After him the role of Darrin went to Dick Sargent. Why did York leave the show?

I heard it was because of complications from a back injury suffered during the filming of They Came to Cordura.

Dick York wrote a wonderful memoir, which was finally pubished in 2004. He went into great deal about the back injury and the painkiller addiction that followed. It's such a wonderful, uplifting book because he didn't get angry or bitter. Check it out here:

I love that in during his last years, he was a champion for the homeless. Someone who could have been bedridden and shut himself off from the world, didn't!

I also remember his last primetime TV appearance on the summer NBC variety show(81 or 82 I think), "Our Time" with host Karen Valentine. I remember seeing that and going "Hey, THERE'S DARRIN!!!!!!!" :D

^ I agree! I truly would've loved to meet him and pick his brain - what an awesome storyteller he was!! DY truly brought a lot of himself to Darrin - minus Darrin's temper. :D

During the 1980's Dick York did do some guest work on Simon and Simon but years of smoking and all the problems with his back took a toll on his health, and for the last few years of his life he was bedridden. York died in Grand Rapids, Michigan which is an hour away from Kalamazoo where I live.

Yes, he lived in Rockford, which is a suburb of Grand Rapids. He also did an episode of Fantasy Island if I'm not mistaken.
