Need some help...wondering if this case was ever on UM or if it came from somewhere else. I'm really pretty sure it was UM, although it's been a VERY long time since I've seen it.

Was there ever a case about this man who was on some sort of weird work-release program where he lived in this little concrete building overseeing some sort of machinery or generator nearby, and the sheriff would come up nightly to check up on him? The sheriff drives in one night and finds he's not there. I really don't remember anything past that. It's had to have been at least fifteen years since I saw it.

That sounds like the case of murdered police officer J.B. Hamby. He was shot by David Gordon Smith during the robbery of a license plate agency, was captured and after serving some time gained trustee status. He worked at a small lakeside water plant. One night, a security guard came by and found he had escaped (this was in 1985.) A few years later, he was recaptured.

I'm pretty sure this is the case you're talking about.

That's it! I knew I hadn't just imagined it. Thanks.
