Anyone know when it will be released?

It has been 18 months since Season Six of both All In The Family and The Jeffersons has been released and about 15 months since the release of Season One of Maude. Sony is freaking ridiculous in making us wait so long.

I am waiting for more Jeffersons too. Why the long wait? I want more Maude and All in the Family.

And when all all the seasons are released then a series set will come out at the price of $259.99

I'm sick of waiting - I think it would be stupid as hell to abandon the series now, more than half way through. It would also be rude and displeasing to all the fans that have waited patiently through Sony's slow process of releasing the first 6 seasons.

If you ask me, Sony seems to wait until they hit their sales goal with each DVD, then they make plans for the next season. It's been happening for years.

Is there anywhere we can write or call to complain about the slow releases for The Jeffersons and other Sony releases?

Try this number: 1-800-860-2878. While you're at it, you can request other Sony shows that are abandoned.

Sony seems more content to re-release series they've already finished in their crappy new packaing.

I hear you! What really sucks about TV on DVD is that it is like they are under a trial run, under a whole new financial system. The way it usually goes, when a show gets picked up by a network, the network carries it until the executives think that the show will become unprofitable. When that happens, that's when they get the axe. Unfortunately the same dynamic is occurring with TV shows on DVD. As the seasons continue to be released, I think they will be more and more unprofitable for these reasons.

1. The Jeffersons is widely available outside of their standard DVD releases. You can find it on numerous and various networks outside of DVD releases. That's a handicap for us fans.

2. As the series goes on to its later years, interest will diminish since most fans focus more on the dynamics of the first few seasons rather than the later seasons. That's a handicap for the later seasons.

3. Too many people don't care about "old shows' anymore unless they are family friendly, sci-fi, or crude in nature. There is so much stuff out there that sucks that somehow wins the honor of having their entire series on DVD. For crying out loud, the entire freakin' series of "Full House" is on DVD, and that show sucks. Meanwhile, shows that are funny like The Jeffersons or Perfect Strangers are having a hard time in the market because interest in them has either diminished, or view them as "oldies."

As the Jeffersons continues with each later season, it will get more and more challenging to release DVD's. It will get harder and harder with the 7th season. It will look almost hopeless by the 8th season. It will look nearly impossible by the 9th season. And 10 and 11 are in danger, I think anyway, of not ever seeing the light of DVD at all.

I was collecting the seasons of Green Acres, and it seems like there is no ray of hope past season 3. Too Close for Comfort has never had a high demand past its second season. These truths need to be seriously considered. Heck, even if we need to, perhaps we should get our family, friends, and relatives to sign the petitions so it at least appears as though the demand is high enough to release the next season. Maybe we should do to DVD demand what bodybuilders do to look muscular in a short amount of time; use the steroid method to catch the eyes of the Sony executives.

I do understand the money aspect of DVD releasing and its all about what the show brings back in and if season 6 did horrible in sales then maybe that' why the hestitation to release more. But the other thing that's confusing is if the show did well enough to get 6 releases then why be so hesistant to release the NEXT SEASON?

Sony has to know that each season will probably bring in less and less sales. It's not their fault or the show's fault. It's just the way TV-on-DVD works. I'm sure season 6 didn't sell terribly, but I'm sure it didn't sell outstandingly, either. I think if Sony has come this far with the series, it's extremely disappointing to see them stop now.

I'm stunned that a show in syndication can't sell well on DVD

Especially a show like The Jeffersons, that is probably one of the most popular sitcoms of all time. I don't think it's that it can't sell well. I just think that Sony sets its standards too high. They seem to expect that every show has to sell extremely well for them. when in likeliness, that doesn't happen, whcih is why they have so many shows just sitting around not being released.

I called the Sony number and this is what they told me:

I asked about the releases that they do. They told me that it does take a long time for a season to make its sales back to them. That's why you see continued releases a year or two years down the road. They also said that if one season didn't sell well, why put a lot of production into the remaining seasons?

Sadly, this show and others like "The Facts of Life" and "All in the Family" do not have any future release at this time. So what we have to do is to get more people to buy the seasons that are already out for them to break even or make sales good enough to release more seasons.

This is why they release current shows on DVD because they are sure to sell and people who missed the season on TV will be sure to buy them. This pushes promotion for these shows on the networks that air them. But for past or classic shows, they will not invest in them until they see some decent returns for ths stuff that is already out there. They claim that their classic shows do NOT sell as well as the current ones so they don't bother in continued releases. I said "so basically crap like Seinfeld and all that can get re-released like crazy and stuff", and they said "Yes because it's a popular title and people still buy the releases. We're not going to keep putting out seasons on what we THINK might make money because that would constitute a LOSS for us".

So SONY is actually a REACTIVE company with their classic stuff and highly PROACTIVE with their current stuff. They have to sell more than a few thousand copies on the seasons (50,000 to be exact) of a show they do have in order to release more seasons. So people, BUY MORE CLASSIC SHOWS AND LESS CURRENT SHOWS. That'll teach them.

And it will show them that we do care as much about the classic shows as we do the current shows.

I called our good friends at Sony about the continuing releases of "The Jeffersons" and I heard something That I couldn't believe. Marty (the guy I spoke to) told me that Season 7 is in the works. And it might be released sometime in January 2009, but please take this info with a grain of salt. At least they are working on something regarding this show, but until we get something concrete, this show is still "UP IN THE AIR".

A few weeks ago, I checked the tvshowsondvd website and didn't see anything for The Jeffersons on the "to be released" list. But I hope "Marty" is right.

This is very exciting. That is the same season, when the Jeffersons went to Hawaii.

When you called Sony, did Marty hint about any other classics being released soon. (Namely, All in the Family Season 7)?

Yes I did ask about "All in the Family" and Marty told me that there doesn't seem to be any info about this show as of yet. but they are indeed working on Season 7 of the Jeffersons, but there is still no release date info, so I'm going to assume that it might be in January 2009 as I have said earlier, but keep your fingers crossed, stay tuned to Sony and keep hope alive.

Can you please refrain from posting info like "they are working on season 7? I don't ven know what that means. Either it's being released or not, that's the only thing Jeffersons fans should see on this board.
