I'm just curious because even though that guy is no longer her teacher, couldn't he get into trouble if she's under 18?

If he's found out by the school or by Laurie's parents probably. Teachers sleeping with students didn't become a big deal until the 1990s. I don't think the teacher is that much older than her, but I'm assuming Laurie is still a minor.

Actually back when my mom was in high school in the 70s, she had a friend who had a relationship with a teacher who had just graduated college. Even though she was only 17, her parents liked the guy so they transferred her to another school district so they could keep dating. They got married after her senior year and my mom says they are still married.

I don't think she could be 18 yet. It MUST have been different back then.

I'd say she's 16 or 17. I wonder if her parents will ever find out about their relationship - that would be interesting.
