Back in 2002-2004, you would always find what you want in the store, now I can't find anything, season 7 of the Cosby Show, NO COPIES OF THREE"S COMPANY, and Season 1 of Gomer Pyle


I went in there because where I had dinner Best Buy was up the road but now Amazon is the best way to go for ANYTHING MUSIC or TV SHOW related.


Best Buy is only for TV's and DVD recorders

Their DVD selection is for crap.

I went in there yesterday to look for "Burn Notice"- which came out Tuesday - and they had no copies left. Yeah, nice that it's on sale...if you had any!

And 3 other TV DVDs I was interested in were not there either.
And they all came out within the last two years.

The place blows.

The one by me usually has the new titles. They've even gotten things before their release date. They usually don't have older titles though. I think their selection is much better than Circuit City, at least by me. I usually get my TV DVDs from Amazon anyway.

Yeah, the Best Buy I go to usually always dissapoints me. I remember going there and they didn't have "Happy Days - Season Three." I figured that was a big enough title to be there, but nope. They never seemed to have any of the "Wings" DVDs. So everytime a season of "Wings" comes to DVD, I have to go to Meijer. Yeah, they didn't have any of the "Gomer Pyle" DVDS as well as many other big titles, I expect a DVD store to have.

I have more memories of leaving Best Buy mad and dissapointed than I do of leaving Best Buy happy with a great DVD purchase.

They had Seasons 3 and 4 of Gomer Pyle but I wanted season one since I'm trying to see if I will like the show. I almost passed out when it looked like they didn't have season 7 of the Cosby Show-lol

they NEVER have whats advertised in stock and their annoying salespeople won't leave you the heck alone - if you wanna help me get the hell outta my face, get in the back, and start putting some stock on the shelves!

We used to have some great "mom & pop" record stores by me that had an incredible selection but of course they all pretty much bit the dust courtesy of places like Best Buy and Walmart. It's disappointing but it's a painful sign of the times.

Best Buy has a terrible section these days. They used to have a great movie selection when they still sold VHS. Their music collection has been poor for just as long.

I thought of purchasing the first couple of seasons' worth of "Dallas" there the last time I was there; unfortunately, all they had of it was, I believe, #7 and #8. I ended up settling on the first couple of seasons' worth of "Lucy."

The rule of thumb at BB here in the Louisville, Ky area is that they get in roughly 6 to 10 copies of new releases (TV Shows) and once they are gone they will never be seen again in the store. Their selection is horrible but then all the stores around here do the same. If you see something that is not a new release it is simply what they have left that did not sell when it came out. I have to order almost everything now.

When I went in to get "Hawaii Five-O The Fourth Season" hey had three copies left. I went back yesterday looking for something for my computer and decided to check out the dvd section. Sure enough they had two copies sitting there and I wold bet money that they were the same two I saw after I grabbed mine. Around here the only selection you get is what is left. Stores never order additional copies of any TV Shows it seems except for the modern garbage that already has 10 seasons of it's run out on dvd.

If you go to Borders, look online first for some coupons. Do a google search.
(to get the best deal you may have to join the Rewards program which is free). There are always coupons.

They had it online but I wanted it TODAY-lol When I called 4 stores and asked for Gomer Pyle the person on the phone didn't know what I was talking about

I agree Best Buy sucks now regarding DVD's, their classic TV inventory is not like it used to be. I used to go there and usually find what I want, not any more. If something I want comes out on DVD, I usually order from Movies Unlimited. Best Buy is OK for electronics, I bought a new computer there and got a nice deal. The Geek Squad came and hooked up the whole thing.

Circuit City, on the other hand, has like 10 copies of every season. I swear, stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Walmart are really hit-and-miss when it comes to DVD's. We're much better off at Amazon.

I agree I like to watch my DVD's on the weekend so amazon is the best bet to go for ordering and just do it 5-6 in advance so I can have it on Saturday. That's where I will go for now on

The Barnes & Noble by me basically has every TV DVD released by a major studio, but only 1 copy of each. Yet, as I'm sure you all are aware, B&N charges retail for pretty much all their DVDs. I do get stuff from there sometimes if I have a coupon or if they are having a buy 2 get 1 free sale (which is going on now).

I do agree that Amazon is probably the best way to go with older TV DVDs. They have pretty much everything in stock and at good prices.

I don't know if you have one up there, but Fry's Electronics generally has a large DVD collection.

I save on the shipping charges plus I take advantage of any sales or promotions
that might be going on at the time. Sometimes I get coupons in the mail from Borders because of having made purchases during the year. After awhile the savings start to add up.

I've noticed that the online component of most of these stores is more useful in getting what you're looking for. WalMart site-to-store, BestBuy.com, CircuitCity.com... they all seem to have a 'pick up at the store' component that usually involves free shipping. I've found things that I was looking for that my local store didn't have, and just had them shipped from their website/warehouse. They often even have sales on their websites.

I stopped buying new-release TV DVD sets in-store back when season 4 of "The Jeffersons" was released on DVD and I couldn't find it anywhere. Ever since, I've been ordering them from amazon.com or deepdiscount.com. I'm not all that happy with DD right now, though, because I purchased season 8 of "Home Improvement" when it was released and I haven't received it almost 2 weeks later.

I took advantage of Fry's Electronics' sale on "The Cosby Show" seasons 7 and 8 when they were on sale for $9.99 the week of release (all seasons were at that price). I couldn't beat that price, and it's really the only reason why I bought them.

I think when it comes to music or tv shows, Amazon is the only option. Trying to get anything inside of a store in 2008 is a waste of time.

So that's probably why they don't carry a lot of DVD's now in the store because they may have HIGHER SALE NUMBERS online

Removing the Golden Oldies and the picture was not very good.I bet there was alot of people bringing there copies back to the store? I think some stores was scared to stock season 3 and was afraid the same thing would happen again with season 3. That's just my guess thoe.

At least Paramount (considering the sheer amount of music cuts and editing that happened with S2) did not have the gall to call S2 "The Complete Second Season." When a lot of major editing occurs in a television disc release (music replacement, syndicated cuts, etc.), I strongly believe that it is better that it is not called "Complete."
