Anyone know why Gary missed a few episodes in season 7? Was he ill again at this point?

Seeing DS without Arnold--wow, the series really dragged down.

Although they beefed up Willis' role--but sad, it took Gary not being there for it happen.

He was in for the kidney thing. You can see the change on his face in Sam's New Pal.

That's Right Pav! He did look different. I even remember the Jet magazine cover with Gary on the front cover and the article was talking about his career and kidney surgery.

Yeah I noticed his cheeks were really swollen in that episode, I had a feeling it was medical related.

My mother threw out every Jet Magazine starting from 1974 into the 1990's. I am still devastated. Solomon, you would be disappointed.

Judge Mablean is one of my heroes.

TVGuide featured Diff'rent Strokes 5 times on their cover. They either had Gary, Gary with Todd, Gary with Nancy Reagan, etc.

Here is another cover from 1983:

So Gary missed three episodes in S7, right? I think he missed a few in season four, too...anyone know the count for that?

I'm thinking that it was all health related. I remember hearing that often he was in pain on the set and that he had to lay down A LOT.

The Season 4 absences had to do with a contract dispute with NBC

One Season in American Television, Marc eliot. 1982

It was definitely contract related. Tootie was in there to fill the void and then Arnold tag scenes were thrown in later in some episodes.

I feel bad for Gary Coleman. Young kid with big health problems and then getting ripped off by his own parents. That's a lot to handle, and he obviously hasn't handled it well. I just think it's a sad story. I hope he gets a handle on his bitterness one day and finds inner peace.
