Today I saw the episode "Almost American". The beginning of the ep starts with Arnold having difficulty with history class , and also being friends with an immigrant, who is taking citizenship classes. The bulk of the ep deals with the immigrant, his teacher, and classmates. Only at the end are the Drummonds seen again. Was this a backdoor pilot, or were the writers unable to come up with any Drummond family ideas?

Yes, it was a backdoor pilot for NBC to once again try and use DS as a launching pad for new series (they would overdo it on FOL). This was horrible!

Agreed, I ended up fast forwarding through most of the episode.

Worst DS episode of the series and a close second is the episode-"Bulima"

Considering how we were cheated of seeing "Bulimia", I'll have to reserve judgement on that, Sol.

I love the Bulimia episode. Notice in the Almost American episode Rosalind Chao who plays Miss Chung, Arnold's teacher appears in this one as a diffrent character.
