View Full Version : Seeing the episodes with Judy makes me see why she was REMOVED from the show
TVFactFan 07-01-2008, 12:49 AM She never really had any speaking parts-lol You really didn't notice she was there even though she was seen because she barely spoke. Just like in the Rachel's place ep she said NOTHING and I guess she became a Pointless Character
Lorimar Television 07-01-2008, 11:54 AM Yeah, she didn't have many lines, but still they should've done more with her. It's not that Jaimee can't act, it's that they wouldn't give her enough lines. Watch this episode, she has alot of lines:

catlover79 07-01-2008, 01:44 PM I liked the character of Judy and I still think what they did to the character (and actress) was terrible. I loved the first Christmas show they did and the family was trying to find some CDs for Judy. The only one they could find was Willard Scott Sings His Favorite Camp Songs. "Oh look, Bryant Gumbel sings backup!!"
Lorimar Television 07-01-2008, 02:49 PM Yeah I always like her. There's a funny Judy quotes thread on this board. I liked when Eddie was talking about being a model and she said "Are you gonna be the before or after"?
Brent88 07-01-2008, 02:50 PM Did anyone notice that in the later years she is just completely forgotten? Carl and Harriette act like they only have 2 kids.
She had some great one-liners but never had many plots.
Lorimar Television 07-01-2008, 02:54 PM Yeah, I think we all noticed. Watch the link above, there's a Judy plot!
TVFactFan 07-01-2008, 03:14 PM I wish they could have made richie disappear too
Wow, thats about the most Ive ever seen that character talk in the entire series.
Lorimar Television 07-01-2008, 04:00 PM Why? I think it ruined the show by having characters dissapear. It lacks continuity and is very unrealistic.
Brent88 07-01-2008, 04:15 PM I wish they could have made richie disappear too
He did kind of disappear towards the end of the series when 3J was introduced(which I thought was kind of pointless). The last season he's BARELY seen at all.
BTW, do you know that Bryton McClure who played Richie is arguably the most successful of the entire cast today? He's on The Young and the Restless and is *gasp* 21 years old.
That brings up another issue, did you notice how Richie went from a baby in Season 1 to a 3 or even 4-year-old in Season 2?

Yeah i knew, for years I thought he was Michael Jackson's little nephew-lol
Furienna 07-06-2008, 10:15 PM He could have been one of his nephews!
Now really, making Richie disappear would have made more sense than making Judy dísappear, since Richie's mother almost disappeared, while Judy's family were all still there. But I guess they thought Bryton was cuter than Jaimee. :(
But as I've said so many times both here and at IMDB, they should have worked on the Judy character. She was soon to become a teenager, and that would have given them the opportunity to give her some interesting plots. But nah, they had to go cold turkey on the poor thing...
Lorimar Television 07-07-2008, 12:12 AM I thought she was so adorable in the first two seasons. Then she grew into a very pretty girl. She deffinitly should have had more of a role. They deffinitly should have gotten rid of Richie instead of Judy. Maybe then they could say he and Rachel moved out.
Furienna 07-07-2008, 12:16 AM Oh yes! That would have been the right thing to do.
GeorgiaboyJeff! 07-07-2008, 01:31 AM Poor Judy.. She was so neglected. She ran away from home and nobody even noticed she was gone. Well it's better than her disappearing into thin air..
He could have been one of his nephews!

I agree with this. The writers totally neglected developing her character which was pretty unfair. Her being a pointless character was the fault of the writers not the actress or even Urkel coming on, they worked on every other character except her. I saw that in the first and second seasons they gave her a little to work with, but after that it is like the writers just gave up. Also I will never understand how they got rid of Judy and kept Richie when his mother was written off.
Furienna 07-10-2008, 11:29 AM As I said, probably because they thought he was cuter. It's just like on "The Cosby show", where they had Olivia (Raven Symoné) still live with the Huxtables, even though Denise, her stepmother, was gone from the show. When her stepmother and father weren't around anymore, Olivia should have been raised by her real mother or her real grandparents, not her stepmother's parents. Wasn't that as silly as still having Richie on "Family Matters", even though his mother, aunt Rachel, was gone?
Lorimar Television 07-10-2008, 04:49 PM Yeah, you're right. Atleast they're his actual blood relatives though. But, the Olivia staying behind while her father was stationed somewhere was at least SOME explaination.
Lorimar Television 07-10-2008, 04:55 PM Also, Judy looked alot like the family. They made a good choice casting her. That's probably why Valerie Jones was replaced. Valerie would've been good as Rachel's daughter, but Jaimee really does look like Carl and Harriets daughter!
Furienna 07-10-2008, 11:20 PM Yeah, you're right. Atleast they're his actual blood relatives though. But, the Olivia staying behind while her father was stationed somewhere was at least SOME explaination.
Yeah, you could probably explain it away saying something like "She was used to living there, and you shouldn't move a child around." Fair enough, but in real life, Denise and Martin would have gotten their own apartment almost right away, so Olivia wouldn't have gotten used to living with Cliff and Claire anyway. And even if they would have lived there, the girl still probably would have had to live with her real relatives instead at that point. It sure was time for her real mother to take some responsibility too. I like to think her mother had her part-time, but that's just my wishful thinking, because we get no hints of that from the show. So really, yes, you're right. Richie living with the Winslows does make more sense, because they're his blood relatives. It just feels stupid, since one of their own children disappeared, but their nephew got to stay.

Actually, when I first saw Judy, and now I mean Jaimee Foxworth too, and not Valerie Jones, I really thought she was Richie's sister, because she spent so much time with him.

Oh I did too! I was shocked when I was watching the dance contest between Carl and his jerk coworker and she called him "dad". But she does match the rest of The Winslow family. When you think about it, she doesn't look much like Rachel or Richie at all.
Furienna 07-11-2008, 11:52 AM No, but Rachel could have had a darker child too, especially if the child's father was darker than what she was. But I soon found out that Judy actually was Eddy's and Laura's sister anyway...
Lorimar Television 07-11-2008, 01:45 PM True. I'm just saying that she looked alot like Eddie and Laura.
Jessica 07-13-2008, 07:48 PM She had kind of a big part in season 1, but not big enough, then in season, 2, 3, 4, almost none lines. I mean, how many times did we see her in season 4? I can only remember seen her once or twice.
Lorimar Television 07-13-2008, 09:37 PM Actually, she had a fairly large part in season 2. She had alot of lines in Ice Station Winslow and Taking Credit. She was also more apart of plots.
Furienna 07-14-2008, 03:51 AM Yeah, you can tell how they cared less and less about her for every year. :(
Lorimar Television 07-14-2008, 04:32 PM True. She was in atlest nine episodes of season 4 though.
LecyGoransonfan 07-17-2008, 02:15 AM i was watching like the first 3 or 4 episodes of season 4 this week and judy wasnt in 1 single episode, rachel wasnt featured a lot either. but you say judy was in 9 episodes in season 4 and usually a season has about 23-25 episodes meaning that there were at least 15 episodes without judy which really shows the writers didnt give a sh1t. if i were jaimee i would've complained too. do you guys think if jaimee and her mother hadn't complained and demanded more money judy would've stayed or would have she still been written off the show...i think they probably would've just had her do guest-spots here and there like how they did with richie in the later years hadnt jaimee and her mother demanded more money but oh well

Rachel left the show for that spinoff "Getting By", so yeah she was phased out quickly once the season started. In tonight's Season 4 episode(which aired in November 1992) she was already out of the credits(she's in them in the first few episodes). I find it odd how Rachel's Place is just TOTALLY forgotten about, despite the fact Laura and Steve worked there. It's never even mentioned again. The show really shifted focus in Season 5, and did anyone else notice that Eddie was a senior in high school in both Season 4 and 5?
I think Judy was going to be written out either way. She was barely written in as it stood.
Furienna 07-17-2008, 09:26 AM and did anyone else notice that Eddie was a senior in high school in both Season 4 and 5?
Nah, didn't he start college in season 5?
Edit: I checked an episode guide, and it seems like Eddy and Waldo actually didn't start college until season 6. Steve, Myra and Laura started college in season 8. But since season 1 was Eddy's freshman year, and season 3 was Laura's freshman year, it means they all went to High School for five years instead of four!

Actually Rachel appeared in the opening credits if she appeared in the episode. Some later episodes have her in the opening too. She appeared in the season finale.
glickmam 05-01-2009, 02:01 PM Of course, if Frank Dungan and Jeff Stein were running the show, Judy would not have been written out, because unlike Miller and Boyett, Dungan and Stein emphasized quality over quantity, as seen with their work on Mr. Belvedere.
