When I was a kid and I watched "My Three Sons" on Nick at Nite, William Frawley was Bub to me. I knew he was also on "I Love Lucy", but I knew him best as Bub O'Casey. Now, I've seen "I Love Lucy" so much over the years, that it will be strange seeing William Frawley on "My Three Sons." I'll think of him as Fred Mertz for a while.

This is all assuming I ever see "My Three Sons" again. You hear that Paramount! Release it already!

I just thought it was worth mentioning. I was thinking of this the other day when I was watching "I Love Lucy" on DVD and I had forgotten that Fred Mertz goes on to play Bub!

That's where I was introduced to him as Bub O'Casey, he seemed to fit right in as the Grandfather. Mr. Frawley was also in Huckleberry Finn, the version with Mickey Rooney which I highly recommend seeing.

Adam when you see My Three Sons again I think you will be more impressed with it now as an adult.

There are several actors and actress who have played two or more popular roles and I do tend to see them as one more than the other...

Don Knotts will always be Mr. Furley to me. Hell, he's actually the incredible Mr. Limpet to me before he's Barney Fife. Bea Arthur will always be Dorothy Zbornak to me before she's Maude Findlay. Mary Tyler Moore is Mary Richards before she's Laura Petrie. Michael Landon is Charle Ingalls, then Jonathan Smith, then Little Joe Cartwright. For a while, Robert Young was Jim Anderson to me, but I watched enough reruns of him as Marcus Welby in syndication that he's now automatically Dr. Welby to me. Actually, if I see him in black and white, he's still Jim, and if I see him in color, he's Dr. Welby.

Oh, and Larry Hagman used to be Tony Nelson before he was JR Ewing to me years ago, but I sometimes forget that he was IDOJ now, LOL.

I have never seen My Three Sons before (which is surprising), so William Frawley is and always will be Fred Mertz to me. I don't think I could even picture him doing anything else.

And I liked the point about Don Knotts, JT. He'll always be Mr. Furely to me as well. I really don't like TAGS, and I just find him a whole lot funnier and memorable on Three's Company.

William Frawley was also in the original Miracle on 34th St. movie as the friend of the judge.

Then one day out of the blue I see Frawley with the Douglas family and I'm like WTF Fred? Who the hell is Bub? How does he fit in? How does he leave? How does Uncle Charlie come in? When the hell is someone inventing the internet so I can find this stuff out?

You lucky kids of today can get an answer to questions like this in 2 seconds- literally.

Back then you'd have to ask all around (actually ask people) or wait until you fortuitously caught an episode that answered your questions. It was rough I tell you.

We also had to walk 20 miles to school everyday. Uphills.

Before we got the internet at our house, I used to have to do the same thing, LOL. Once, I bought this big box of Nick at Nite trivia cards from a store and I swear, there was so much stuff that I learned from those cards. It was the first time I had ever heard of "Alice" and I thought it was about the Brady Bunch's Alice.

And don't get me started on the days when every single time a show came to Nick at Nite, I had *never* ever heard of it before and it was something completely new to me. The only shows I had probably heard of before they joined NAN at that time were "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "The Brady Bunch." Anything else, though, up to about 2000, when "The Facts of Life" and "Three's Company" came, it was all new to me.
