View Full Version : 'Grey's' insider calls Katherine Heigl's Emmy comments 'an ungrateful slap'
Brian Damage 06-13-2008, 06:17 PM One day after Grey's Anatomy's Katherine Heigl announced that she would drop out of this year's Emmy race, because "I do not feel I was given the material this season to warrant a nomination," a key show insider contacted EW.com to express regret that the actress publicly complained about the drama. “The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material?" the insider said. "It's an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.”
Heigl made the comments on June 12 after Gold Derby discovered the star's name was not on a list of Emmy contenders distributed by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The omission was especially bizarre considering that Heigl won last year’s award for best supporting actress in a drama.
Critics jeered Heigl's performance early in the season, complaining about the romance between her character, Izzie, and George (T.R. Knight). But the actress shined in Grey's season finale when her character redeemed herself and her career at Seattle Grace.
This isn't the first time Heigl has publicly criticized the show that helped to make her a household name. Last year, the actress dropped out of salary renegotiations, reportedly because she felt the studio doesn't value her as much as it does her cohorts. ABC TV Studio fired back, insisting the Grey’s actress had been offered a substantial raise. Heigl has since received a salary bump.

Sounds to me like Miss Heigl doesn't want to be on the show anymore.
Personally I hope they let her off the show.
I just can't wait for the sequel to 27 Dresses!
;)

 She just keeps getting more and more annoying. I thought she was obnoxious at the Emmy's last year going off about how they didn't pronounce her name right.

Yeah, I've read a few articles about Miss Heigl's new found Divaness with her success on TV and now in movies..
Is Divaness a word?
Okay, it is now.
;)
samanddiane4eva 06-13-2008, 07:57 PM You know, I've come to think that she doesn't realize what slips out of her mouth sometimes.
Does she even remember a certain writers strike?
Pavan 06-14-2008, 12:14 AM Watch the videos with the paparazzi following her (check them on YouTube). She is not obnoxious at all (nothing like Lohan or Britney). She handles it very well. I think she is a good person. I think the media tries to portray her pretty bad with all of this. So she backs out of the Emmys, that's her loss. Big deal. She was great in the season finale.
TJL, 27 Dresses made like 76 million at the box office.
Scoobiedoo30 06-14-2008, 12:21 AM I saw the Video and I cant belive they would follow her
HuntingtonM15 06-14-2008, 12:36 AM I still find her to be annoying as hell, and in my opinion, her best work was in Bride of Chucky. :)
Janice 06-14-2008, 02:38 AM I watched the video, and I can't believe all the fuss made about it. She was very respectful. Perhaps she thinks she's being fair to the other actresses by dropping out. I don't know her GA's work, but I thought she was very good in, Knocked Up. Talk about natural beauty, wow. It seems to me that her words or intentions are being twisted for the sake of a story. I do know that some shows are more private than others and are good at keeping their issues under wraps, while others shows make a mad dash for TMZ or Access Hollywood.

Thanks for pointing that out.
Jeez, sorry to offend all the Katherine fans.
I guess making fun of celebs isn't something I can do around here anymore.

You're not offending me. I know her from one movie only, that I enjoyed. I'm certainly not a fan. I'm just wondering if this story is much ado about nothing. Although I can see how the writers would be offended, it seems that those against her, not on this site, those mentioned in the article, are being so hard on her. She came across as very sweet to me in the video in question; however, I'm out of the loop of Grey's Anatomy, having never seen an episode. Maybe I should have stayed out of this one, lol. Goodness, don't ever stop making fun of celebs. That's half the fun of this site. ;)

You keep doin' wht you're doin' TJL. We all know where and why certain people's defense mechanisms chime in. lol ;)

Pavan 06-14-2008, 12:30 PM No, TJL...just pointing our that the 27 Dresses joke didn't make much sense since the movie did well at the box office and was a fan favorite. I've yet to see it though. It wasn't like Over My Dead Body with Eva Longoria which flopped at just over 7 million or I Know Who Killed Me with Lindsay Lohan which was just a bad movie.
Never knew you watched Grey's, though.
HuntingtonM15 06-14-2008, 01:36 PM No, don't stop with the jokes, TJL! I liked the joke, because to me, anyway that you look at it the movie is still one big fluff fest. :)
Joking about Katherine Heigl to Pavan is about the same thing as somebody joking about and putting down M*A*S*H to TJL, Patricia Heaton to Brian Damage or The Fonz to myself. :)
I've watched Grey's Anatomy since day 1. She is right. They didn't give her anything Emmy-worthy this season. So many actors would just take an Emmy nomination even if they didn't deserve it and run. She comes across as very sweet and humble. I don't think this was a ploy for more money or anything. 27 Dresses proved she could be successful in films. Don't forget about Knocked Up, either.
Don't forget about Knocked Up, either.
Katherine discussing Knocked Up in Vanity Fair:
"It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”
It looks to me like she enjoys biting the hand that feeds her.
;)
Ireneparalegal 06-15-2008, 02:27 PM Why did Katherine take the role in KNOCKED UP then? Of course she read the script first, didn't she? Why then take the role? :dollar:????

I honestly don't think she deserved the award last year. Chandra Wilson is the best actress on Grey's IMO. I can understand why people love Sandra Oh as well, however 1. She plays the character of Yang very well, but I don't like Cristina Yang at all, and 2. The character is pretty one-dimensional to me because she shows no emotion whatsoever.
I miss the naivety and innocence that was a part of Katherine's character in seasons 1 and 2. George as well.
Janice 06-15-2008, 02:56 PM I'm surprised that Katherine has such negative feelings towards her role in Knocked Up. I went into the movie blind, thinking it was a silly comedy, and I was blown away. It's the sweetest, most heartfelt movie I'd seen in a while. I would think that anyone connected with the movie would be proud. It was a huge success too. RottenTomatoes lists it making close to 150 million, and gave it a 91%, which is very rare.
