TVFactFan 05-14-2008, 06:31 PM Damm, she defintely wore the pants in the family, She moves in and tell Mr. Drummond to move Willis in Pearl's room and for Pearl to stay at her mothers-lol
Then she makes the Family go to Church. Damm, couldn't phil be a MAN??-lol Now I know why I don't like the SAM ERA!!!!!!!!!!!

Jude The Obscure 05-14-2008, 06:53 PM No, jellyfish isn't the word Sol.....he was p****-whipped
I tell you, Dixie Carter has a way of playing these big shouldered Southern broads--first on "Filthy Rich", then this, then on "Designing Women".

Yeah I guess that too-lol
GARFIELDKOOL 05-14-2008, 06:58 PM MAGGIE WAS A BITCH! She didn't like Arnold, she let that be known in the bed wetting episode, she only married Phil for his money. She was a bitch to him when they first met! Drummond was a sucker for love, and would have been better off staying single! I liked Mary Ann Mobley better than Dixie Carter!

Kool, you always have more guts than me
That's one reason I'm looking forward to the ABC/Mobley episodes, so I can finally see how her Maggie acted.

I think that Maggie was more DELICATE-lol

She wasn't as controlling as Dixie. She seemed like she got into Phil a little more than Dixie.
willjarmon 05-15-2008, 10:21 AM Maggie '84 was totally different than Maggie '85 Dixie was kinda gruff like where Mary Ann was kinder and gentler and acted as a mother you see this to be true in Willis Goes To College
Jude The Obscure 05-15-2008, 11:25 AM I know Dixie Carter stated in interviews that she was not comfortable playing the part of a mother on TV--one reason she left DS. (and I'm sure the opportunity to work with Linda Bloodworth Thomson was more attractive on Designing Women)
KurtfromPitts 05-17-2008, 12:46 PM These posts make me wish that Phillip would slap Maggie. But then, he was probably afraid that Maggie would walk out on him.

Phil kind of reminds me of myself in regards to dating-lol Seeing that he is not getting any younger he willing to accept a lot of things that he would not have if he was 20 years younger-lol So you are probably right he probably felt like if he was to do something like put maggie in her place she would leave and he knew that since this was probably his last shot at love then he was not bothered by her bosy personality
RUDOLPH LYRICS 05-17-2008, 03:36 PM man i hated the way she just ran dude. the truth is, i have friends like this.. their girls would be just dogging them out in public and they wont' say a thing until they get behind their back.
Ireneparalegal 05-18-2008, 05:57 PM  at this whole thread. It is funny.
ThomasE 05-19-2008, 10:03 AM I am not sure what to think. I am on the fence about this one.

I think I may have to watch the episodes to give a good analysis. I can talk to no end abt Claire Huxtable and poor Cliff , but Maggie and Phillip? I haven't seen much of DS other than the episodes I posted abt.
Phillip, has always seemed a very low-key kinda man. He is not loud, abrasive or anything like that. He is a very calm man. I guess he aims to please. Still, I have to watch the interaction of those two to make a comment.

I have to watch WITH MY OWN EYES, what you type here doesn't tell the whole story. ;)
Natalie1969 07-05-2011, 03:04 AM Dixie's Maggie did love Arnold-she even told Mr. D so in Wedding Part 2-she loved him and wanted to be able to connect with him. She also referred to Willis and Arnold as her or our sons several times. She also took the time to care about what was going on in Arnold's life and not just the bad stuff. She chaperoned dances and class trips and attended school functions such as the science fair. Interesting remark about the interation between Mary Ann Mobley's Maggie and Willis in Willis Goes to College-I love that scene!!!!! :)
