Will there be a big-screen "Sopranos" movie?

"I spoke to David Chase about it a month ago, and he said no," Peter Bogdanovich said Tuesday. "He said he thought about it, and he can't figure out a way to do it. So I don't think it will ever happen. I don't think you can ever say never, but my hunch is it won't happen."

The success of the big-screen "Sex and the City" movie has raised speculation about transfering the HBO mob drama to the big screen. And Bogdanovich, who played Dr. Elliot Kupferberg, would have some inside knowledge about the thinking of series creator Chase.

Bogdanovich also knows movies as the director of "The Last Picture Show," "Paper Moon," "What's Up, Doc?" and "Mask."

Was he satisfied with that interrupted fade-out for Tony Soprano's family?

"It certainly got a lot of attention," Bogdanovich said. "I was annoyed that the one scene I did for the last show wasn't in there. [But] I thought it worked. ... Everybody was talking about it. I don't know that it was satisfying, but it certainly was paid a lot of attention."

Bogdanovich was promoting his appearance in the HDNet Ultra VOD film "Humboldt County." He appeared at the summer tour of the Television Critics Association.
