Sorry I confused some of you. It's NOT 3 # 1 songs, it's 3 # 1 THINGS Ricky had in 1958. So here's the answers:
1. He had a # 1 song, can't remember at the moment which one
2. He was in the #1 movie of that year, Rio Bravo
3. H was on the # 1 tv show of that year, the Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet
Jude The Obscure 07-08-2008, 03:19 PM Uh, not to debate you, but Ozzie and Harriet was NEVER #1 in the Nielsen ratings for TV shows.
honeybea 07-08-2008, 05:26 PM My information came from a biography I read years ago, and Ricky Nelson trivia, not internet search. I believe both to be true, but if you disagree, so be it.
Janine the Dream 07-08-2008, 05:38 PM Jude is right, the best the show ever did was between 25-30 in the ratings. Part of the reason was that ABC did not have affiliates in a great many locations which hurt their shows.
ILUVO&H 07-08-2008, 06:11 PM Maybe O&H was the number show on ABC that year???
That's a shame ABC wasn't seen in a lot of locations back then. Maybe it would have recieved more respect then and now.

Janine the Dream 07-09-2008, 08:29 AM Not trying to be wise or anything, but O&H was never the number one show on the ABC Network. Rick's singing did give the show a boost in the late fifties and early sixties, but O&H was never a great ratings success.
ILUVO&H 07-09-2008, 09:31 PM Well then, I guess The Nelson Family did pretty well, on Radio and Tv for a combined 22 years and never being number 1 or anywhere near it.
Guess there is something to be said for flying under the radar.
Nowadays, they cancel everything at a drop of a hat. One episode and they pull a show.
Or if a show is to popular they try to overplay it and make the audience that loves it come to hate it.
TV just can't let anything be just what it is anymore. They think they need to many bells and whistles. Laid back Ozzie can't just putter around the yard anymore and worry about how to get out of attending a Women's Club rummage sale and go Bowling instead.
Now on sitcoms all the parents act like over grown teenagers that never grew up.
sorry, I'll get off my soap box now lol
Janine the Dream 07-10-2008, 08:44 AM You are right, O&H was a laid back show about family life. They must have been doing something right to be on 14 seasons! Many of their episodes are considered classics and I find watching them to be quite relaxing.

Well, I for one, totally agree with you. Shows today are always trying to milk everything and anything for what its worth. My particular pet peeve are the precoscious and oversexed kids. Kinda creepy if you ask me. I love the style and tone of O&H - and will gladly take it over the majority of current fare-must of which seems like junk to me.
