Just saw that they don't include the Opening Credits on the DVD that was originally aired on NBC with the Mural in the background.

For example, the NBC ep I have from Oct 4, 1990 shows the entire cast dancing to the Hip Hop Theme with the mural including Denise and Martin.

So season 7 was a WASTE OF MONEY, so pissed

They used replacement opening credits instead of the one with the family dancing in front of Mural to a Heavy D Hip Hop Tune.

The ep "Last Barbecue" didn't have the opening on the DVD that it had on NBC in October of 1990

What is the opening credits like on the DVD?

Was there a review of the season 7 DVD here on S.O.?

If you read the DVD review it was explained why

"The opening theme of this season is similar to season six (Apollo opening). We don’t get that rare theme (“Street Dreams”) that was used originally for the first 4 episodes probably because of what happened originally with the lawsuit. They eventually settled and that theme was finally used for season 8, minus Lisa Bonet and Joseph C. Phillips."

Yeah it mentions in the review that it was CUT OUT. That opening was only used for the first 4 eps of season 7. I didn't know because I never read the review until rebafan1 on the FM board just revealed that the opening was cut

No but I still like a complete season. And C&W could have included a small note about why they were missing and replaced.

I think that's a minor issue.

Mr. Television
06-30-2008, 08:05 PM
That probably wouldn't have bothered me since they used the same theme as the rest of the episodes. What I don't like is when the DVDS completely change the theme song. That's one of the reasons I've never bought MWC.

I would have liked to see the original season 7 opening, but they had a huge lawsuit over it, so obviously it wasn't going to be included. It definitely is just a minor issue - it's not like the actual episodes are edited or anything.

I believe the original season 7 opening was only season on the east coast originally, anyways, because they edited it out on the west coast versions before the west coast got to see it.

Yeah it was minor but it would have been nice if they included a small note inside the set as to WHY you won't see it. That would have closed up the small hole on the season set

Believe me Solomon, you are most likely the only person in Philly, if not the U.S., who wants to know that bit of info so they could sleep better at night. ;) I can't see SONY or any other company posting info as to why you WON'T see something on their DVD. I don't ever recall seeing on DVD boxes info such as why you WON'T hear the original music. That kind of stuff, you read in news blogs, tv boards and reviews.

Some companies are stupid enough to NOT say what IS on their DVD-LOL. Like on the One Day at a Time set, Sony forgot to list the ODAAT reunion anywhere on the box - I only found out about it because of the review for it here.

And did you guys here about the Cosby Complete Series set coming out? What I don't get is why'd they do that, yet not continue releasing A Different World on DVD. Sounds just like Sony-LOL

No not really. You see most of that dance scene the following year except Lisa Bonet and Joseph C. Phillips aren't in it. I was taping everything under the son back then and I was getting burned out by stupid channels skipping shows and other things happening. I finally said why am I doing this for? So I switched to taping movies and I've been happy ever since.

I used to tape things too back then because I worked nights at that time and I was missing shows. I saved those VHS tapes for the longest time. I ended up throwing them out but don't give a hoot abt them. :)

Here is the Season 7 opening with Denise and Martin from a Netherlands channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU_ze8N1sVM . Although for some reason the title says season 8. It is strange that the original season 7 opening cannot be shown here in the United States but it is used in other countries, like Netherlands, Germany, and Italy. I wonder why they can use it but we can't?

Could somebody explain the whole story here by detail? I'm not following. Did Lisa Bonet file the lawsuit? Why was the lawsuit just for her image just in this season? What do you mean only 4 episodes don't include the correct opening? Were Bonet and Phillips in these episodes were speaking of? How were they credited?

Anyway, I have the complete series set. and I'm disappointed to know they're deleted from the opening, also.

The opening credits that originally aired on NBC during season 7 featured the family dancing to a Heavy D tune and Martin and Denise was included. But these credits only were shown for the first 4 eisodes of that season on NBC because of some lawsuit. After the 4th ep, those opening credits were never seen again.

So do I have this right? --------

Season 6, with the family in front of the Apollo was both the Network and the DVD version.

Season 7 the Network version was the Hip Hop opening (including Denise & Martin) but was replaced with the Apollo Opening (which includes Denise & Martin) for the Dvd release. (This is the opening NOT on the dvd release??)

And Season 8 also was the Hip Hop opening for the Network and DVD release (Minus Denise & Martin, but adding Pam)

There also is an opening with a Montage of all season openings to the Hip Hop theme, was this used the entire season 8 for the network airing or just the last show??
