Which part of the country did the Stephens live? I always thought they lived in the northeast. But I noticed palm trees in an episode of season 6 when Phyllis & Frank were driving home after visiting little Adam. Any idea?

They lived in Westport, NY, a suburb of NYC. The reason you see palm trees is simply a goof on the producers' part when they were filming exterior shots.

Well the set was actually in Burbank correct? That can explain the palm trees. The sets (I imagine back then) were not up to par as they are nowadays.

It's kind of like Little House on the Prairie - which had such a mountainous terrain for Minnesota.

I'm not sure if it was ever specifically stated CT or NY, but since McMann and Tate was in NYC and Darrin, esp in the early seasons, took the train at Westport to go into NYC, it must be a fair drive. Also Sam and Darrin referred to Westport as "the village" in the early episodes. I'm sure it is discussed in Herbie J. Pilato's Bewitched Forever book, but it's somewhere in my closet and I just don't feel like going into that dark abyss at the moment

There was no mention in the show ever that they lived in any location but Westport Conn., & there were several mentions of them living in Westport with 1164 MGC located in it.

It was stated on numerous occasions that 1164 MGC was located in Westport as is listed below.

What is important is what actually was seen in the series not what was in a script or an article or Book as what was actually in the episode is all that really counts, the rest doesn't exist in conjunction to Bewitched, Samantha & 1164 Morning Glory Circle, only the episodes filmed do.

In # 223 "Money Happy Returns" while angry & actually in the house @ 1164 Endora says in anger she is going to shatter every window in Westport if she doesn't get her way, clearly refering to this being the location in which 1164 was located in.

# 193- Handley's Department store has the Stephens' address recorded as "1164 Morning Glory Circle, Westport"
& it is read as such outloud by the sales clerk that was turned into a little boy by Tabitha.

# 17- The realtor is "Westport Realty"

As well in the Pilot script the show was refered to as The Witch from Westport or words to that effect.

As well in # 209 "Samantha's Pet Warlock" Darrin tells a Client that "he lives way out in Westport", these are some that come to mind & i recall a few other instances where Westport is clearly stated as the geographical location for 1164 while NY is always mentioned as a vague location & never as the location of 1164 Morning Glory Circle.

So the Bottom line is that several times 1164's location is clearly stated as Westport but not once is it ever directly refered to as residing in NY or any other location.

Hence in my view 1164 is clearly located in Westport & not in any city in NY such as Patterson NY for example.

There was a westport in the state of NY, but as a result of it's location to the city of NY with it being in the far northern part of the state, it could not have been possible that it was the location of 1164 MGC.

So my View is that it was Westport Conn. that was the home of 1164.

I always assumed it was Westport, CT(which does exist, for those of you that don't know already). I have a U.S. Atlas and by looking at it, Westport wasn't far from NYC by train.

Interestingly enough, 'Who's The Boss' was set in Fairfield, CT (another real town), and Angela's office was located in NYC and she always took the train.

Martha Stewart lived in Westport, CT at one time. That's a place where the very affluent live.

Ok, so it is Connecticut........let's not make a federal case over a simple slipup

Many people tended to be confused the same way about the location of Danfield in The Lucy Show. That was def. in NY, because they frequently mentioned how close they were to New Rochelle, another NY town and one episode centers around the NY World's Fair and how residents needed to help out. People thought it was Conn, because the previous Lucy series ended with Lucy moving to Conneticut. (Was that one Westport, too?) And many TV reference books simply copied the wrong information from one book to the next.

You'd have to be one heck of a gardener if you can make palm trees grow in the Northeast.

they lived in Westport, Conneticut. (which is also where Martha Stewart lives and where the Ricardos and Mertzes lived in the last season of "I LOVE LUCY" & "THE LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR").

Then again, this is Bewitched we're talking about. Sam and Endora had a special knack for "growing" things. ;)
