Former Spice Girls star Melanie Brown has written a new sitcom which she describes as the "black version" of hit children's TV series Hannah Montana.

Brown has penned the script and is set to star in the new series, which has been picked up by TV channel Nickelodeon and is scheduled to go into production later this year.

The singer claims the show has a style similar to teen star Miley Cyrus' programme Hannah Montana - which has been a major global success - but insists it will appeal more to young, black kids.

She says, "I've written my own sitcom that's just been picked up by Nickelodeon that I start at Christmas.

"I'm the star of it. It's a bit like Hannah Montana, but the black version."

Nickelodeon will do anything to keep up with Disney these days. They should think about bringing back Taina (it will the pre-Hannah Montana) rather than the 'black Hannah Montana'.

I agree - they really should have cashed in on the HM success a year or so ago, though, when it was still hugely popular. Now, it seems like the success has died down, and people just aren't as interested anymore.

i wouldn't put it that way, although the article states she will play a role in the show. besides, the 'black hannah montana' is going to be a youngster at around miley's age which is 15

i suppose that given all the recent controversy surrounding miley and that she has become well known now, that perhaps for mel, she wants to cash in on the tv business by doing aimed at black youngsters. i for one am not sure how this is going to turn out

I think we just have to wait and see how this turns out. It might turn out be a good show, or it might turn out to be a bad show. But we just don't know yet.

I think Nickelodeon should just stay out of the whole Hannah Montana Empire. That belongs to Disney, and they shouldn't make a show that's pretty much the same thing, just with a black lead. I've always found that Nickelodeon has had much better shows than Disney anyways.

seriously! i miss Taina. that was a good show. Nick needs to come with original ideas instead of copying Disney. face it! they will never be as popular as Disney/Mickey Mouse. you may quote me. i like the channel and all, but Disney has been around forever and a day. Nick has been around since what? the 80's? early 90's?
