OMG, IT DID!!!!! I couldn't believe how many people were there at the ampitheater last night, the place was packed!!!! People were all standing up and singing along to Maiden songs, they just came out and blew the place away!!! They had a very theatrical stage set, they brought back the Egyptian
"Powerslave" set from their majorly successful 1984/85 tour, with big giant ramps and huge backdrops. Tons of explosions, lights, but this did not distract at all that the band played excellent MUSIC, the set design was to give a sense of drama to their songs. They told stories in their lyrics and did epic songs full of amazing guitar work. One of the big highlights of the show was when they did "Rime Of the Ancient Mariner", their 13-minute centerpiece from the Powerslave album. That was completely mind-blowing!!
Bruce Dickinson sang so well, and he was quite a showman as well. He even put on this trippy bird-mask during one song (the Egyptians had a big thing about falcons and other birds), it was too much fun!!! Steve Harris' bass was thundering, he's an amazing bassist. Both Dave Murray's and Adrian Smith's guitar work was phenomenal, very fluid soloing, and Janick Gers looked like the total showman of the band's three guitarists, he was spinning around his guitar, propping his leg on an amp, keeping more of a rhythm playing going on, but during "Hallowed Be Thy Name" he let loose with a killer solo. Nicko McBrain had a huge drumkit, and without the video screens on either side of the stage, you wouldn't have been able to see much of him. The concert was a total blast!!!!

Nice!!! My brother drove up from Raleigh, NC to see them in Holmdel, NJ a couple weeks ago!! The things some fans will do....I flew down from Seattle to see them play in Irvine, California, two years ago! Maiden is definitely one of the bands worth travelling out of the way to go see!
