Earle Hagen, the composer of the theme songs for The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Andy Griffith show among others, died today at age 88. He was one of the greats of television music and will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

Earle was a great and kind man - and one heck of a golfer in addition to his gifts as a composer. It's Earle doing the whistling on his theme for The Andy Griffith Show and his range of musical talent was unexcelled.

Lucky heaven.

He wrote a book called "Scoring for Film" which is a handbook for film/TV composers.
