Scoobiedoo30 05-13-2008, 12:49 AM I hope that The CW does do a Sitcom Hour from from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm CT Time.
Pavan 05-13-2008, 01:01 AM MRC programming (Sundays 7-10pm) will not be announced tomorrow. So we'll have to wait on that. Expect two new sitcoms and two new dramas. We have mentioned this on the blog already, so check that if you don't know what I mean about MRC.
Scoobiedoo30 05-13-2008, 01:05 AM what does MRC Stand for
Brent88 05-13-2008, 01:05 AM Wouldn't be The CW without an encore of Top Model somewhere.
I really like 90210 on Tuesdays, but I think The CW should put Filthy Rich after GG on Mondays and put OTH after 90210. 2 new shows in one night(especially when there's only three total, minus the MRC block) is too much.

Scoobiedoo30 05-13-2008, 01:09 AM oh thanks

Pavan 05-13-2008, 12:25 PM The CW's presentation is at 6:30pm ET, so they will not announce the schedule until then or shortly before. Weird. ABC announced their schedule at 8am this morning and their presentation is at 4pm ET.
Brent88 05-13-2008, 01:59 PM The CW's presentation is at 6:30pm ET, so they will not announce the schedule until then or shortly before. Weird. ABC announced their schedule at 8am this morning and their presentation is at 4pm ET.
I don't understand that.
Pavan 05-13-2008, 06:09 PM Still no official announcement. I have gotten word that 99.9% chance this is the schedule:
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/05/abc-and-cw-2008-09-upfronts-fall-2008.html
It is almost identical to our leaked schedule last night. So far we have done well this year on the leaked schedules. Check back after 6:30pm ET on the blog and here to see if there are any other changes or additions.
CBS leaked schedule will come out by 11pm ET tonight and the official schedule tomorrow morning (I'm guessing 10am or a bit later, CBS is usually pretty slow compared to NBC and ABC).

May 13, 2008 (New York, New York) ─ The CW Network announced a fall launch date of September 1 and unveiled the schedule for its 2008-2009 season today at a presentation and party for advertisers, affiliates and national media in the Tent at Lincoln Center. The announcement was made by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment, The CW.
“With shows that everyone is talking about, from ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘America’s Next Top Model’ to our upcoming ‘90210,’ our new lineup has the best Monday-Friday schedule flow we have ever had at The CW,” said Ostroff. “We are zeroed in on our target demo of young women 18-34 with both new and returning series, and each programming block provides a strong promotional platform for the following night. We’re confident that the quality of our shows for the fall season will make The CW the destination for young women.”
On Monday, the network will continue the successful combination of GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL. GOSSIP GIRL was the most buzz-worthy show of last season and had the highest concentration of female teens of any series on broadcast television. GOSSIP GIRL will return to its 8:00-9:00 p.m. slot, followed by ONE TREE HILL from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ONE TREE HILL’s loyal fan base is the second youngest on television, and the series continued to grow last season despite its time period move.
On Tuesday, 90210, the most eagerly anticipated series of the fall, will premiere in the 8:00-9:00 p.m. timeslot. A fresh interpretation of the iconic 1990’s drama “Beverly Hills, 90210,” this spin-off features a dynamic cast of up-and-coming stars, familiar faces such as Lori Loughlin (“Summerland”) and Jessica Walter (“Arrested Development”), and guest star Jennie Garth, who will reprise her role from the original series. 90210 promises to deliver all the drama and excitement of the original series. In the 9:00-10:00 p.m. timeslot, the new series SURVIVING THE FILTHY RICH brings a distinctively witty note to the Tuesday lineup. Based on the best-selling book “How To Teach Filthy Rich Girls” by Zoe Dean, SURVIVING THE FILTHY RICH stars JoAnna Garcia (“Reba”) as the live-in tutor to wild and wealthy teenage twin sisters in fabulous Palm Beach. SURVIVING THE FILTHY RICH makes the perfect companion piece for 90210.
On Wednesday, The CW’s top-rated series AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL ranked first in its time period in adults and women 18-34 and was the sixth highest-rated show on television among female teens last season. AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL returns in its successful 8:00-9:00 p.m. timeslot, followed by the new fashion reality show STYLISTA. From the creators of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and “Project Runway,” and starring Elle magazine’s Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey, and Creative Director, Joe Zee, STYLISTA is “The Devil Wears Prada” reinvented as a reality series. With tough weekly challenges, 11 hopeful fashion enthusiasts will vie for a coveted editorial job and great prizes. Together, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and STYLISTA make up the fall’s most fashionable night of television.
On Thursday, the heroic team of SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL will continue to offer viewers great special effects and gorgeous men. From 8:00-9:00 p.m., SMALLVILLE was The CW’s most-watched and highest-rated scripted series in total viewers and adults 18-49 last season. In the 9:00-10:00 p.m. hour, SUPERNATURAL is The CW’s third most-watched scripted program, despite the highly competitive timeslot.
Big changes are in store on Fridays when The CW will offer the only comedy option of the night with returning hits EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS and THE GAME. The counter-programming theme continues in the 9:00-10:00 hour with an encore presentation of AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL.
As previously announced, The CW is partnering with Media Rights Capital to program the Sunday night primetime block. Details on the individual series will be released at a later date.
For Midseason, the critically acclaimed drama REAPER will return for a second season with The Devil and his bounty hunter.

Returning for its second season, GOSSIP GIRL is a one-hour drama based on an exclusive group of privileged prep school teens on Manhattan’s Upper East Side whose lives revolve around the blog of the all-knowing albeit ultra-secretive Gossip Girl. No one knows Gossip Girl’s identity, but everyone in this exclusive and complicated vicious circle relies on her website and text messages for the latest scoop. The series stars Blake Lively as Serena van der Woodsen, Leighton Meester as Blair Waldorf, Penn Badgley as Dan Humphrey, Chace Crawford as Nate Archibald, Taylor Momsen as Jenny Humphrey, Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass, Jessica Szohr as Vanessa Abrams, Kelly Rutherford as Lily van der Woodsen and Matthew Settle as Rufus Humphrey. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Josh Schwartz (“The O.C.”), Stephanie Savage (“The O.C.”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”) and Bob Levy (“Surviving the Filthy Rich”).
9:00-10:00 P.M. “ONE TREE HILL”
Returning for its sixth season to the town of Tree Hill, last season ONE TREE HILL made the unprecedented move of taking the storylines four years into the future. Season four ended as the young characters graduated high school and season five began post-college, four years later. The show also dipped into the past, returning to incidents and events that impacted the lives of this close group of friends who call Tree Hill home. The series stars Chad Michael Murray as Lucas Scott, James Lafferty as Nathan Scott, Hilarie Burton as Peyton Sawyer, Sophia Bush as Brooke Davis, Bethany Joy Galeotti as Haley James Scott, Lee Norris as Mouth, Antwon Tanner as Skills and Paul Johansson as Dan Scott. ONE TREE HILL was created by Mark Schwahn and is executive produced by Schwahn, Joe Davola, Greg Prange, Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins. ONE TREE HILL is a Tollin/Robbins Production in association with Warner Bros. Television.
TUESDAY
8:00-9:00 P.M. “90210” (New Series)
An edgy, contemporary spin-off of the iconic drama “Beverly Hills, 90210,” the new 90210 looks at life through the eyes of Annie Mills (Shenae Grimes, “Degrassi: The Next Generation”) and her brother Dixon (Tristan Wilds, “The Wire”), whose first day at West Beverly Hills High School leaves no doubt they’re not in Kansas anymore. The Mills family, including dad Harry (casting TBD) and mom Debbie (Lori Loughlin, “Summerland”), has relocated to Beverly Hills to keep an eye on Harry’s mother Tabitha (Jessica Walter, “Arrested Development”), a feisty-but-faded former television star and a charter member of the Betty Ford Clinic. For Annie and Dixon, the awkwardness of being the new kids is made worse by the fact that their dad has taken a job as the high school principal. The school is one big culture shock for Annie, a sweet and friendly girl with a passion for the theater, and Dixon, a star athlete and scholar who was adopted by the Mills family after they took him in as a foster child. Annie and Dixon have a close sibling relationship, which they’ll need to help them cope with all the new cliques and classmates, including Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord, “Nip/Tuck”), a hot, spoiled, rich girl; Ethan (Dustin Milligan, “Runaway”), a popular jock whose abilities rival Dixon’s; Navid (Michael Steger, “The Winner”), an aspiring reporter who heads up the school’s daily newscast; and Silver (Jessica Stroup, “Prom Night”), a rebel who produces and stars in a YouTube-type video series. Even the faculty seems hip and sophisticated at WBHHS, such as smart and funny teacher Ryan Matthews (Ryan Eggold, “Dirt”) and beautiful guidance counselor Kelly Taylor (guest star Jennie Garth, the original “Beverly Hills, 90210”). The Mills family has just begun to realize how much their lives are about to change. 90210 is produced by CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Gabe Sachs & Jeff Judah (“Freaks & Geeks”). Mark Piznarski (“Gossip Girl”) is the director and executive producer of the pilot.
9:00-10:00 P.M. “SURVIVING THE FILTHY RICH” (New Series)
Twenty-three-year-old Megan Smith (JoAnna Garcia, “Reba”) has a Yale education, a relentlessly positive attitude and a plan to conquer the world of journalism, despite the fact that she is currently slaving away at a tabloid rag. Megan’s plan is thrown off course when, in one whirlwind day, she gets fired, meets cosmetics mogul Laurel Limoges (casting TBD) and becomes the live-in tutor for Laurel’s twin teen granddaughters in the heady Palm Beach world of wealth and power. The girls, Rose (Lucy Kate Hale, “Bionic Woman”) and Sage (Ashley Newbrough, “The Best Years”), are beautiful, rebellious and less-than-thrilled with their new tutor, but Megan is determined to win them over as she enjoys the perks of her new job ─ breathtaking private suite, gorgeous convertible and live-in chef Marco (Allan Louis, “Stomp the Yard”). Even the neighbors are fabulous in Palm Beach, and Megan quickly catches the eye of Will (casting TBD), the wealthy and
extremely hot dilettante who lives on the estate next door and just happens to be dating Megan’s estranged sister Lily (casting TBD). Completing this romantic quadrangle is Megan’s best friend Charlie (Michael Cassidy, “Smallville,” “The O.C.”), who is secretly in love with her. Despite her own complicated romantic and family relationships, Megan is committed to making a difference in the lives of her two headstrong charges as she navigates the treacherous waters of high society in Palm Beach. SURVIVING THE FILTHY RICH is based on the Alloy Entertainment book “How To Teach Filthy Rich Girls” by best-selling author Zoey Dean (“The A-List”). The series is from Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Rina Mimoun (“Gilmore Girls,” “Everwood”), Bob Levy (“Gossip Girl”) and Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”). Michael Engler (“30 Rock”) directed the pilot.
WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 P.M. “AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL”
Returning for its eleventh cycle, the runaway runway hit series stars Tyra Banks. The show gives real people an opportunity to prove that they can make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of supermodeling. With mentoring by Tyra Banks and exposure to high-profile fashion-industry gurus, young women of various backgrounds, shapes and sizes must endure a highly accelerated modeling boot camp and face weekly tests to determine who will make the cut as they vie for a professional modeling contract. The executive producers are Ken Mok (“Making the Band”), Tyra Banks and Daniel Soiseth (“Hell’s Kitchen”). The reality series was created by Tyra Banks and developed by Ken Mok and Kenya Barris. AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL is produced by 10 by 10 Entertainment in association with Bankable Productions.
9:00-10:00 P.M. “STYLISTA” (New Series)
If “The Devil Wears Prada” were a reality show, it would be STYLISTA. Eleven aspiring fashion enthusiasts vie for a much-coveted editorial job with Elle magazine. They work as assistants to Elle’s Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey, a demanding but well-respected fashion icon. The competitors will carry out an assistant task and a fashion editorial assignment in each episode. Each week, in consultation with Elle’s Creative Director, Joe Zee, Anne fires one person, until the last assistant standing gets “promoted” to the coveted real-life job opportunity. The grand prize includes a paid editorial position at Elle magazine, a paid lease on a great apartment in Manhattan, and a clothing allowance at H&M, all for one year, valued at $100,000. STYLISTA is from 10 by 10 Entertainment, Inc. and Bankable Incorporated in association with Magic Molehill Productions, Inc. and Warner Horizon Television Inc. with executive producers Tyra Banks, Ken Mok, Eli Holzman, Desiree Gruber and Jane Cha.
THURSDAY
8:00-9:00 P.M. “SMALLVILLE”
Returning for its eighth season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. Last season, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) became the sworn enemies that comic book aficionados have always known and loved. The season also brought storylines of Krypton and the El family, including the arrival of Clark’s cousin Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and the return of Brainiac (James Marsters). There were also exciting guest stars from the Superman mythology, including Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark”) and Helen Slater (“Supergirl”). Clark discovered more about his home planet, who his parents were, what his future holds and why he was sent to Earth. The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Erica Durance as Lois Lane and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “Spiderman 2”), based on the DC Comics characters. The executive producers are Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.
9:00-10:00 P.M “SUPERNATURAL”
Returning for its fourth season, this haunting series follows Sam and Dean Winchester, two brothers bound by tragedy and blood to their dangerous, other-worldly mission. This past season, the clock was ticking as Sam and Dean journeyed into the dark world of the unexplained to find a way to break Dean’s deadly contract with the evil Lilith. The series stars Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester. SUPERNATURAL is from Warner Bros. Television in association with Kripke Enterprises Inc. and Wonderland Sound and Vision, with executive producers Eric Kripke (“Boogeyman”), McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” “The O.C.”), Robert Singer (“Midnight Caller”) and Kim Manners (“The X-Files”).
FRIDAY
8:00-8:30 P.M. “EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS”
Returning for its fourth season, this hit comedy was inspired by the childhood experiences of comedian Chris Rock. Rock also serves as the narrator of this hilarious, touching story of a teenager growing up as the eldest of three children in Brooklyn, New York during the early 1980s. Uprooted to a new neighborhood and bused into a predominantly white middle school two hours away by his strict, hard-working parents, Chris struggled to find his place. At the conclusion of season three, Chris’ excitement over graduation from middle school was ruined when his best friend announced his plans to attend a different high school in the fall. This responsible, resilient adolescent brings a distinct, funny spin to his everyday trials and traumas, in the Golden Globe- and People’s Choice-nominated comedy EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS. The single-camera comedy series stars Tyler James Williams (“Unaccompanied Minors”) as Chris, Terry Crews (“The Longest Yard”) as Julius, Tichina Arnold (“Martin”) as Rochelle, Tequan Richmond (“Ray”) as Drew, Imani Hakim as Tonya and Vincent Martella (“Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo”) as Greg. EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS is a production of CBS Paramount Network Television in association with Chris Rock Enterprises, Inc. and 3 Arts Entertainment. Co-creator and narrator Chris Rock (“Head of State”), co-creator and writer Ali LeRoi (“Head of State”), Michael Rotenberg (“King of the Hill”), Dave Becky (“Lucky Louie”) and Don Reo (“My Wife and Kids”) are executive producers.
8:30-9:00 P.M. “THE GAME”
Returning for its third season, THE GAME is a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of the wives and girlfriends of pro-football players. This comedy tackles the way these women deal with egos, groupies and image consultants and shows how THE GAME is really played among the women behind the athletes. The series stars Tia Mowry (“Sister, Sister”) as Melanie Barnett, Coby Bell (“Third Watch”) as Jason Pitts, Pooch Hall (“Miracle’s Boys”) as Derwin Davis, Hosea Chanchez (“For Your Love”) as Malik Wright, Brittany Daniel (“White Chicks”) as Kelly Pitts and Wendy Raquel Robinson (“The Steve Harvey Show”) as Tasha Mack. THE GAME is a production of Happy Camper Productions and Grammnet Productions in association with CBS Paramount Network Television. Kelsey Grammer (“Frasier,” “Girlfriends”), creator Mara Brock Akil (“Girlfriends,” “Moesha,” “The Jamie Foxx Show”) and Steve Stark serve as executive producers.
9:00-10:00 P.M. “AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL” (Encore Presentation)

The executive producers are Ken Mok (“Making the Band”), Tyra Banks and Daniel Soiseth (“Hell’s Kitchen”). The reality series was created by Tyra Banks and developed by Ken Mok and Kenya Barris. From DHD:
That yawning sound you hear around Hollywood is the CW schedule. There are a lot of tipsters telling me that network boss Dawn Ostroff won't be around to see the CW's early launch on September 1st. She's outsourced Sunday night's scheduling to Media Rights Capital, but maybe she should have had all those smart people in India do Monday-through-Friday. A sexed-up Reaper with relationship problems makes no sense for midseason, and 90210 especially with Tori Spelling anywhere near it just makes anyone with sense ill. That said, there will be so many fashionista female clones on the network in the fall that each show will look amateurishly interchangeable. This is what happens when the worst exec (Ostroff) running the worst weblet (UPN) gets put in charge of the merged network. Remember when the old WB actually programmed quality and pleased underserved audiences? Now its successor, the CW, does nothing but pander and even ignores the sacrosanct 8 PM family hour. And its the affiliates and viewers who suffer. Enough!
We can hope... or The CW won't be around for much longer.
Mr. Television 05-13-2008, 11:26 PM after Smallville and Supernatural are finished, I'm done with the network.
Pavan 05-13-2008, 11:58 PM Rumored MRC Sunday schedule on The CW:
It is a rough schedule. Official announcement will be made at a later date.
Sundays
7:00pm Surviving Suburbia (sitcom)
7:30pm Book of Murphy (sitcom)
8:00pm I.M. Valentine, Investigations (romantic drama)
9:00pm FAT City (crime drama)
Brent88 05-17-2008, 01:36 AM Time may be running out for the CW network.
Two years after CBS Corp. and Time Warner Inc. combined their second-tier networks UPN and WB into the youth-oriented CW to pool young viewers prized by advertisers, the network's hopes of surviving are looking increasingly bleak.
Despite the buzz about "Gossip Girl," a prime-time soap opera about a group of rich kids on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the network has lost about 28% of its target audience of 18 to 34 year olds so far this season. Its ratings during this month's "sweeps" period -- the all-important measure upon which future advertising rates are set -- are down about 22%.
Advertisers eager to reach a young demographic initially clamored to sign on to the CW, but have since cooled to the network. Steven Kalb, director of broadcast media for media-buying firm MediaHub, owned by Interpublic Group, says there were high hopes for the network when last year's lineup was unveiled. Now, he says, "It has collapsed."
Part of the problem is that the CW's young audience is most prone to spend leisure time on the Internet. Last winter's Hollywood writers' strike, which forced scripted shows off the air for three months, hastened the defection of viewers to the Web.
Increasingly, people in the industry are asking whether this coming season is the CW's last chance. One person close to the situation confirms that without significant progress in the next year, at least one of the network's owners is likely to abandon the venture.
The defection of viewers recently led the network to suspend the free Web streaming of "Gossip Girl," angering some fans in the process. After several weeks of the experiment, ratings have remained essentially flat.
The CW's fall schedule, unveiled this week, suggests the network has few fresh ideas. It is debuting only three new shows, all designed to complement "Gossip Girl," which executives hope will find a larger audience come fall. The new offerings are: "90210," an updated version of the 1990s hit prime-time soap about rich kids in California, "Beverly Hills, 90210"; "Surviving the Filthy Rich," a drama about rich kids in Palm Beach; and the reality show "Stylista."
The network has made a series of radical moves in recent weeks to stem its financial losses and draw more attention from advertisers and viewers.
Last week, the CW said it was bringing in an outside production company, Media Rights Capital, to program three hours of Sunday nights, often the most-watched night on broadcast television but a poorly rated time period for the network. To take a slice of prime time and essentially cede it to another programmer is a rare event for a major network.
Also this spring, the CW elected to stop airing wrestling on Friday nights -- an admission that chasing a young male audience was no longer part of the network's mission. Wrestling had drawn high ratings, but advertising rates were lower because it draws an audience less desirable to advertisers. At its upfront presentation this week, the CW redefined its target audience as exclusively 18- to 34-year-old women.
The success of the venture is of importance for CBS Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, who has been closely involved in every element of building and promoting the network.
Mr. Moonves sits on the executive board that overseas programming and marketing decisions at the CW. The network's president, Dawn Ostroff, is a longtime associate and protégé of Mr. Moonves, and he was instrumental in placing her at the helm of the network. Mr. Moonves declined to comment.
CW executives attribute the network's poor ratings performance not to a lack of viewers but to flaws in the system of measure. "Obviously, we would have liked to do better," Ms. Ostroff said this week. "Our young audience certainly knows how to get their content in different ways, and we have to figure out different ways to measure how they're getting it."
The CW has two strategies for this: work with Nielsen Media Research, the company that records ratings, to improve its methodology; and continue efforts to lure more and younger viewers to the network. Despite its stated demographic targets, the CW viewer's median age is 34, Ms. Ostroff says.
Nielsen says in a statement that although it believes its ratings "provide a fair picture of what younger viewers are watching," the audience is challenging to track. "We are working closely with the CW and all of our clients to continuously improve our measurement."
In the past two years, the CW has experimented with different ways of presenting advertisements to its young viewers, who are proficient with digital video recorders that allow them to fast-forward through commercials, and who have especially short attention spans.
The network introduced multipart commercials called "content wraps" in its first year; in its second year, it introduced ultra-short commercials it called "cwickies." Next year, the network is focusing its efforts on TV and Web integrations, says Executive Vice President of Network Sales Bill Morningstar.
Bruce Rosenblum, president of the Warner Bros. Television Group and a member of the CW's board, says he was disappointed the network had not managed to capture a larger audience. But he pointed to the strength of its distribution system and its new-series development as reasons for optimism.
Although the CW isn't profitable itself, it has helped its parent companies launch shows that can make money down the road on other platforms such as syndicated reruns and DVD sales, Mr. Rosenblum says.
Combined, UPN and the WB lost about $2 billion in the 11 years that spent on the air. It is unclear how the CW's losses compare, since neither company reports earnings for the small network. CBS and Warner Bros. incurred significant start-up costs when they launched the CW, including a multimillion dollar marketing campaign. CW draws about a quarter of the audience that CBS does.
Nancy Tellem, president of CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group, says that CBS's commitment to the network is open-ended and that the CW has suffered mostly from too-high expectations. "I honestly believe that we did not expect it would be as difficult as it was," she says.

ryan423 05-17-2008, 02:20 AM I'm really hoping the network fails! CBS should consider making the network sitcoms like CBS's Monday line-up. A netowrk of sitcoms and a couple of dramedy's would do the netowrk well. They should also try to target a different audience if the 18-34 audience isn't pulling in the ratings!

I doubt that would work. CBS has the oldest viewers of all the networks. Olders watch network TV out of habit even when they can download or DVD the shows
robyrob 05-17-2008, 09:44 AM well if their goal was to drive away as many viewers as possible OUTSIDE of the 18-24 demographic, than they have A STUNNING SUCCESS on their hands!!!
CONGRATULATIONS CW!!!!
mtlguy 05-17-2008, 11:45 AM I think that if the CW folds after this year, The WB will be reborn, but more like a cable network type of schedule, with a mix of old and new scripted shows, like most cable network. But I actually think that The CW will be up enough to at least get them trough another season.
90210 will be a success and it alone will save the network trough at least another pilot season and depending if the 2009-2010 crops is good enough brings in at least another 90210 type expected buzz/succesm then it will fold

NBC is in horrible shape right now, the worst I've ever seen, but that's for another thread. :p

Primetime on Sunday nights will launch from 6:30-10:00 p.m., featuring narrative reality, family comedy and hour-long dramas by award-winning creative teams including Craig Piligian, Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Kevin Abbott and Kevin Murphy
May 27, 2008 (Burbank, CA) Media Rights Capital and The CW are ready to roll-out their Sunday night primetime programming block for the upcoming fall 2008-09 broadcast television season. The strategic alliance between the two companies will launch with a one-hour narrative reality show, one half-hour family comedy and two one-hour long dramas. The Sunday night block will begin at 6:30 p.m., taking advantage of the traditional family viewing night and expanding the reach of the evolving network. The announcement was made today by MRC co-CEO’s Modi Wiczyk and Asif Satchu and Keith Samples, President, Television, Media Rights Capital, along with CW President of Entertainment Dawn Ostroff and COO John Maatta.
The programs scheduled to premiere in September, 2008 are:
6:30-7:30 IN HARM'S WAY – A reality show that looks at lives of people doing dangerous jobs. Executive Producer is Craig Piligian (“Dirty Jobs,” “American Chopper,” “Survivor”).
7:30 - 8:00 SURVIVING SUBURBIA – Half-hour comedy about a family and their new neighbors. Kevin Abbott is Executive Producer (“Roseanne,” “Grace Under Fire,” “Reba,” “My Name is Earl”).
8:00-9:00 VALENTINE, INC. – One-hour drama/comedy about an agency that finds lost loves, true loves and mends broken hearts. Kevin Murphy is Executive Producer (“Reaper,” “Desperate Housewives”).
9:00-10:00 EASY MONEY – One-hour drama about a family that runs a high-interest loan business. Executive Producers are Andy Schneider and Diane Frolov (“Northern Exposure,” “The Chris Isaak Show,” “The Sopranos”).
All of the shows will begin production, pilot-free, by mid-June. MRC and The CW sales team will begin meeting with advertisers and agencies this week. Consistent with the MRC integrated business model, all five showrunners will participate in the initial meetings to present their creative points of view and hear advertiser needs from the on-set of the creative process.
“Our approach...is simple: when you put talented people like our artist partners and the advertising folks together in a room, they come up with smart and creative solutions to problems. We want them integrated and talking from the beginning,” explained Satchu and Wiczyk.
MRC and the CW will announce Sunday programming for the 5-6:30 p.m. time slot in the near future.

PrettyinPink55 07-19-2008, 07:50 PM It's karma, Dawn Ostroff!!! That's what you get for canceling a quality program like Everwood and keeping 7th Heaven in its place!! (Yeah, I'm still bitter about that because it makes no sense to me!)
As long as One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl are fine, I'm fine.
BUT BRING BACK THE WB!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pavan 09-22-2008, 07:49 PM THE CW EXTENDS TRIP TO THE ZIP,
GIVING “90210” A FULL-SEASON PICKUP
September 22, 2008 (Burbank, CA) ─ The CW’s drama “90210,” quickly becoming one of the most popular series among young women, has been picked up for a full season of episodes, it was announced today by Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, The CW.
“The successful addition of ‘90210’ has taken The CW another step forward in building a cohesive schedule that defines this network as a destination for young women with shows that get our audience talking -- and watching,” said Ostroff. “We’re very excited about the chance to watch this ensemble of newcomers and familiar faces coalesce and grow together as we move forward.”
The two-hour debut of “90210” shattered ratings records for The CW Network, becoming the highest-rated series premiere in the network’s history with women 18-34 (4.5/12), adults 18-34 (3.1/9) and adults 18-49 (2.6/7). The “90210” series opener led The CW to become Tuesday’s #1 network in all key demographics. With a double airing of the “90210” premiere during the opening week (Tuesday and Thursday), 12.7 million viewers watched all or part of The CW’s highly anticipated new series. Facing increased competition, the most recent telecast of 90210 scored week-to-week gains in target demos, including 6% in women 18-34 (3.3/10), 14% in adults 18-34 (2.4/7) and 3% in total viewers (3.3mil). In addition, the series debut of “90210” added over a third more viewers in target demographics with Live-Plus Seven Day DVR viewing included.
“90210” stars Rob Estes, Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilds, AnnaLynne McCord, Dustin Milligan, Ryan Eggold, Jessica Stroup, Michael Steger, Lori Loughlin and Jessica Walter, with special appearances by Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty. The show is produced by CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Gabe Sachs & Jeff Judah (“Freaks & Geeks”) and new-to-the-series Rebecca Kirschner (“Gilmore Girls”).
Scoobiedoo30 09-22-2008, 08:20 PM that is great news about 90210.
Buffyboy323 09-23-2008, 05:04 AM Whoohoo!...I hope. I haven't watched the new series yet, but I'm a HUGE fan of the original show. I was kind of waiting for this news to see if I really wanted to catch up on the first few episodes. I didn't want to rush to watch them, only for the show to be axed mid-season (but of course I would have watched them anyway!).
Buffyboy323 09-23-2008, 05:05 AM *I also found this:
(Ausiello) As I was perusing The CW's just-released press release announcing the full-season pickup of 90210, I noticed the most peculiar thing: Those crazy kids buried their lead!
In the final sentence of the bulletin, the network quietly mentions that veteran Gilmore Girls scribe Rebecca Kirshner is joining the series as an executive producer.
And it gets better.
After I did some digging, a 90210 source confirms to me exclusively that Amy Sherman-Palladino's longtime collaborator will not just be sitting in the show's writers room, she'll be running it. (And yes, contrary to speculation, the show does have one of those.) Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, meanwhile, will continue to serve as show's day-to-day showrunners.
In announcing the 90210 pickup, CW prez Dawn Ostroff says, "The successful addition of 90210 has taken The CW another step forward in building a cohesive schedule that defines this network as a destination for young women with shows that get our audience talking -- and watching. We're very excited about the chance to watch this ensemble of newcomers and familiar faces coalesce and grow together as we move forward."
Exactly how many familiar faces will be sticking around 90210 remains an open question. As I reported over the weekend, Jennie Garth is denying that she has agreed to stick around beyond her initial six-episode stint. "Nothing's confirmed at this point," she told me. "It's still totally up in the air." (That noise you hear is Dawn Ostroff telling her assistant to get Tori Spelling's reps on the phone.)
Is the infusion of some Gilmore blood the best thing to happen to 90210 since Shannen and Jennie agreed to bury the hatchet? I say, "**** straight, it is!" But what do you say? Comment away!

I thought they were going on hiatus in December and were coming back in the spring for their final episodes if indeed they are ending. The producers though have already said that they expect to continue for several more seasons. I saw that in an article a few weeks ago.

Yea even when they mentioned about that new Robin pilot they are making, they said it didn't mean that it was the end of Smallville. I think they'll make an announcement soon though. I hope its the last year. They should make sure Lex comes back for the final. The show isn't the same without him.

friendsfan77 10-12-2008, 12:48 AM Karma for canceling my Everwood and for letting Gilmore Girls go!!!
I will never forgive them for canceling Everwood.
Mr. Television 10-12-2008, 12:54 AM Long live Everwood. :D
MusicJunkie 10-12-2008, 01:30 AM OTH and Supernatural are all I care about on there. Some people won't forgive them for Everwood and others for Gilmore Girls. For me, it's Reba. There was no reason to cancel that show when it literally was getting double what the other sitcoms they had got, but CW were so afraid of demographics that they just couldn't put Reba alongside Girlfriends and Chris
I also hate CW for dumbing Veronica Mars down and turning it from one of TV's freshest and best series to a mediocre college show. Seasons 1 and 2 were both five star seasons, season 3 was barely two stars IMO.
At least I do give them some credit for continuing to stand by OTH when the show was close to cancellation in season 3 and 4, and I think the current episodes are the best since the first season IMO.
friendsfan77 10-12-2008, 01:37 AM Yeah, you just gotta love the way they treated Reba. It was like pulling teeth for them to have new episodes be made, but they had no problem rerunning the show for months before and afterwards to get ratings.
JulieSomoski 10-12-2008, 02:17 PM They've made a mistake only catering to young women. They're never going to grow that way.
I completely agree. They're so limited in their audience that I don't think they care anymore whether or not their shows do well. As long as they get that young female demographic, they're happy. What a dumb way to run a network :D

JulieSomoski 11-21-2008, 07:08 PM What a smart move by the CW - now I'm looking forward to seeing this new lineup of reruns outrate the MRC block!
Of all the sitcoms, I can't believe they picked The Drew Carey Show - its a unique choice, but a good one by far! Hopefully it'll last awhile, because I'll definitely be watching every Sunday night! And Jericho is another good option at 7pm. If only we could have gotten some more classic sitcom repeats in there somewhere.

“Gossip Girl,” “One Tree Hill,” “90210,” “America’s Next Top Model,” “Smallville” and “Supernatural” To Return Next Season
February 24, 2009 (Burbank, California) -- The CW announced today the early pickups of six series, including five of the network’s signature dramas and the reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, which will all return in Fall 2009.
“As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule and our brand identity,” said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, The CW. “By securing these signature hits for next season, we’re furthering our commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to our viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”
Among the series receiving early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday tandem of sophomore sensation GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL, which combined to lift The CW to become the fall’s #1 network on Monday with women 18-34. Both GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL have scored double-digit gains compared to their previous seasons. Freshman hit 90210 has improved the network’s Tuesday night by double-digit increases in key demos. Wednesday anchor AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, which consistently wins its time period with young women, will also be back with superstar Tyra Banks and new groups of aspiring models for cycles 13 and 14.
Also renewed were the network’s established Thursday team of SMALLVILLE, which will be going into its ninth season, and SUPERNATURAL, which after posting ratings growth this season, will enter its fifth season next year.

No Priveleged renewal? Too bad, I found that show much better than 90210.
Lucy Hale is great. Hope she gets another show.

I think that one is still up in the air. It hasn't officially been canceled, and they aired all of the first season episodes, so hopefully they're still considering it for next season. Though it seems unlikely, being as how they pretty much picked up every other show on the nework.
Pavan 04-06-2009, 03:42 PM THE CW ANNOUNCES TWO REALITY SERIES
PREMIERES FOR SUMMER 2009
Network To Launch Original Summer Programming For First Time
“Hitched or Ditched” Premieres in May,
“Blonde Charity Mafia” Premieres in July
Monday, April 6, 2009 (Burbank, California) -- The CW announced today that it will launch two original series for the summer: the reality relationship series HITCHED OR DITCHED and the docu-series set in Washington, D.C., BLONDE CHARITY MAFIA.
“We’re very excited to be launching original programming during the summer months for the first time,” said Dawn Ostroff, president, entertainment, The CW. “We want to keep this season’s momentum going by freshening our schedule with two new reality shows with fun, relatable concepts aimed squarely at our young female demo.”
HITCHED OR DITCHED premieres Tuesday, May 26 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), following the season finale of REAPER (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET). Encore presentations will air Wednesdays (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET), beginning May 27. The six-episode run will continue until the season finale on June 30.
The half-hour episodes of BLONDE CHARITY MAFIA will premiere with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, July 7 (9:00-9:30 and 9:30-10:00 p.m. ET). Beginning July 14, an encore of the previous week’s episode will air at 9:00 p.m., followed by an original episode at 9:30 p.m. The six episodes will conclude with a season finale on August 4.
HITCHED OR DITCHED is a one-hour reality show focusing on couples who are in long-term relationships but have not yet taken that big leap into marriage. Nominated by a friend who believes it’s either time for the couple to tie to the knot or break up, each episode features a different couple who accept their friend's proposition to set a wedding date in one week’s time. Throughout the week leading up to the big day, the couple is put through a series of personalized exercises that test their relationship, all while planning their dream wedding. They may have to confront their problems ranging from mending relationships with future in-laws to dealing with jealousy issues. When the wedding day arrives, the couple will make the final decision – will they tie the knot or call the whole thing off? Viewers will witness every emotional milestone as the couple decides if it’s time to get HITCHED OR DITCHED. The series is hosted by Tanya McQueen (“Extreme Make-Over Home Edition”). HITCHED OR DITCHED is produced by RDF USA in association with Next Entertainment. The executive producers are Mike Fleiss (“The Bachelor,” “High School Reunion”), Chris Coelen (“Secret Millionaire,” “Don’t Forget the Lyrics”), Greg Goldman (“Secret Millionaire,” “Wife Swap”), Mike Duffy (“Addicted to Beauty”) and Jason Ehrlich (“The Bachelor”).
BLONDE CHARITY MAFIA is a docu-series about the lives of Washington, D.C.’s most influential 20-something Alpha Girls. The BCM runs the D.C. social circuit from charity events to society parties. Their events are the hottest ticket in town, and everyone vies for an invitation – from Congressmen to Hill staffers. Gossip about the BCM is played out and played up on LATENIGHTSHOTS.com (a local, invite-only social website), where minute-by-minute gossip updates about the BCM's daily (and nightly) exploits are shared for the D.C. public to devour. BLONDE CHARITY MAFIA is from Capital Hills Productions, Inc. with executive producers Patty Ivins (“The Modern Girl’s Guide To Life,” “Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Model Search”) and Julie Pizzi (“The Modern Girl’s Guide To Life,” “Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Model Search”).

CW's finale dates out?
Du Mont 06-28-2009, 01:42 PM After only one week, 'Reaper' encores have been pulled by The CW from its Sunday night line-up. Instead, The CW will programme the remaining episodes of 'Valentine' (four episodes remain unaired) and 'Easy Money' (with three or four unaired episodes in the can).
The new Sunday night line-up likely to be in place for the rest of the summer is:
5:00 pm 'Everybody Hates Chris' encores
5:30 pm 'The Game' encores
6:00 pm 'The Drew Carey Show' encores
6:30 pm 'The Drew Carey Show' encores
7:00 pm 'Valentine' / 'Easy Money' new episodes
8:00 pm 'The CW Sunday Night Movie' (July titles announced include ROAD HOUSE and HOOSIERS).
Also, it was announced a few weeks back that 'Blonde Charity Mafia' was pulled from the summer sked and will now be held as a mid-season replacement for the 2009-10 slate. That has left a bit of a hole in the Tuesday and Wednesday night line-ups where 'Hitched or Ditched' originals and encores werel filling the 9-10 pm hour. The CW has now skedded double-ups of '90210' on Tuesday nights and double-ups of 'America's Next Top Model' on Wednesday nights through the remainder of the summer.
