View Full Version : Mama's Family DVD Uncut -COULD IT BE??
Meade 05-14-2008, 09:12 PM I did a google for Mama's Family and found this:
http://www.dvdmediastar.com/product.php?productid=122452
It says its 130 uncut episodes on dvd. Its pretty high expensive, but actually for a full length of the seires, not so bad. Anyways, I havent heard about any official release, so I dont know if this is the REAL DEAL or not....
Sterling Holobyte 05-14-2008, 10:22 PM I don't know, Meade. If is sounds too good to be true... you know?!
I was given a gift of all the episodes of Get A Life, and the quality was terrible. Course that was from someone off of Ebay.
But if you want to get it and see, who knows, it could be alright quality. I would want a little more information about the company, and reviews of their service, before I buy from them, though.
Scary part is you can only reach them through their own little mail thingy. No phone; no address; nothing else.
Boy, I would sure like it to be true though.

Well thats true. I was thinking since it was from a company, and not individual seller, it could be not just someone taped something and slapped it on a dvd.
But then again- sometimes individual sellers are more trusthworthy. I dont know. Well its only 80$ which is a lot, but not like 200$ or something. So I may get it and see.... Hmmmm..
Better than nothing.
I only have Season 1 DVD and then a few episodes on VHS tapes.
The only uncut episode I was ever able to find was "Vint & The Kids Move In" from NBC which was recorded in January of 1983. It had about 2 original commercials and the rest were paused out apparently.
tazz765 05-14-2008, 11:09 PM Those are bootlegs. This company operates under various different names and I read on other forums that people either received nothing at all or very poor quality copies of shows recorded off of TV. They just say they are uncut in order to get people's money, but chances are they come taped from ION or TBS. If a DVD set isn't listed on the official companies website chances are very slim of it being official.
ultimateggfan 06-03-2008, 09:14 PM I work as an intern for the curatorial department at the Paley Center for Media in NYC. Some of my colleagues and I are trying to contact John Hamilton (Joe Hamilton's son) to see if the company would be willing to donate some of the original, uncut episodes to the museum's collection. We are trying to find a way to contact him. Nothing is for certain, but if anything happens, I will keep you posted--promise :)
PunkyP0WER 06-03-2008, 09:43 PM i did buy uncut episodes of the relatively obscure show Nurses (golden girls/empty nest spinoff that ran from 91-94) and i know the episodes were uncut because they were the original nbc airings from its initial run. the quality for the majority of episodes was 7or 8 out of 10 with only a few being of slightly lower quality. of course they were bootleg but they had professional artwork on the discs with only 4 episodes per disc for the best quality. i doubt mama's family will be on there uncut but many other shows are on sell.com or ioffer.com (my personal favorite). they have good prices, most series cost just $30 or under and they have a feedback system similar to ebay so its almost fool proof. so far i've bought night court, clarissa explains it all and nurses.
stevea 06-05-2008, 04:07 PM These uncuts are indeed poor. The bootleg Silver Spoons episodes that circulate: yeah, probably 3/4 of the episodes are from somebody's tape of the NBC showings, but you're getting (I'd guess) somebody's DVD recording at slowest speed, of somebody's VHS or Beta tape at slowest speed. With so much compression you get audio down in the mud, and video which freezes occasionally, not to mention the tape artifacts. You'd think if somebody had access to the episodes, they'd buy some extra DVD's and at least make it halfway worthwhile. Same thing happens on other series, like the New Leave it to Beaver. Bottom line: don't bother--these bootlegs aren't worth it.
When I want to archive a series for personal use, I buy the DVD's needed (they aren't THAT expensive!) and put 4 to 6 episodes (whatever fits on SP speed) per DVD.
Meade 06-14-2008, 11:43 PM I know a lot of people will disagree with me- but I actually prefer VHS to DVDs. They dont skip , and you can fast forward through the previews.

To me the only advantage of DVD is that they're smaller and easier to store.
