IMO, this marathon is kind of disappointing. Do we really need 2 nights of ALF? I mean, it's not even that good of a show to begin with. Family Ties is probably the highlight, but having Cosby on when we get daily anyways is disappointing, too. And ET? They should have saved that for the weekend, and aired another TV show instead.

They couldn't obtain one or two other shows, that is why E.T. and another ALF is in there. Can't exclude Cosby Show, as it is one of the best of the 80s indeed, even if it does air on WGN already.

If they went with a second night of a show it should have been Family Ties. And I was hoping to see Benson and The Wonder Years. I'd say their 70s marathon was better. At least I'll get to see Family Ties and who knows, maybe I'll love Alf. :lol:

I agree, the 70's marathon was better. At least we had a great variety of shows. The 80's marathon really only showcases 2 classic 80's sitcoms, Cosby and Family Ties.

That is disappointing. I agree with everybody above.

Cosby Show airs daily on the channel so who cares?
Family Ties and ALF are great but no need for 2nd day of ALF...
Also, ET, I mean sure for a movie night that's a great one to air but no....

It's underwhelming compared to the 70s week, but I'll take it. I'm looking forward to "Family Ties," because I definitely haven't seen that in a long, long time. I think the last time I saw it was when it was on Hallmark for a short while a few years ago.

I grew up on "ALF" reruns, so I have no problem with it being included in the marathon at all. Two nights of it? Nah, I don't like that idea, especially considering they could have put a "Newhart" night in there. It would have been the perfect way to show some of the later episodes with Stephanie and Michael, but alas...

I'm not surprised by "The Cosby Show" being in there. I pretty much expected that one. I've never cared for "ET" so that's a big eh...

I don't like this.It would have been great if they could have shows like "The Facts Of Life" and Perfect Strangers.I personally don't really watch "The Cosby Show" because I've seen just about every episode and it had a lot of boring episodes like the one where the Grandfather is playing poker.I like that They're airing Alf and Family Ties.

I had the station when I was in College in Connecticut, it's one of the Best cable stations in the country

WGN in Chicago does not get this classic TV week or any of the new retro programming.

Right, which is why I said those of us in Chicago are getting screwed out of seeing the great programming WGN America is airing. Using a sports analogy it's almost like when your local game is blacked out in your area. Quite annoying.

WGN is a basic cable channel, though, so Comcast subscribers (like me) should have it.

I honestly don't get the confusion LOL. WGN, good old WGN that everybody in the country except for Chicago gets, is now calling itself WGN America. The same WGN that airs "Matlock" and "Sister, Sister" and used to show "The Rockford Files" and "Magnum PI"

It just dawned on me why Comcast in Philly can't have WGN on their service, because I think it's a Chicago Comcastsportnet channel and the Comcast here only want Philly Subscribers to see The Philadelphia Comcast Sportsnet.

I remember when WGN was simply channel 9 and everything they aired was announced with starting times in Central Time. I used to watch Bozo The Clown in the morning on it. It was just like living in Chicago no matter where you got the channel on cable. I also remember how TBS aired everything 5 minutes behind every other station. Both used to air several classic shows. Now of course both stations suck wind like all other channels.

Well from the special programming that WGN just recently aired it doesn't look like it sucks to me

This Outta sight Retro Nights 80s week is gonna be total nuts. Two nights of the same show and a movie (although it was a great one) a proper Outta sight Retro Night marathon does not make. They would have thrown in other 80s sitcoms like Gimme a Break, Head of the Class, Kate and Allie, Mr. Belvedere, or Perfect Strangers? I think ALF s#cks because they are running two nights of it (they only had to run only one night of it.) When it was a flashback to the 70s, they did have one show each night. I hope WGN America does a redo of this marathon.

Hey! Stop bitching! I mean hell ALF, and Family Ties won't be joining the damn lineup. The second night of ALF is nice IMO. I mean if you really miss those shows. Take advantage of the opportunities to watch them. Hell, if I had only one opportunity to watch a rarely seen show like ALF, I'd jump on it!

The CW's Chicago affiliate WGN (local, not WGN AMERICA) has pre-empted "Friday Night Smackdown" until 11:30PM ET on Friday July 11th for a simulcast of the four-episode marathon on sister cabler the WGN AMERICA.

I wonder whether this WGN AMERICA simulcasting will continue through the summer since the WWE Smackdown is due to move to MyNetworkTV in the fall. Have you heard anything more about this, pavanbadal?

I just looked up and WGN-CW9 is airing ALF from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Central Time but WGN-CW9 is airing Friends at 11:30 pm not WWE Smackdown.

Sorry if I missed it, but are these marathons just for fun or are they testing the waters for WGN America to fully pick up these shows? I know they air WKRP, Newhart and Honeymooners on Sunday nights but what about Family Ties and Alf?

They are not going to air Family Ties and ALF as regulars. They have no plans on changing their Sunday night block in the near future.

Myself, I am thrilled. Could we of had another show on the schedule somewhere?. Sure. But I am thrilled with what we have. No, Alf is not the greatest, but it's fun and nostalgic for us who grew up on it (I even got the doll for my birthday once) and have not seen it since the early 90's. It's a thrill for me and others like me. A second day of it?. Fine with me. Family Ties is a treat. This show hasn't been on here in years and years. One my top 80's favorites. Two shows that no one, at least here, is showing and hasn't in eons. I couldn't be happier, especially when other stations(TV Land, RTN) are getting quite boring.

My cable company has had WGN for as long as I can remember, at least through the early 90's.

Hmmm...could be, dare I say it, the 1990s and the 2000s, but the 2000s wouldn't be so retro.

I guess it could be the 1960s, but I don't know if they're trying to be that classic, but then again...they are airing "The Honeymooners," and that's 50s. And if it's two decades over four nights, it could be two from the 1950s and two from the 1960s.

I don't know but that is a very great idea.

I find their new logo is a bit weird, plus it bothers me that the WGN America is on top of the eyes as opposed to the bottom.

They could do Happy Days, Hillbillies, and Honeymooners for a 50s-70s week.

Andy gets lots of air time on TVLand, putting it on retro week would be overkill. The four shows I'd like to see are I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Family Affair, and Gilligan's Island. Throw Gomer Pyle in the mix too.
