Over at The Odd Couple board, there's a thread on music edits.. Seems cuts have been made in those DVD sets, particularly season three.. Resulting in loss lines and abrupt jumps to the next scene.

Seems WKRP isn't the only victim of a studio not willing to pay for music rights.. Bummer!!

yea; that's a shame that some copyright holders are so greedy!!

For this show; I read that they had a problem getting music rights for the songs; back when the show was made. But they got around it by doing the show on tape instead of film.

My understanding is with those series produced before DVD or digital distribution is the contracts never accounted for royalties to artist on new mediums. So for example, MTV can play the original shows (like Daria or Beavis & Butt-head) with content intact, but when it goes to DVD they need to renegotiate with the artists. So a show like the Wonder Years, WKRP in Cincinnati, or Married with Children can keep their content on television.
