seriously jude that's a lot of work to keep checking to see if the thread you started or posted in is active. That's was one of the benefits of email notification. It's just better to go to the TV land Boards if there is no email notification on this site.
Jude The Obscure 06-04-2008, 02:29 PM Well, don't let the doorknob hit ya when the Good Lord, split ya! :D
(ya know I'm gonna bust your chops, Sol )
Solomon man.. I can't do anything to fix this. It is out of my control. Use the new posts or today's active threads link at the top of the screen until it starts working again. There's no sense in whining about it constantly. You have no reason to be so dependent on it. It will work when it wants to work again. I'm sure it is only a temporary thing just like the ticker not working. I don't have an explanation how it is working on one day and not the next. Sorry if you are too lazy to use the new posts link. It's not like you are posting in 100 threads a day to see which ones are active. It's a minor inconvenience... not the end of the world.

Just will take some time to get use to, remember I been around this place for years. I think it only makes it difficult while I'm at work, at home it won't be such a big deal because I can bookmark the active threads page to my browser and just click on it to see the most active threads
You can also use this link to view your subscripitons.
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/subscription.php?do=viewsubscription
I know it's not the same as e-mail, but at least you can see the active threads you've posted in.
Pavan 06-04-2008, 03:12 PM I like the new posts link (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=346,417) is much better...this way you can see everything new and not miss a thing (Solomon needs to use this, because he misses a lot of threads and then complains he didn't see it).
E-mail notification is annoying to me, especially if you get a lot of emails like I do.
EmoJoe 06-04-2008, 03:22 PM i tried to use that once and all it did was clog my email inbox lol. havent tried it since. this was before the board upgrade so i dunno if it's been modified though.
Ireneparalegal 06-04-2008, 03:24 PM I don't understand Solomon how you can't rely on clicking on NEW POSTS or TODAY'S ACTIVE POSTS. This will show what threads have had activity. If you don't see yours there, then you know no one has posted on it.
Or you can easily go to the board where you posted a thread, such as the DS board and see all the active threads. Frankly, what an annoyance to subscribe to email notification. I don't need 300 emails telling me someone posted on a thread.
If I had a nickel for everytime Solomon has missed a topic because he doesn't use the new posts link and then complained about it afterwards, I'd be a millionaire. :) It's nice to be notified about everything, but sometimes you need to do some of the leg work on your own.
I see the ticker is now working again, so hopefully the e-mail notifications will be next.
Zoneboy 06-04-2008, 03:39 PM I don't know if Vbulletin boards work the same as others but a Forumer board that I belong to had the same problem a few months ago. Nobody there got e-mail notifications for a week or more and when it was finally restored, All topics that had been replied to from the time of the outage until the day it was fixed had notifications sent. My Hotmail alert was going off like crazy and I had over 300 messages to delete. For me, It's much more convenient to come here and click on the view new posts and today's active threads links than to sit and go through a bunch of e-mails.

I do use the active threads but never the new post link and i love seeing 15 emails from Sitcomsonline because that means the board is POPPING!!!!-LOL

You got to be kidding me. Man Solomon, you must have more time on your hands than anyone I know. Who wants to check their email box to see if the boards are active and see how many responses one gets on their threads? Either it gets responses or it doesn't. I can tell after ACTUALLY BEING ON THE BOARDS AND CLICKING NEW POSTS whether they are active or not. I just don't get it Sol. You mentioned this whole email notification before to me asking if I used it. I told you no. You asked how can I know what threads I posted on. I told you, "I use my memory." Again, if you click NEW POSTS or TODAY'S ACTIVE THREADS, eventually you will see if your thread has been posted on. If you don't see your thread there, it means no one posted on it. Simple.
TJ said you are lazy. I think it is more work to check one's emails to see how S.O. is doing.
Anybody getting notifications now? I've made some changes to the e-mail settings.

It's just a lot easier to use when i'm notfiied, that was the one thing that attracted me to this site when I first joined and never looked back.
TVFactFan 06-04-2008, 04:50 PM Anybody getting notifications now? I've made some changes to the e-mail settings.
yes, and whatever you just did write it down on a notepad so we won;t have to experience this again, thanks for the trouble shooting-lol
Hollow 06-04-2008, 07:40 PM man, i remember a few years back when i kind of posted death threats to whoever was at fault for my inbox being flooded with notifications of posts in a very active thread that i didn't care about and certainly didn't subscribe to or anything. that was brutal. i'd hate to have it happening all the time.
Ireneparalegal 06-04-2008, 07:43 PM yes, and whatever you just did write it down on a notepad so we won;t have to experience this again, thanks for the trouble shooting-lol
Take that advice to heart Solomon. Maybe if you wrote down what threads you made or posted on, you too can remember what threads to look at. ;)

But the only notifications in my box are the threads I care about-lol That's why it's a lot easier

Sorry I rather be notified-lol

I agree with you on this one, I like my email notification. I guess I am too lazy to look up every thread I have posted in
coffield3 06-04-2008, 10:38 PM I've never actually used it
PZelda 06-04-2008, 11:46 PM It amazes me that anyone can be that lazy. Oh wait... that's right, we'd find you under the definition for "lazy" in the dictionary. Oops, not surprised anymore.
I have never once, in my (almost) 6 years here, needed email notification. I could see it being useful for someone who doesn't check into SO very often. But seriously, Sol, you're here EVERY DAY. You don't NEED it.
While you're at it, you could upgrade to a REAL ISP. Seriously, who the hell uses Web TV anymore??
Stormtracker TF 06-04-2008, 11:55 PM One time I accidentally subscribed to a thread that was really, really active, and the next morning I woke up with like 500 emails. That was a disaster.
Needless to say I am NOT a big fan of this feature.
PunkyP0WER 06-04-2008, 11:59 PM webtv was the first internet i ever had. i thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, of course it was the days before my ipod and youtube. i do miss the remote control keyboard though. webtv will one day be talked about on one of those vh1 'i love the....decade" shows. actually i saw a commercial on vh1 tonight advertising an upcoming "i love the new millenium" series. lol so maybe it just will be

webtv (now msntv) was my first source to the internet as well. I liked it except for the dial-up connection. They're now available for high speed use which is good and I'm thinking about getting one to put in the spare bedroom rather than another PC.
PunkyP0WER 06-05-2008, 12:22 AM wow zoneboy i didn't know they went high speed. if we ever get more money coming in maybe i'd consider another go around with it as a spare to put in the den for a quick web fix. you know what's funny? i see webtvs at tag sales now for like $5.

The keyboards still sell fairly good on eBay but the terminals are just about obsolete.
OH Nuts! 06-05-2008, 12:44 AM I've never actually used it
Same here!

 i don't get it either. i have mobile alerts enabled for myspace even though i'm on there every day, but that's because i'd just like to know as soon as possible when i get a message, not that it would otherwise be like a bike without a seat. if i'm interested in whether a thread here has received more replies since i last saw it, i just check. i don't see how it's "a lot of work," i quote. if the thread title is bold, there are more replies. if not, there aren't.
Zoneboy 06-05-2008, 01:27 AM While you're at it, you could upgrade to a REAL ISP. Seriously, who the hell uses Web TV anymore??
Alot of people since they're now high speed compatible. I like my PC but the latest msntv units are nice and offer the convenience of a wireless keyboard use which is good if you just want to sit on the couch all day. The only disadvantge with msntv is that you cannot download anything with it but unlike a PC, it cannot be hit with a virus.
PunkyP0WER 06-05-2008, 01:40 AM i used to have my webtv in my bedroom, i'd just sit up in bed with the wireless keyboard on my lap and when i got tired all i had to do was place it on my nightstand and with a touch of the remote settle into the evening news as i dozed off to sleep.it was neat cause my webtv had the picture in picture feature. i even had the keyboard with the keys that glowed in the dark. wow i never thought i'd miss webtv so much!

Yes msntv2 is so much better than webtv. you can upload pics, it's faster, and it's still the same price every month-lol
BTW: i would still have webtv if a thunderstorm didn't damge my box in 2005, i was forced to get msntv2-lol
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 06-05-2008, 05:08 PM I've never bothered to use it...I don't find it hard to just remember what thread I posted in, it's not like I post in a million at a time. I use it for facebook and myspace, though, just because it kind of did it on it's own lol...when I think about it I really don't need it, but oh well.
