You can tell from that pic that the Arnaz family really did have money back then. If that's really Desi you can see his grooming was good and so was his suit. That's a well-fitted suit. And it looks like he has a
straw fedora hat to match!

Yes, the Arnaz family was loaded. There is an excerpt from Desi's book where he mentions the Queen of Spain, in 1869, giving his great-great-grandfather a nice chunk of So. California land. Desi's great-great grandmother was named Ventura. Part of the land that was given to them included the area that is now called Ventura County. Ventura County is where I live. ;) It is amazing to know that I live on land that was once owned by the family of Desi Arnaz. A large part of what is now Los Angeles is also part of what they were given. Click on the link below and read that particular passage...click the word EXCERPT on the left to read it:

It is so nice to see you back on the bds. I missed you.

Yes, Desi reeked of money in this photo. That is interesting about the land in So. Cal. Just think of the empire Desi could have built with all that land and his film industry know-how. Maybe Universal Studios would have been Desilu Studios instead, located in Arnaz City! ;)

(Hi Rich, and thanks!)

Are you sure this is Desi? His facial features dont look the same, although similar. Pics I've seen in his younger days show he always had a slightly pudgy face. Not here.

Steverino, I agree with you. I'm not saying it is Desi, but I'm not saying it isn't as well. To me it looks like an old vintage postcard more than anything else. What is the source for this picture?

Like I originally said, I never would have guessed this was Desi. The hands look like they could be his.

I found this by doing a Google image search for "young Desi Arnaz." It is listed as "Young Desi Arnaz at Restaurant" poster.

How can we find out for sure?

Here is the source for that picture:

It is a recreation of a real picture which is probably why it may not seem like it is Desi but it is him indeed.

Desi was one handsome man indeed. ;)

I-

Thanks for the supporting information. I was starting to question whether or not that was really Desi.

Anything for you my salt sister. ;) I know you know your ILL and don't have any doubts as to what you provide here.

I don't believe that it is Desi Arnaz. To me it looks like an old postcard, or a page out of a vintage magazine or catalog. But that is just me, and everyone is free to think/believe what they want.

It is titled A YOUNG DESI ARNAZ AT RESTAURANT and then it states this:

"This high-quality art print is expertly produced to capture the vivid color and exceptional detail of the original."

I can't find the original pic on the net.

It is a nice art print though, regardless.

Oh Irene, I think it is a nice art print for sure but unless I would see the original photo I have a hard time thinking it is Desi. I know Desi was thinner when he was younger than by the time ILL came on, but I always thought his face was rounder. If it is indeed Desi, I don't think the artist did a very good job.

I think the artist did his/her own rendition of what they saw. I mean, every artist is different and sometimes adds their own touch of how they see a picture. A la Picasso. ;)

Wow! well thanx for all the info on that photo. It sure does not look like him, it just seems silly to re-image someone that way.

The more I look at it the less I think it's him. Someone needs to find a contact for Desi and Lucie and ask THEM if this is their Papa and just what was he "modelling" for in his late teens in Cuba. The suit?

Thanks for the info Irene. It would be interesting to see the original. Maybe the reason it doesn't look like him is the lack of original detail.
