View Full Version : Did any other characters from Andy Griffith Show besides Aunt Bee visit Gomer?
TVFactFan 06-23-2008, 12:49 AM I see that she appears in Season 4 and was wondering if anyone else appeared?
you would have think she would have made an appearance a little sooner than season 4

I see that it was Andy and Opie who appeared
Someone mentioned that Gomer says that he glad his two favorite people met each other SGT Carter and Andy and forgot that they already met each other in the pilot.
Gomer never knew they met each other in the pilot because he wasn't around them
treky 06-23-2008, 01:58 AM there was also a second season episode where Goober appeared-I forget what the premis was, though.
And at the very end of the Opie episode, Andy also appeared. Then, there was an episode where Gomer went back to Mayberry for a visit, and Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, and Goober all had cameos at the very end.

Correct, I forgot to mention Andy.
Maynard 06-23-2008, 09:06 AM there was also a second season episode where Goober appeared-I forget what the premis was, though.
Goober just showed up on the base one day, announcing that he was ready to "try being a Marine out", and if he liked it he would stay, and if he didn't, he'd just head back home.

Was that a Andy Griffith episode or Gomer Pyle Episode when Gomer returns to Mayberry?
treky 06-23-2008, 04:20 PM no, it was a Gomer Pyle episode.
Dusty's Fan 07-11-2008, 08:02 PM The episode of Gomer Pyle USMC in which he returns to Mayberry is titled "Gomer Goes Home" from Season 4 (Jan. 5, 1968, episode 108 overall).

I saw that one for the fist time. Really dumb to have them show up at just the end. I felt so bad for Gomer though.
Also he went by Emmits store. He could have easily said "hey" to Gomer even if they didn't know each other. It was nice seeing Burt Mustin, but still, CBS really goofed on this episode.

So he went home and had no interaction with non of the AG characters?
Maynard 07-14-2008, 10:51 AM None of the major ones anyway.

Even though he didn't get to see his old friends, i thought this episode was funny. Leave it up to gomer to fix the get-a-way car.

I was also disappointed by this episode. I'm guessing CBS promised the fans (or the producers promised CBS) an episode in which Gomer returns to Mayberry, but either they couldn't come up with a good plot involving Andy and company, or they couldn't work out the shooting schedules to free up enough Mayberry regulars.
I would love to have seen an "Andy Griffith" episode in which both Barney and Gomer returned at the same time. That would've been hysterical. I see the plot as they all go looking for some crook who happens to be in the area, and Gomer upstages Barney somehow with his lately-acquired Marine skills, making Barney jealous.
dwayne986 05-24-2012, 12:24 PM None of the major ones anyway.
...not even Burt Mustin's character counts since he had a different name in this episode.
dwayne986 05-24-2012, 12:27 PM Opie did, He ran away from home to try and join the Marines.
...and that episode has my favorite scene from the series. Sgt. Carter takes Andy off to the side (still not knowing Andy that well but knowing Andy's very upset) and begs him not to use corporal punishment on Opie, like Sgt Carter's father once used on him at that age. That whole episode is very well done and rises well above the "ratings stunt" idea.
Mark Glicker 05-31-2012, 08:24 PM Though not technically fitting the question, mention should be made of Al Melvin "Hacker" of Gomer Pyle. He appeared on at least a few occasions on Mayberry.
