Pretty soon I'll have the whole HD collection on vhs tapes but I want to convert them to dvds. I'm not sure if I should though, once I get the tapes, because I'm unaware and unsure of the vhs-to-dvd converter. For anybody who has the converter, can you tell me a bit about it, how long it takes to convert, if it's worth buying, if the quality of the dvd is good? I really need to know, I know that this isn't the biggest question to do with HD but it still has to do with it. Thanks.

it depends, definitely if you record direct to DVD it is a lot better quality than if you copy it from vhs to dvd.

it would definitely take quite awhile to copy all those VHS tapes to dvd, but I have no idea how long, or whether its worth it.

Thanks for the input, sorry but what do you mean record directly to dvd? I know it will take a while to convert from vhs-dvd but I guess I'm alright about that. Can you explain more about the recording it to dvd? Thanks.

if you had a dvd recorder and recorded it off the TV instead of copying from vhs to dvd

I dont know what "vhs to dvd converter" you have, but I assume it is a dvd recorder? I am just saying that it would be lower quality and I don't know if it would be worth it compared to how long it would take.

Oh ok, yeah that doesn't help since it's on vhs tapes lol. But uhm, I don't have the converter, I'm posing this question as if I should invest in one or not. And what I'm talking about is a converter, i think they run around $60 on E-bay that takes vhs tapes that you have at home and you pop in the vhs tape i presume and it converts it into a dvd disc. I just don't know the linguistics of it and how effecent it is or if the quality of the dvd(s) come out good or not. And ok, I am also worried about tapes because they can easily be destroyed or eaten up, that's part of the reason why I want to convert them to dvds. I wonder if some brands of vhs-to-dvd converters are better then others or does it not matter as the quality comes out the same? Anyways, thanks again.

I have converted most of my HD tapes to DVD. However, I used a DVD recorder, not a converter. From what I've heard converter work just as well as recorders. I recorded them in LP, mostly because of storage space issues; if you don't have this problem use SP since in DVDs SLP picture quality is terrible.

Thanks for the info man, so they're actually not that bad? I just don't wanna buy it, convert em to dvds, spend all that money and time and they end up being of ****ty quality, ya know?...
