Someone in another forum was saying that the show has received rave reviews in UK. I'm glad because the few ones I've come accross have not been positive. Anyways, let's hope the British get the humor and the show ;) !!!

it's interesting to note that some shows in US don't fare well with some critics and viewers, and yet abroad, the response has been the complete opposite. hopefully though, if this show is as good as you guys have made it, and it probably will be, it should hopefully force abc or some other network to continue putting its faith on back to you and take into consideration the public's support for this show. i am keeping my fingers crossed that it will do well here in the UK, especially :)

I watched it just then, it was ok, with a few laughs, But I just read that it isn't getting renewed for a second season. So it makes me wonder if I should even bother to carry on watching it :confused: .

Believe me, it gets better ;) . At this point all we know is that the producers and Kelsey are still in talks to bring it back on another network. Regardless of the outcome, I'd say the show is still worth your time. I heard that you're also getting the two extra episodes that we didn't get to watch here :mad: and that we're hoping will come out on DVD :wave: !!

Yeah, the pilot definitely wasn't one of the best eps, in my opinion. Looking back on all the episodes now, they definitely do get better. You'll enjoy them.

Do you suffer from irksome, brain-spearing Carrophobia? Ever glimpsed the shiny, one-expression face of British comedy's Pillsbury Doughboy*, Jimmy Carr, and then been compelled to pan in the telly?

If so, banish expensive TV repair bills at a stroke! Just don't watch Jimmy Carr's Commercial Breakdown and you'll avoid being violently enraged by a tired old vehicle wherein the prince of the non-PC put-down waxes dismissive about yon ads on the box. Just like the rest of us have been doing at home in front of our own tellies for years.

Only Jimmy Carr does it a bit more sharply, and cruelly. And much more annoyingly. Gaze upon JC and grow more vexed, knowing that truly, this man is the son of grrrr . . .

Turning to a far more pleasant show, Back To You made its terrestrial debut, starring sitcom deity Kelsey Grammer. Over two decades from 1984, Grammer played the mildly irascible and reassuringly flawed psychiatrist, Dr Frasier Crane; first in Cheers and then as the star of Frasier, throughout 264 episodes over 11 years.

If you dug Frasier's foibles, have a swatch at Back To You during its six scheduled UK outings. The show was cancelled last month after a single-season 14-part run in its native America, presumably having failed to attract sufficient numbers of viewers.

Perhaps folk failed to be gripped by its slow-burning start, as it went about introducing the news team at Channel 9, Philadelphia. Shamed old egomaniac anchorman Chuck Darling (Grammer). His feisty co-host and one-time amour Kelly Carr. The duo's bitter/backstabbing/ inept colleagues. Sweaty young over-promoted Ryan Church. Hapless wannabe anchorman Gary Crezyzewski. Oafish old sportscaster Marsh McGinley.

Maybe Joe Public was unmoved by the way in which Back To You satirises the TV news-presentation process in an informed if in-jokey way: eg, highlighting the empty modern urge for visual urgency that results in reporters delivering on-the-spot night-time reports from courthouses that have plainly been shut for hours.

Or did audiences turn off because the show features sharp, wordy gags that signal a little too clearly that they've been written by clever people?

Take this exchange between weather-girl Montana Diaz Herrera, a shameless, skimpily-clad hussy who craves workplace affairs with older men. The mini-skirted Montana explained that she preferred to be called "meteorologist because it makes me seem like a professional". Gazing dismissively at her bared thighs, Crezyzewski rasped: "Trust me, that skirt alone makes you seem like a professional."

Or how about Chuck gallantly seeking to reassure Kelly Cooper: "You look younger now than you did 10 years ago!"

"You even said that with a straight face," Kelly ruefully replied, prompting Chuck's pay-off: "I'm chock-full of Botox."

As ever, Kelsey Grammer hovered perfectly between bluff pomposity and panic, with a measure of good-hearted schmaltz thrown in. He's currently recovering from a mild heart attack before he begins filming another sitcom, as the star of the US version of the not-very-good British show Roman's Empire. Savour him now in Back To You.

The show gets better as the season goes. Even MASH wasnt popular until all the other shows started to run the re-runs back in 1972.

I think that's what turned Kevin Reilly off - all the good writing probably confused him, which is why he never liked it :lol:

that's not a good sign. if this rumour is true, then that it very dissapointing to hear. then again, just because it didn't fare well in the US, it doesn't mean other viewers had to follow suit.

True, and it's not like ratings in the UK affect ratings in the US. If the show didn't do well in the UK, it could do much better in the US.

I think the cancelation has much to do with it! Also, I think that in the beginning people were quite shocked at the cancelation news but now they're over it. Buzz on a possible shift on another network has died down! In my opinion Grammer and the producers should have kept the buzz going and let people know that they're still negotiating. Word of mouth is very important. That way there would still be interest in the show here and abroad!

Personally, I would LOVE for the show to come back, like everyone around here ... but as things stand currently I'm hoping that at least Patty Heaton gets in on some other project like the rest of the cast!

just to left you folks know that here in the uk, more4 is a satalite channel and is therefore NOT channel 4. i think there were 3 factors that come into play- 1) the fact that this is not on channel 4 because if it was, then i'm sure plenty of viewers would have tuned in; 2) friday nights on channel 4 showcase a lot of american tv, such as the big bang theory and ugly betty and friday night would've been ideal to televise this show. unfortunately, we have the reality crap that is known as big brother occupying friday nights at the moment; 3) the sunday evening slot for this show at 10.00 could be moved 1 hour earlier at 9.00 (although when frasier aired on friday nights a few years ago, ratings peaked when it was on at 10.00). then again, i don't think a show such as back to you should be on sunday night anyway
