So someone just send me a email when season 3 starts again-lol Shame that season 8 was so short, ABC could have stuck with the show one more year since they were willing to pick it up in the first place

What a sorry ending, I think that was the worst series finale ever LOL. I know the cast wasn't told that, that would be the last episode.

Doesn't even count as a series finale! There was no Kimberly, no Willis, not even Maggie!

Heck the episode before it played better than that one. One wonders if there was a season 9, if Lisa and Arnold would have been a couple.

Of course I'm too young to remember, but was there any warning that the show was coming to it's end. Because the way it ended it seemed as if there were more episodes to follow. It's like they were cancelled like The Jeffersons

I wonder, since this season had only 19 episodes, and all of the NBC seasons had 24, if there were more episodes made for the season, including a finale, that just never aired. Although I'm sure the cast or crew would have come forward to say if there are "lost" shows.

A majority of tv sitcoms film the remainder of their season episodes two months before they air. So there is no possibility of any more episodes having been filmed.

I agree with Jude..."The Photo Club" was way better than "The Front Page". Both episodes were good and all, but still. It would've been interesting if Arnold and Lisa became a couple. I'm surprised ABC didn't rush a real final episode, if the ratings were as bad as they claimed they were.

Now that they're back to season 1, I gotta set myself a constant reminder until BET gets to "The Athlete" from season 3 again, and another one for "Memories" from season 5. I doubt BET will show "Bulimia", unless they renew the show...and right now, that would be the smart thing to do. The show gets good ratings, and if BET were to find a "suitable" replacement for the 9-10 AM and 3-4 PM timeslots, it'll be a tough act to follow.

I guess a complete series minus 1 episode (or 3, at the moment) is better than having the first 2 seasons only, and missing the other 6.

So you're saying that, if there were extra episodes, they would have been filmed in January-February (the last episode aired in March)?

Most likely.

When we had the recent writer's strike, as soon as it was over, the shows began filming their episodes and they were shown shortly after that.

It also seemed odd to me that the final episode aired in March instead of May. Made me think that there were more episodes scheduled to air through May before the cancellation came.

Unless the show wasn't doing too good in the ratings and they had an abbreviated season.

It's still a shame that the producers didn't think to come up with a series finale. Surely, they had an idea what the ratings were like and should have made that decision by January.

You said it Jude. I mean, this was not a short-lived show. It had a following and like the Jeffersons, it was ratings winner. For one network to pick it up after another had dropped it, speaks volumes abt how much the show was valued and looked upon.

CBS never allowed The Jeffersons to say goodbye, neither Archie Bunker.

Although on The Jeffersons, the penultimate episode plays more like a series finale in story--Jenny and Lionel finalize their divorce and Jessica is depressed, but in the end, she realizes she is loved regardless and the episode ends with a shot of the cast together with Jessica intoning--This is what a family looks like, one made from love. Sweet, if not exactly what one would look for in a series finale (which it wasn't but might as well be).

The cast of the Jeffersons did not even know of the show being canceled. It was in the papers before the cast knew. How sad and cruel is that?

I think it's just a slap in the face when Networks treat shows that way. All of the money that they have made from a show and then they just cut the lights out as if the tvshow and the cast didn't mean anything.

So I take it that most of you didn't really care for the first two seasons? It's refreshing to know I'm not the only one. I remembered the show from when TNT aired it (I think it was them) and I had really fond memories of it. But then when I bought seasons one and two on DVD, something just didn't feel right about the show anymore--- what was once there when I was watching the re-runs was no longer there. I can't explain what--- the magic just wasn't there for the first couple of years. I believe Pavan said in his review for Season Two that the show didn't really strike a chord with him until season three as well. I loved Mrs. Garrett from her first appearance on DIFF'RENT STROKES, but she also didn't really hit the ground running. It took her time. Around the beginning of season three of THE FACTS OF LIFE, Charlotte Rae really found the essence of "Mrs G." It seems like three is the magic number for these shows! Most of the episodes I can remember watching on TNT were the later ones with Mary Jo Catlett and the two actresses who played Maggie. That would explain why the chemistry was there for me on the TNT showings and not on the DVDs (because the rest of the series is being held back from us!) Great series with complex and intriguing characters need time to "find themselves" (by this I mean the actor discovering who he or she is playing). The characters on DIFF'RENT STROKES and THE FACTS OF LIFE were definately not one-dimensional; their portrayers just needed a couple of seasons to adjust to their new "personas" before they really impacted the audience.

That's not to say that the first couple of years don't have their moments. I love the spanking episode as well as the one with the "fort" when Mrs. Garrett joins Arnold at the end of the episode to play with him to show him that he's not alone on his indoors camping adventure. I was also deeply touched by when Arnold couldn't share the same hospital room with his newfound best friend just because they were different colors and her father would let his daughter have anything to do with a black person; as well as the episode when Arnold and Willis are officially adopted.

It's one reason why Carrol O'Connor didn't want to go back to series TV (at first), if CBS was the network. Did ya know though, later, he wanted to revive the Archie character, but Norman Lear put the kibosh on it?

The addition of Sam was similar to what the Cosby Show did when they brought in Olivia. :ohno:

Watching the later episodes after years of not seeing them, I realize that I don't mind Sam. It's Maggie I didn't like
