Man Pays For Most Of Truck With Coins Ohio Man Says He Doesn't Trust Banks, Paper Money

Cincinnati -- An Ohio man who says he doesn't trust banks or paper money has paid part of the cost of a new truck with 16 cans full of coins.

Employees at a dealership in suburban Cincinnati said they were flabbergasted Tuesday when 70-year-old James Jones said he wanted to buy a new red Chevrolet Silverado and plunked down 16 coffee cans of coins.

Salespeople spent 90 minutes counting the collection of dimes, quarters and dollar coins, which covered half the $16,000 price. Jones and his wife, Betty, paid the rest by check.

Jones' son said his dad has always preferred to pay with coins. Dennis Jones said he's most amazed that his penny-pinching father decided to replace his old truck, which ran over the older man when its parking brake failed last year.

I think that guy's sister lives in my town because back when I worked at the grocery store, there was this elderly woman who insisted in paying for groceries with nothing but coins and $1 bills. At least she was a nice lady though.

Oh we have people who come in with ziplock bags full of coins to pay for their groceries!! And you know what--we make them put them in coin rolls and then they get weighed to make sure they are the proper amount. it's a big pain and customers behind these inconsiderate people are justifiably peeved.

As for the gentleman--isn't a check, "paper money"?
