If you were to say something mean about someone's favorite show or actor/actress, what would be some of the things that, if you said it to them, would REALLY set them off?

I am speaking hypothetically, BTW.

Examples:

If I were to say Shannen Doherty was an overrated actress, I think littlebelle would knockmy teeth out.

If I said Lisa Whelchel, as Blair, wasn't a great-looking actress, I think CrazyForBlair would deck me.

Finally,

If someone told me Angela Watson wasn't great-looking or ugly...

I think that anyone who gets bent out of shape because others don't like who or what they like, whether it's a tv show or an actor, is immature. For example, I love The Sopranos and all the actors connected to it. If someone said they hated it, I couldn't care less. I never understood how people take offense over that sort of thing.

I agree it's a good idea that there's a rule here that members can't go to a show's forum to only bash a show. That's just rude, but if someone says they don't like a show or an actor on the General or Chit Chat board, it's just not a big deal, to me anyway. I'm not speaking hypothetically either. I figured you were speaking hypothetically since I know that people can't beat each up over the Internet. I don't think any of the actresses that you named in your post are great looking. They're pretty, but not gorgeous, in my opinion. See, my teeth remain intact. :D

What I do find annoying are the constant bashers, the haters. These people hate everything and everyone. They hop from thread to thread with their hateful remarks. The only reason I care is that it interferes with intelligent discussion on the topic. If a thread is just a 10-page bashfest, what's the point. It's one thing I miss about this site, are the actual discussions. If the haters aren't ruining it as they usually travel in groups, it's the unfunny clown who has to joke about everything, or the grouch, etc. I usually just open up and close most threads these days.

I am glad you brought up the Sopranos. Maybe you can explain what it is you like about the show? I have seen some episodes and all I saw was mean people who swear a lot. What really got my goat is when it was nominated for best Writing and all I ever heard was swearing.

Well I agree, Janice, but I think it's all in the way a person "bashes" a show. Saying you don't like it is one thing, but saying something like "only an idiot would like that show" gets personal. There are quite a few shows that don't do it for me, but obviously they must have some redeeming quality if others like them. Same with music, sports teams, etc; you either "get it" or you don't. I respect the rights of others to not like something I like as long as they equally respect my right to like it.

If that's all you heard, you weren't listening well enough. The Mob has mean people who swear a lot, so it was true to life. I think it was a well-written, clever show, with well-developed characters and excellent storylines. Loved the actors with a passion. I've always loved Mob movies and shows, so no surprise that I fell in love with this show. It's not for everyone. Some are turned off by gangsters and profanity. I'm not, so it's my kind of show. :wave:

Wow, those are some great pictures! Step By Step started during my freshman year of high school, and even though I wasn't a big fan of the show, I use to sometimes watch it to check out Karen and Dana. :lol:

And a big factor in all of this is taste is subjective. Like me, for example, am not a big sci fi fan so Star Trek doesn't do a thing for me. If someone gave me the whole ST series I'd trade it for some Patty Duke or more O & H eps. But I'd never go to a Star Trek bd and bash the show.

There are shows I just LOVE LOVE LOVE that others have said they don't care for or even hate. Like I Love Lucy and All In The Family. To me both are groundbreaking shows that I adore immensely. And of course the Adv. of O & H, which brought me to S.O. in the 1st place. The way I see it, if you don't like my shows its your loss, just like its mine that I can't appreciate most sci fi.

But some shows are so innovative and full of genius that you just throw away the Rule Book. Like The Twilight Zone, which is very sci fi but is so utterly clever I could watch it over and over. (I guess the mark of a TV masterpiece is that it transcends it genre)

So...I guess what it comes down to is...different strokes for different folks!

The Sopranos was more than just swearing. If you you followed the show from the beginning you would see that. There were plenty of great episodes and storylines. This was a show about mob life, you can't expect them to say please and thank you.

I've seen eps of The Sopranos, but out of sequence, however what I saw I REALLY LIKED. Cause I'm into mob related shows & movies too. Enjoyed what I saw enough to want to get the whole series, see it from beginning to end to truly savor it. Very tempted. If it ever turns up at a big blow-out sale I'll probably go for it. A year ago, J & R had a BIG BIG sales on 60s & 70s shows and I snagged three seasons of Bewitched for $20 each. So if something like this happens for the Soprano's...I'll take it as my sign. BTW have The Godfather I & 2 - they're classics & I love love love them. And will probably get 3 sometime down the line soon as I really like Andy Garcia.

Seriously thinking of buying Sopranos. Just saw something in the papers abt the whole series coming out for $400-that's too much...so I'm gonna look around...AND I KNOW I would get hooked. I remember one ep with Junior's mistress blabbing about his dining tastes. I remember being amused and thinking silly strumpet--didn't you ever hear abt not kissing and telling-esp. when you're doing a gig with one of DA BIG GUYS!!!

I agree that it's silly to argue over trivial things such as TV shows, movies, and music. Everyone has different tastes. There are some things I enjoy (like The Simpsons and country music), some things I don't care for (murder mysteries and rap music), and even the stuff I think ought to be banned from the airwaves (reality shows and Britney Spears and her ilk). I would never criticize someone for having different tastes than I do. I think the people who feel the need to bash fans of certain things they don't like are just like the playground bullies: they're not happy unless they're making someone feel bad about themselves. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them.
