Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the episodes? I am not talking about the packs... I want the real episodes.....

Also, I seem to remember a case about a guy who had a fight with his girlfriend and he and his young teenage son took off and were never seen again. Can anyone tell me anything about that? What about the lady that was being stalked and the police thought she was doing it to herself? Or those people that had all kinds of attacks upon their house and stuff, but the police had no leads... and then the family staked out the house one night to catch whoever was leaving the notes and somehow the person managed to leave it anyways even though the family was staking out the house? Ring a bell? The last case I will mention is a child abuse case.... I remember the abuser was hispanic or mexican perhaps... and he had 2 daughters.... and they had to be home at a specific time each day or he beat the hell out of them... there was a scene when they told him their teacher made them stay after and he didnt care, kept yelling at them and beat them....

If anyone can help with this, I would really appreciate it!

I love your posts pinkturtle, kind of like a pop quiz to see if we can remember all these segments. Here goes:

I believe the first case is Chance and Dub Waukerhagen. No doubt in my mind that he killed his girlfriend but not sure if any harm came to the little boy. They're still missing:

Second case is Cindy James. I personally think she was murdered. Her sister posts on here and has written a book about the case but unsure of when its coming out.

Third case is Bill and Dorothy Wacker. We haven't been able to find out anymore about their case but did learn that Bill passed away in 1999.

Last case is Art Silva. He was apprehended soon after UM aired the story thankfully.

Well I would have kept our secret but you kept sending me VHS tapes of UFO encounters. But they were obviously a 1972 Pinto in your back yard with its brights on with Christmas lights attached to the bumper. There seemed to be a family dog of some kind wearing a Minnesota Vikings Horned Hat, and the person behind the camera kept whispering something about "Omar". Didn't really understand how that was supposed to fit in. Anyway, I really got creeped out by it...so...what was i supposed to do?

I think one of the biggest problems with releasing Unsolved Mysteries starting from the beginning in season boxsets is due to the fact that so many cases are repeated throughout the history of the show. I don't really need to see may of them over and over again. Plus it can get confusing because many of cases had additional information added at later re-airings, or were solved later on. It can sort of break your continuity of the case if you have to wait 5 seasons later to find out what happened in that case.

I think another problem is that UM is such an eclectic show. For example, a single episode could contain a UFO story, a murder story, a missing persons case and a lost love story. Not all of this is going to appeal to everyone. I usually skip the "lost love" and "Unexplained" stories myself.

I think First Look did the best they could in categorizing UM segments into topical DVD collections. That way they could maximize profits by selling groupings of segments that would appeal to each individual taste. Not to mention some of the sets could probably do okay on their own. People who are interested in UFOs or Ghosts in general might pick up those sets based on the content alone and the fact that these are UM segments may be irrelevant.

The sad fact is that season sets probably wouldn't appeal to the masses. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE it if UM was released this way. I would like to see the entire episodes as they aired without edits, "lost" segments etc., as I'm sure many people here would. But there aren't enough of "us" out there for it to be economical, in any way, for a company to produce seasons sets of UM.

The Bizarre Murders set is the only one I own, and precisely for the same reasons you mentioned. Lost Loves stories are certainly not my favorite, but they're far better than a segment on "gelatinous goo" or fertility statues. I'd rather see twenty Lost Loves than that segment about the tiny UFO that flew into that woman's bedroom and "healed her" ever again.

I see what you're saying and I understand and agree that there is a lot of total garbage on DVD and you really do have to question what the manufacturers are thinking some times.

However, I think the issue of a lack season sets of UM on DVD is multifaceted. Not only do they have to contend with the possibility of the season sets not selling well, but there are other problems too that your average run of the mill sitcom doesn't have.

For one, there is the amount of repeats and the issue of updates that joshypiano mentioned. Also, there are some stories that were kept off Lifetime due to legal issues and I can't see these stories being revived for DVD.

There is also the very non-episodic nature of the show. And yes, I know UM hammered into our heads each and every week that "this is not a news broadcast" - but in some ways, it did resemble one with a lot of the mysteries and topics being issues that were pertinent at the time, but now not so much.

It's kind of like asking why there are no season sets of "Dateline" or "60 Minutes", or even "America's Most Wanted" for that matter.

I admit, having episodes would be nice, but I like CD's UM DVDs much better. 6 hrs of segments hosted by the man himself w/o the filler crap segments, which was much more prevalent in the later years.

I couldn't agree more. I can't even get anything beyond season 2 of Diff'rent Strokes (fave sitcom) on DVD so this whole UM thing (episodes not available on dvd) is killing me. BTW, if someone does not want to watch a segment, that's why dvd's have a skip and fast forward function.

I can easily come up with another 25 cases - all still unsolved, btw - that would make an excellent 'sequel' to the first set, e.g. Rhonda Hinson, Morris Davis, Chad Maurer, Stanley Gryziec, Chaim Weiss, and Mike Emert. It just seemed like the commercial DVD releases were a 'rush job' and more planning and effort could have been put into it.

It seemed like the First Look "Bizarre Murder" set had a lot of stories from the later years and a lot of the more sensational stories that some of us have seen too many times to count. Exactly what I was afraid of indeed. And this 'updated' UM on Spike... wow, there are no words to describe my disappointment. I do not see it lasting long. I know they have a five-year contract but I cannot imagine five years of this. Just doesn't appeal to me whatsoever and that's a shame.
