The Wonder Years cancellation was pretty shocking to me.

Full House's cancellation was also pretty shocking, because it was still leading in the ratings, but was cancelled because it was becoming to expensive to produce.

The Olson twins were making it too expensive to be profitable. That's why many shows are canceled despite decent ratings or a loyal following, they cost to most to produce. A low rated show may remain on the air for years if it's cheap to produce, it gets the right demographics or makes money elsewhere (like Family Guy with syndication, dvd sales, and merchandise licensing). The original Star Trek might have remained on the air for years if they had known how much $ it would be making through merchandise.

Yes. They were even thinking of moving it to what was then the new "WB" network. John Stamos wouldn't have it and threatened to quit. The producers decided they couldn't replace him. It definately could've had a better finale!

"The Wonder Years". Enough said.

"THE PATTY DUKE SHOW" and a couple others were canncaled because TV was moving to color at the time, and it would have been too expensive to convert them.

Reba. It was the topped rated comedy on the WB, and then they cancel it. After so many complaints the new CW picked it up for 13 episodes and it was still the highest rated comedy. But it still got cancelled!

Lost in Space

Gilligan's Island

The Green Hornet - it was cancelled b/c it wasn't up to the ratings that Batman had and that producer William Dozier approached ABC to convince them to give Bruce Lee (this show being his first American TV exposure) as much screen time as Van Williams, but ABC said no to that idea.

Mannix - it was a Top 25 show in its final season and it was alledgedly supposed to air on ABC's Late Night Sked for the 1975-76 TV Season, but CBS wouldn't budge its hold w/ this show and it got cancelled after 8 seasons.

What's Happening!!

The Munsters and The Addams Family in the same year.

WKRP in Cincinnati - CBS screwed this show pretty hard throughout its entire 4-year run.

I think Full House needed to be canned. It was getting so bad in those last couple years.

So do I. I said it was a surprise cancellation, I never said that wasn't a good thing ;)

I was truly surprised when ABC cancelled the Steve Harvey sitcom Me & the Boys in 1995. I loved that show, it was very funny and I thought it had good ratings. Anyone know why the plug got pulled?

The cancellation of Family Matters by CBS wasn't surprising. It was old and stale when it moved from ABC.

Yeah, I think the shocking part was that CBS picked it up in the first place!

Norm, Titus, and The Critic.

They were all good shows.

CBS tried to build their own TGIF, but TGIF on ABC was already past it's prime.

I second. I don't think I ever even saw it on CBS.

A few others I forgot about were:

Just the Ten of Us - they were supposed to renew the show for the 1990-91 TV season, but ABC surprisingly canned JTTOU b/c it wanted its TGIF sked to be all or predominantly Miller-Boyett shows. The ironic part of JTTOU's cancellation was that ABC later sent a letter to the producers and the cast saying that they prematurely cancelled the show and that they were originally going to have a S4.

Dinosaurs

As for Family Matters on CBS, what was shocking was they way CBS had someone got and tear down the whole set just as they were getting set for a S10.

Yeah, I think CBS just kind of ruined the premise of the show when they picked it up. THey had Steve and Laura get together, but they never bothered to tie up the loose ends.

I was shocked when "Courtship of Eddie's Father" was canceled in 1972. I've loved that show since it premiered in 1969 and I'm a big Brandon Cruz fan.

Bridget Loves Bernie was a great show and finished #5 for the year in the ratings. CBS got scared because all of these religious groups gave them **** about it because they felt it show inter-faith marriage in too favorable a light. Just amazing because nowadays they show inter-race relationships which truly are disgusting.

That and My Favorite Martian had to have had at least another year in them.
