View Full Version : Jaleel's Posture??
PrettyinPink55 06-30-2008, 01:31 AM I know this is a strange title/topic for a thread, but I've always wondered whether playing Urkel all those years messed up Jaleel's posture...it sure must've hurt to have to bend your knees and walk like that all the time...lol. :p
Furienna 06-30-2008, 05:22 PM I've never heard about him getting any back problems. But he used to have to warm his voice up before he could talk that high like he did as Steve. It's still quite an achievement though, since few people would be able to get a voice like that, even with warming up.

 I am sure he was hurting during rehearsal and taping. I think the Urkel character for sure messed up his chances at furthering his career or being considered as a serious actor. ;)
PrettyinPink55 06-30-2008, 07:51 PM Was he ever in anything afterwards? I remember seeing him on The Fresh Prince as Ashley's boyfriend, but that's it, and I think that was during Family Matters.
Furienna 07-01-2008, 07:39 AM He was also the voice of Sonic in "Sonic the hedgehog". And just the other year, he was in a romantic comedy called "Who brought the potatoe sallad?", but yeah, he doesn't seem like he's in the spotlight anymore. It seems like he was so famous as Steve Urkel, that no one gives him a chance as anything else. And that's a shame too, since he's a great actor.
White seemed to also have a difficult time in the later episodes doing the Urkel voice as his own voice had changed. I never saw him in anything else since the show ended....come to think, I dont think any of the Winslow kid's acted in anything much after except Vel Johnson.

He's been in a few straight to DVD movies, and he did have a sitcom that came out in early 2000 (I believe), I can't remember the name. Also he has made guest appearances on a few sitcoms.

That's true. Most of them fell into obscurity after "Family Matters" ended. Except maybe the two youngest boys, who of course have grown up now and become young men. Bryton McClure, a k a Richie, has been on "The young and the restless", I think, and Orlando Brown, a k a 3J, was a major character as Eddy on "That's so Raven".
MikeLutton 07-01-2008, 09:13 PM eddie was on transformers movie i think he is doing other movies as well n starting his own family

It was The Grown Ups. It lasted for one season on UPN.
PrettyinPink55 07-01-2008, 11:51 PM Oh yeah!!! I remember that show!!
Have they had a reunion show yet? It's been 10 years!!!
It's great to see where everyone is now!!!
p4poetic 11-08-2009, 07:16 PM I really want to see Jaleel do the Urkel voice now. I wonder if he can still do it??

Yeah, that'd be interesting.
Furienna 11-09-2009, 12:31 AM I believe he can, but he doesn't want to do it.

I noticed that. At least, I get the feeling he wouldn't. I remember reading someone at a college he visited asked him to do it but he didn't want to. Which is strange, because he was willing to do the Urkel dance.
Furienna 11-17-2009, 07:44 PM I've heard he doesn't want to do it because it reminds him of Michelle Thomas, who tragically died in cancer only a few months after the show ended.
SWEETEA 11-18-2009, 02:10 AM Perhaps if he was getting paid for it. The whole cliche of that role probably took its toll being typecasted.
