View Full Version : A retrospective so early in the series!
Jude The Obscure 06-05-2008, 03:04 PM Why did the producers feel the need to do a retrospective so early in the series??
Of course, at Christmas time at that......which begs the question, were there any other Christmas episodes of DS?
(And this actually aired on NBC after Christmas, IIRC).
Pavan 06-05-2008, 03:06 PM Yes, there was another DS Christmas episode where that crook santa steals their gifts.
TVFactFan 06-05-2008, 03:24 PM yeah it was odd since at the time it was only 12 eps shown.

Do you know offhand what season that is? I want to be on the lookout for it.
I'm a sucker for Christmas episodes.

Jude The Obscure 06-06-2008, 12:12 AM Thanks, Pav!
70s show watcher 06-06-2008, 03:04 AM even as a 7 year old in 1978 i thought it was stupid to have a clip show that early in the run i remember in the 30 second promo the showed the part where kimberly says hey guys im trying to get my beutay sleep and for some reason i thought the ep was going to be about kimberly/dana sleeping

Cool! Thanks for the flashback. I was about one at the time so I can't remember that far back yet. LOL. I was looking at the episode today too and thinking to myself, "some of that stuff happened less than two months ago". It was too early. I wonder what the purpose was behind that. I think it would have been more effective had it been done at the end of the season or better yet, a few years from that time.
Jude The Obscure 06-07-2008, 09:35 AM When Drummond stated "it's been 56 days since you came to live with us"--it was like, big whoop.....if it would have been six months, maybe that was more acceptable. And the way he kept saying "I'll never forget the time" or "Rememember when you..."--Gee, it was only 56 days--not 56 years!!!
88survivor 06-07-2008, 03:04 PM I guess Drummond had amnesia all of a sudden. ;) You know, he is a little senile to care for three kids and be a stay at home father figure when he should have been working.
TVFactFan 06-07-2008, 07:55 PM and why was the christmas tree in the boys ROOM???

And at that point, were the boys officially adopted or was it pending?

No it was still peding because they were still calling him mr. D

That's what I thought. Can you imagine how silly that is to remember the last 56 days? I mean, it would have made more sense had the family received word that the adoption went through and the boys were now officially Mr. Drummond's sons, THEN, HAVE A RETROSPECTIVE of some sorts.

Yeah it was very silly, especially the christmas in their room
ThomasE 06-11-2008, 12:54 PM Guys, I can't even argue with that...the christmas in the bedroom and the fact that it hadn't even been two months since the they moved in. LOL. "Ahh, remember back to 17 days ago when...(flashback crossfades to 17 days ago). They could have waited until the end of the season.
Natalie1969 10-06-2010, 12:44 PM I totally agree with you guys-way too early in the series to do a retrospective. And a two parter at that?! Crazy. Those were eps 8 & 9 for petes sake. A retrospective of 7 episodes. If they had to do it why not just do one retro epy. What would have be cool was to incorporate the fact that this was the first Christmas without mama and deal with that. Maybe throw in a few flash backs. Maybe even have Kimberly and Mr. D remember Kimberly's mother. Also the boys could remember papa. It's like they can reflect on the past and then how things have changed since the boys moved in.
