View Full Version : Favorite Decades For Sitcoms
My favorites are the 1970s and 1980s. The early to middle 1990s were decent too. I really don't care for any sitcom after about 1995 or so because the quality went way down. Perhaps a lot of this is because of nostalgia. These were the shows I watched as a kid. I am a huge fan of the Norman Lear shows. I really love them all, some more than others of course. The shows from the 1950s and 1960s are okay. For instance, I suppose we all love I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver. They are classics. However, some of the others from that period are just too sugarcoated and sweet such as Father Knows Best and Make Room For Daddy.
Here are some of my favorite sitcoms: All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, Gimme a Break!, Small Wonder, Punky Brewster, Webster, and Roseanne.
waichingliu81 06-10-2008, 05:33 PM i was born in the 80s and to be honest apart from the jeffersons, i am not that familiar with 70s sitcoms. personally speaking in going by what i've seen, i prefer the 90s. as most of my favourite shows tend to span from that decade: fresh prince of bel air, hangin' with mr cooper, caroline in the city, frasier to name. i also like the cosby show, diff'erent strokes and who's the boss? to name from the 80s
JulieSomoski 06-10-2008, 05:39 PM I like a lot of shows from the 80's/early 90's, but there are also many shows from the 70's I enjoy, so it's hard to choose a favorite. Not many memorable shows from the late 90's/2000's though, but there are some.
I'm also not much of a fan of shows earlier than the 70's. I enjoy some, but they're just not my thing.
PunkyP0WER 06-10-2008, 06:17 PM 80's and early 90's. the only shows i like from the 70's is all in the family and three's comapny. from the 80's is night court, punky brewster, golden girls and unsolved mysteries. and the early 90's is nurses, the commish and clarissa explains it all.

The 80s would probably be my favorite decade, followed by the 60s.
Ireneparalegal 06-10-2008, 07:44 PM No doubt in my mind, the 70's were the best decade for sitcoms. You had all the Norman Lear shows. Plus, there were so few channels back then, the networks were all abt dramas or sitcoms. No reality shows, no crap, nothing but good ol' programming.
BarneyFife 06-10-2008, 07:44 PM I like the 70's best, followed by the 60's and then the 80's.
megamanj2004 06-11-2008, 02:30 AM Without a doubt the '70s and '80s!
The early-to-mid '90s were OK.
But after that, I could barely stomach watching many sitcoms of the late '90s and 2000s.
Some of the '50s/'60s weren't half bad either since my favorite '50s/'60s Sitcoms were "Get Smart," "The Munsters," "Addams Family," and "Gilligan's Island"
Race's Girl 06-11-2008, 08:00 AM The 1990s and 2000s are pretty funny
Fleet 06-11-2008, 09:21 PM I think sitcoms peaked in the 1960s.

DSfan 06-12-2008, 12:11 AM Personally, I like and watch reruns of many shows from the 80s and 90s.
From time to time, I will watch 50-60s shows like I Love Lucy or Lassie or sometimes newer ones like That 70s Show and My Wife and Kids but definetly the 80s and 90s are my favorite.
I really have never gotten to know the sitcoms from the 70s for some reason. Happy Days, Three's Company are ones I've seen and liked but other than that I would probably fall in love with those shows after getting a chance to watch them all entirely.
Scoobiedoo30 06-12-2008, 06:37 PM 1980's
PWEDTC 06-13-2008, 01:55 PM The 1980's had the best sitcoms. No other decade comes close.

bencasey 06-14-2008, 12:00 PM Your favorite is whatever decade you were 8 years old in. For me, it would be the 60s. But it doesn't matter what the shows were, just what age YOU were.
