Channel 7 is the #1 TV Station in New York and the Nation in the May 2008 Nielsen Sweep

"Eyewitness News" Continues to Win Every News Race (5am, 6am, 12pm, 5pm, 6pm and 11pm) by a Wide Margin

NEW YORK, May 22 -- WABC-TV is New York's most watched broadcast station in both Households and Adults 25-54 for the 42nd consecutive ratings survey period, delivering a 3.6 rating/10 share in DMA Households, Monday-Sunday Sign-On to Sign-Off in Nielsen's May 2008 sweep, providing WABC-TV with a 50% advantage over its nearest competitor. With each rating point representing 73,920 Tri-State area TV households, Channel 7 continues to attract a larger audience than any other television station in the country.

WABC-TV leads the market in news broadcasts throughout the entire day,
beginning with the early morning news race. At 5am, WABC-TV's "Eyewitness
News This Morning" with Lori Stokes, Ken Rosato and Bill Evans boasts a DMA
Household rating that is more than any two competitors combined. At 6am,
WABC-TV tops its closest competitor (WNBC-TV) by 23% in DMA Households.

"Eyewitness News This Morning" is equally dominant among Adults 25-54,
where both its 5am and 6am editions deliver more viewers than any two
competitors combined.

At Noon, "Eyewitness News" with Lori Stokes, Ken Rosato and Bill Evans
is more than double its competition on WCBS-TV in DMA Households, and draws more than twice as many Women 25-54 viewers.

WABC-TV's "Eyewitness News at 5pm" with Diana Williams, Sade Baderinwa
and Lee Goldberg, outdelivers 2nd-place WCBS-TV by 60% in DMA Households. WABC-TV's rating among Adults 25-54 is higher than the combined deliveries of WCBS-TV's "CBS2 News at 5," WNYW-TV's "Fox News at 5" and WNBC-TV's "NewsChannel 4 at 5."

"Eyewitness News" maintains its domination at 6pm with the Mon-Fri
"Eyewitness News at 6pm" with Bill Ritter, Liz Cho, Lee Goldberg and Scott
Clark. WABC-TV has more than double the DMA Household rating of its closest
competitor, "CBS2 News at 6pm." Among Adults 25-54, WABC-TV delivers a
higher rating than the combined 6pm newscast deliveries of WCBS-TV, WNBC-TV and WNYW-TV. May 2008 marks the 53rd consecutive ratings survey period that WABC-TV has finished an outright #1 in DMA Households among local M-F 6pm newscasts.

The Mon-Fri "Eyewitness News at 11pm" featuring Bill Ritter, Liz Cho,
Lee Goldberg and Scott Clark completes the overall weekday victory for
WABC-TV's "Eyewitness News" franchise. WABC-TV wins the 11pm Late News race in DMA Households, topping both WCBS-TV & WNBC-TV by 25%. WABC-TV is also #1 among Adults 25-54, topping WNYW-TV by 12%.

On weekend mornings, "Eyewitness News" with Michelle Charlesworth, Phil
Lipof, Jeff Smith and Jessica Taff delivers the key Adult 25-54 demographic
better than any of its competitors. On Saturday and Sunday mornings,
WABC-TV's newscasts collectively average a 1.1 rating among Adults 25-54,
which is 57% greater than WNBC-TV's newscasts and 175% more than WCBS-TV's local newscasts.

At 11pm on Saturday and Sunday nights, "Eyewitness News at 11pm,"
featuring Joe Torres, Sandra Bookman, Heidi Jones and Marvell Scott,
continues the dominance that WABC-TV's "Eyewitness News" demonstrates on
weekdays. WABC-TV outdelivers 2nd-place WNBC-TV by 14% in DMA Households and by 53% among Adults 25-54 on weekend nights.

On Mon-Fri 6:30-7pm, "ABC's World News" with Charles Gibson holds a
commanding lead over its network news competitors, with a DMA Household
rating that is more than the combined deliveries of WNBC-TV's "NBC Nightly
News" and WCBS-TV's "CBS Evening News."

In Primetime, WABC-TV ranks #1 in DMA Households and Adults 25-54.
Among Adults 25-54, WABC-TV boasts five of the top ten programs in the
market in the May 2008 sweep.

In the daytime hours, "Live with Regis and Kelly" joins WABC-TV's
syndicated programs "Rachael Ray", "Millionaire", "Oprah", "Jeopardy" and
"Wheel of Fortune" in continuing to be the #1 programs in their respective
time periods in Households and most key demographics, including Adults and
Women 25-54.

WABC-TV, Channel 7, is the ABC, Inc., Owned Television Station in New
York City.

WABC 7 Slogan should be New York City News Leader

This is interesting information. What site did you get it from? I'm looking for results for the Hartford/New Haven DMA (I believe it's #28 or 29).

Pavan

WABC sends out the press releases for each sweep month (they win each month). Not sure if the Hartford market actually sends out a press release on their sweep ratings.

I'm in the NYC market. The bumper says "Number 1 in New York and the most watched station in the nation." It's about 5 seconds.

I am glad that WABC7 is The Number 1 Network in New York City The reason why I said WABC7 should be New York News Leader is because 4WWL is Louisiana News Leader

It's a lie though CBS and FOX are

Pavan

It's not a lie. Fox won the season 'nationally' for PRIMETIME in viewers and 18-49. CBS was second in primetime in HH/viewers, while ABC was second in 18-49 for the season in PRIMETIME. I'm talking about WABC in NY...not ABC. WABC in NY is #1 in NY in everything, including primetime. Since NY is the #1 market, they have the most households/viewers, that is why they are #1 in the nation for TOTAL DAY (6am-2am). Thus, that is why it is #1 in the nation.

WABC is very strong...they have clearly the highest rated news in every hour by a wide margin (see the stats above for May) and the top syndicated programming (Regis, Oprah, Wheel, Jeopardy, etc).

WVUE-FOX8 is the number 2 station here in Louisiana but we also have Strong Programming like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Nationally is what matters and FOX won it.

This thread is about WABC. See the first post. I always post NY sweep ratings each sweep period. WABC is the most watched local 'station' in the country, there is no denying that. I didn't say network. The definition of network is all the local stations put together.

I know Fox won the season in primetime nationally (I stated that)...but this is a NY thread. You're saying it is a lie, but it isn't. I was justifying.

That's because WWL is owned by Belo Corp. of Dallas, TX and uses KPIX's new Battery V.4 "Always Worth Your Time". KHOU-TV 11 Houston, KING 5/KONG-TV 16 in Seattle and KGW 8 in Portland are also Belo affiliates as well in their respective markets.
