According to tsod several of the major studios are licensing out their series: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Site-News-Stalled-Series-Hope/9723

I wonder which studios and which series? I'm not getting my hopes up, but I would love to see more Gimme A Break, Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons just to name a few.

I don't think it will be that many Sony series. They are slow, but I can't see them abandoning Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life and Silver Spoons. I think Universal might give Leave it to Beaver to a smaller studio like MPI. I could see Gimme A Break going to Arts Alliance America.

I would love it if Fox were to get rid of some of the MTM library that they have, b/c they don't seem to be in any rush to finish those off. But we'll just have to wait and see. :)

I hope Facts Of Life is factored in there somewhere!

Kate & Allie would be good, but Canada has been doing a fine job of continuing that one.

Growing Pains perhaps?

Oh, if only... everyone seems to think no one will want to release more Gimme a Break! seasons. Arts Alliance responded to an e-mail by saying they are not planning to license Gimme a Break! If anyone does, I hope they pick it up from Season 3 onwards. Otherwise, they are setting it up for low sales since most people have purchased VEI's Season 2 from Canada.

Yeah, Facts is one of Sony's most-requested shows. Maybe they don't know about the demand.

As for Kate & Allie, it's supposed to come out in September/October. And there's only one more season to go. It's the first series I will have completed in a very long time. Looking forward to finally having a complete set of something. :)

I think if enough people email them they might consider releasing it. Maybe after they're done with Charles in Charge. That's obviously doing well for them.
I don't think season 2 would necessarily sell poorly in the US. I think if it was carried in enough places and visible in stores, casual fans who don't even know season 2 is out already in Canada might just buy it. I think whoever releases it would do themselves a favor by releasing seasons two and three together.
Although Arts Alliance says they have no plans at the moment, who knows, maybe someone else like Shout! might surprise us. I can dream

I think Warner may sell a lot of their library to smaller studios. They're almost as bad as Sony when it comes to abandoning series. Murphy Brown, Night Court, Drew Carey Show, Whose Line?, Fresh Prince, Growing Pains, Living Single, Wayans Bros., and What I Like About You are just a few that they don't seem to want to release. Plus shows like Family Matters, Step by Step, and Alice, which they haven't even released a season set of yet. I could definitely see them selling Murphy Brown, Night Court, and Growing Pains to smaller companies like MPI, Shout!, or First Look, since those were bigger shows, and would probably do well for smaller companies. Same goes for Drew Carey, and Fresh Prince, although I'm not sure what they're doing with that.

You can add the beloved series "Life Goes On" to the abandoned Warner series, even when they went to the trouble of creating a whole new theme song for season one when terms could not be reached to use the beatles cover song that was originally the series theme.

And Jaime Foxx and George Lopez, which seem to be abandoned as well. Hopefully Warner will sell off some of those!

I dunno, Sony doesn't seem too interested in Strokes, Facts or Spoons. Those are some shows that I'd especially like to see get licensed out for frequent releases, as opposed to one season every two or three years from Sony. Ditto for Who's the Boss? and some other shows...

Gimme a Break going to Arts Alliance America or another small company could be a bit tricky, as two other companies have already released the show on DVD and were apparently unhappy with the sales. I'd like to have that series complete on DVD as well... we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I hope you're right, but from what I've recently heard, they are the company that is still very reluctant to license stuff out... which sucks, because they have abandoned quite a bit of shows. (not to mention there are plenty of great shows they haven't even started yet...)

I read that too . . . I don't really get them, because they have tons of shows that I can almost say for sure that smaller companies would die to have. Either they need to start releasing them, or just sell them.

I hope the release the final 2 seasons of REBA.
I would also like to see Mama's Family finished.
I actually sold the First Season set I had because I lost hope.

Not to be rude, but why would you sell season 1, just because you lost hope for more seasons? I have tons of first season sets that are "abandoned," but I'd never sell them - I still watch them anyways.

I can understand that. Many people like that. I, on the other hand, just take whatever I can get of a show. I have way too many season 1 sets, but only a few of those shows made it to a season 2, which is very sad.

I hope this announcement means there is a chance we will finally see seasons 3 and 4 of The Partridge Family!!
