Is this a really funny sitcom? I didn't see the original and i'm lookign for something to tape; saw one and didn't laugh at all (couldn't even finish the episode).

Anyone ?

I love Murphy Brown - Candice Bergen alone does it for me. There's a lot of political humor, but there's also a lot of regular humor, too. Keep trying it - it's definitely one of my favorites.

i doubt that now, some 15-20 years later, i'm going to understand the political humor, but okay.

It's one of my favorite shows, too. Not all the humor is political. And even if you can't understand EVERY joke, it's still worth it. IMO, Murphy's secretaries alone make the show worth watching! LOL

I love Murphy Brown too. I think you'll get the political humor. And like Kristen said, the humor's not all political.

I always thought that Murphy Brown was consistently good throughout it's entire run. I only got into the show near the end of it's run on N@N after many years of resistance, but it took several episodes for me to get into it, and that's only because I was too lazy to get up from the computer and change the channel while it was on.

After months of letting the show play, the dialogue began to sink in which led to my sitting down and watching it. Out of all the shows that I love, "Murphy Brown", hands down, was the hardest to initially get into.

Oh, and I wasn't all that crazy about Avery, but I think that the producers did a great job of keeping him in the background.

Yeah, all the episodes were pretty much consistent in being high quality and funny. I've always been a fan of the Diane Englsih episodes (season 1-4), because those to me were the funniest and they were the pre-Avery episodes. I wasn't a huge fan of Avery, either. I probably would have rathered the show kidless, but there's nothing you can do now :lol:

I also really didn't care for season 9 - Kay did nothing for me as a replacement for Miles. Season 10 was great, though - I loved the breast cancer storyline, and that season was a huge step up quality-wise from the previous season.

The first season will always be my favorite, though, because that's when the show stayed true to its roots - we saw more of the journalistic side to the show, whereas in later season, they kind of moved away from that.

I've heard that it helps to have three martinis first.

I liked the final season set as well - that season really seemed different from the usual Murphy Brown, but that's why I liked it. The set was really bright and calming - the old set seemed more "Murphy"-esque if you will.

You should buy the first season - some of the funniest and best episodes in the series are in the first season. Of course, that's just my opinion, but they're still good and fun to watch no matter what. I will agree with you, though, that it is an acquired taste. The average TV-watcher will need time to warm up to the show - I did.

I watched from the beginning when it first aired. I had a major crush on Faith Ford. Anyway, it was a very good series with some excellent episodes.

Great casting and really good acting -- everyone really got into their characters and the roles were played with amazing consistency through the seasons.

I understand what you mean. I guess some shows just aren't for certain people.

I agree with you, Candice is the best part of the show. She has great comedic
timing. I'm dating myself but I do understand all the political humor.

Actually, I like all the cast members together, and how the main characters aren't only co-workers, but friends as well.
