View Full Version : IT'S ALIVE
Chelsea 06-02-2008, 05:09 AM After a rather lengthy and grueling outage, the site appears to be back up as of 5 AM ET. Whew!
Expect a more exhaustive timeline of what the heck happened later. If the site is still sluggish, it's related.
Stormtracker TF 06-02-2008, 05:15 AM SO, YOU SURVIVED THE EXPLOSION!!!
I never thought I could miss this site as much as I have the past 2 days.

OH Nuts! 06-02-2008, 06:11 AM Glad the site's back! And while I'm at it, a very big thank you to you Seth, and TJ, for all the hard work you do making this site happen.
PZelda 06-02-2008, 06:24 AM Thank god. I was wondering what the hell happened.
Doesn't help that another board I also frequent is down, as well. It's not vBulletin; it's Proboards. UGH!
EDIT: Oh lord...
There was a fire at Proboards' hosting service. While it appears no servers were damaged, the resultant power outage knocked down around 9,000 servers housed there. This is a temporary board where we can chat and keep in touch while repairs are being made. Once they are finished, this board and all threads will go away, and the original will be restored in its place.
Proboards is adamant that no data has been lost, and that all affected boards will be restored as soon as they can. Please be patient!
Poor vBulletin and poor Proboards!
The boards were certainly very peaceful over the last 36 hours.
The Sitcoms Online server is located in Houston, TX where there was an explosion and fire at around 6:45PM Saturday night. Over 9,000 servers and 700,000 sites were estimated to be knocked offline.
Thakfully, no one was injured and none of the servers were physically damaged. Power was restored early Monday morning.

PZelda 06-02-2008, 08:57 AM Uh-oh. I wonder, is Proboards also located in Houston? That'd explain it. Glad to hear that nobody was hurt and that none of the servers were damaged.
Cactus Jack 06-02-2008, 10:21 AM YAY ITS BACK!!!!
And Seth told me all what happened too
Pavan 06-02-2008, 10:53 AM The great sitcom fire! So many shows came back from after a fire, Happy Days, Family Matters, and now Sitcoms Online! I guess we have a new look like Arnold's did on Happy Days after the fire.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 06-02-2008, 11:00 AM Is everyone okay? Are firefighters still searching the rubble because I can't find Joe...I CAN'T FIND JOE.
jk...I'm glad it's back, though, I felt lost in my check facebook check SO routine everytime I get on the computer.

James 06-02-2008, 12:52 PM http://service-update.theplanet.com/
I checked this site out to see the cause. In this post-9/11 world I'm glad it was just a transformer catching fire and not foul play.

So glad things are back to normal
I didn't know what to do with myself the last few days. I spent the entire weekend talking to my roommate about TV shows.
He hates it when I talk to him.
;)
Adamantium 06-02-2008, 06:47 PM I believed it was just my computer that was messed up. I kept thinking "I finally return to S.O. and now I can't get back on!" I imagined everyone still here just chatting away, and me, on the outside trying to get in but was unable to, lol.
I was frustrated. I'm relieved that it's back and now that I'm finding out what was happening, I'm glad everybody's okay.
This weekend, I spent a lot of time back at imdb as well as HTF. But I really wanted to be here.

Ireneparalegal 06-02-2008, 06:59 PM After getting several emails from members I decided to email TJ.
Thanx for the quick response TJ. And great to have this place back.
Adamantium 06-02-2008, 07:11 PM I think we should have a back up S.O. just in case something like this happens again, lol. We'd all meet somewhere else and continue our sitcoms discussions. :)
Someone, get on that immediately. ;)
PZelda 06-02-2008, 08:19 PM same here, i was about to text allison and ask if it was working for her. glad i suddenly got occupied with other stuff around the time it went down though.
Haha, I texted Courtnee to ask her if SO was working for her the other day... she wasn't at home so she couldn't check immediately.

I definitely missed this place and everyone here!
I also realized how completely addicted I am :p
Sharop 06-03-2008, 12:42 PM This place is a bit like Cheers isn't it? A friendly place where everyone knows everyone's name.
I must say, I've always thought of SO as a very light-hearted website, even when there have been furious fights rampaging.
Scoobiedoo30 06-03-2008, 12:53 PM I know I throught They Shurt down to when I could not get online with www.sitcomsonline.com as well
The Sitcoms Online server is located in Houston, TX

Dude111 03-16-2024, 01:22 AM I dont think so... Todd got lied to by the host,,,, They said they were gonna give us a better deal but it is much worse....... The site is slow most times.etc....
I know Todd feels frusterated,he doesnt know what to do!!

Our host has a mailing address in Burbank, California. I would guess our server is physically located somewhere in California.
