Happy Mother's Day: Woman pregnant with 18th child
By JILL ZEMAN, Associated Press Writer 11 minutes ago
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - It's a happy Mother's Day for an Arkansas woman — she's pregnant with her 18th child. Michelle Duggar, 41, is due on New Year's Day, and the latest addition will join seven sisters and 10 brothers. There are two sets of twins.
"We've had three in January, three in December. Those two months are a busy time for us," she said, laughing.
The Duggars' oldest child, Josh, is 20, and the youngest, Jennifer, is nine months old.
The fast-growing family lives in Tontitown in northwest Arkansas in a 7,000-square-foot home. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are home-schooled.
Duggar has been been pregnant for more than 11 years of her life, and the family is in the process of filming another series for Discovery Health.
The new show looks at life inside the Duggar home, where chores — or "jurisdictions" — are assigned to each child. One episode of the new show involves a "jurisdiction swap," where the boys do chores traditionally assigned to the girls, and vice versa, Duggar said.
"The girls swapped jurisdictions, changing tires, working in the garages, mowing the grass," she said. "The boys got to cook supper from start to finish, clean the bathrooms," among other chores.
Duggar said she's six weeks along and the pregnancy is going well. She and her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, said they'll keep having children as long as God wills it.
"The success in a family is first off, a love for God, and secondly, treating each other like you want to be treated," Jim Bob Duggar said. "Our goal is for each one of our children to be best friends, and everybody working together to serve each other makes that happen."
The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jennifer, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 16; Jessa, 15; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 10; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 7; James, 6; Justin, 5; Jackson, 3; and Johannah, 2.
Ireneparalegal 05-09-2008, 06:26 PM Oh for crying out loud already, tie your tubes woman!!!!!!!!!

I knew before the year was out we'd hear this news again.
Those kids are definitely thee most well-behaved. I give the Duggars props for being able to raise such a large family and raise them well. ;)

PZelda 05-09-2008, 06:51 PM I know, good lord. Kudos to them on being able to support themselves just fine with that many kids. Still, dayum.
I seriously wonder if Michelle -likes- being pregnant. And how she and Jim Bob find the time & privacy to, ahem, put a bun in the oven, so to speak. I hear that whoever is the youngest at the time has their crib in the same room as the parents.

Well, the youngest (Jennifer) is 9 months old. She doesn't know what is going on while she sleeps.
Poor Jennifer, get ready to get booted out of your crib.
My boyfriend and I have a hard time finding "quiet time" and there are only 3 kids in our house. Two of them are adults.

I think all kids are bothered knowing their parents "did the deed" regardless. They just can't fathom that abt their parents. Ewwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!

They can afford it, Some items may have been donated but Mr. Duggar has a respectable job and has provided well for his family. They also know how to stretch a dollar as well, They're far from being in the poor house.
I am Roboto 05-10-2008, 10:07 AM Meh. It seems weird to me, but if it works well for them so be it. I find it hard to believe, however, that they could adequately pay attention to so many children to attend to all their needs. No slight on them, it just doesn't seem logistically possible.

Yes, this is pretty much how I feel about them too. 18 kids...obviously well cared for....everyone looking out for and helping each other....REMARKABLE! More families should have their spirit (although not necessarily their size LOL). They truly are extraordinary -in a good way! (don't Know why (ha ha) but theyalways reminds me a tiny bit of the movie "Yours, Mine and Ours."
catlover79 05-10-2008, 11:42 AM ^ I love Yours, Mine & Ours. :D I can't even IMAGINE having that many kids (), but I guess it seems to work for them.
waichingliu81 05-10-2008, 01:15 PM geez! :eek2: with as many kids as that, they are able to field a football team.
as nuts as it is, good for them. as long as the parents don't abuse those kids, then it's all good, i suppose
vtunie 05-10-2008, 04:39 PM Sorry. This is NOT cool. Too many!

That's right. I think I heard that The Learning Channel had their house built, but not sure. That channel is always doing stories on them. It's sort of like Extreme Makeoverr: Home Edition, lol. I think it's wild that anyone would want to judge such a personal decision of the part of a married couple. With so many mothers working full-time these days, how much time do their kids get. This mother is home all the time. There's enough love to go around. Freedom of choice, it works both ways.
Ireneparalegal 05-11-2008, 12:01 AM All those babies and children who are being neglected and abused, should be blessed to be in a family like this one.
Just yesterday they aired that special again where the Duggars go on a trip in an RV. They visit the Grand Canyon and Disneyland. I remember when Oprah had them on her show. She said what I always thought abt those kids. They are thee most well-behaved group of kids in a family that she has ever seen. When they appeared on her show, they all sat on the stage and were just in awe of the whole experience. Right down to the baby, they were all quiet and attentive.

The older kids look after the little ones, I'm pretty sure.

I believe they built their house on their own with the help from some friends and plus all of their children.

Amen to that, It just amazes me that these parents can raise all these kids so well yet some parents can't handle the responsibility of raising just one. I doubt very much that we'll read about the Duggars leaving one of their kids in a hot car or any other stupid act of irresponsibility.

Well said. I am sick of reading abt neglected and abused babies and children. I am sick of stupid parents. I am sick of stupid parenting skills or lack of them. Duggars have 17 kids and not a bad one in the bunch. I bet if Mrs. Duggar were asked to take in a few abused kids, she would do it in a heartbeat. ;)
PZelda 05-11-2008, 01:03 AM So, reading their About Me section... This is actually #19 for her. She miscarried between Josh and the twins (Jana and John-David).
Good lord... NINETEEN pregnancies...
Oh, and if you were wondering about some of the ways they make money:
As a family project the Duggars built a 7000 sqft. home debt free! Both Jim Bob and Michelle are licensed real estate agents. They often host and facilitate the Jim Sammon’s Financial Freedom Seminar. Jim Bob served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003 and was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2002.
Janice 05-11-2008, 01:14 AM TLC did help with their home. I remember reading it at one time.

Cable network TLC helps the Duggars expand their digs
June 22, 2005 09:32 AM EDT
TONTITOWN - The famed Duggar family of Springdale is once again in the spotlight. Jim Bob Duggar and his wife Michelle have 15 children and one on the way. Now the Learning Channel is helping the family build a new homestead.
Not only are the Duggars building a bigger family and a bigger home, they're also building a bigger television audience.
TLC, The Learning Channel is filming the construction process for a one-hour home show. The cable network is even supplying some professionals to help guide the family.
"The most fun thing is screwing in the studs to the walls," 8-year-old Josiah Duggar said.
"Our goal is for our children to apprentice under these experts and learn all aspects of building," Jim Bob Duggar said.
Eight of the family's 15 children are helping to build the 7,000 square foot home in Tontitown.
"I really want the plumbing done because we'd have a bathroom here," Josiah Duggar said.
"Also a bigger girl's room because the one we're in is really small," 15-year-old Jana Duggar said.
With a sixth girl on the way the Duggar family is only getting bigger.
"We're designing this home for our children and our future grandchildren," Jim Bob Duggar said.
The Learning Channel is hoping to help the Duggars finish their home before baby No. 16 comes in October.
The family is also working with the Discovery Health Channel on another program that will feature the couple and their 15, soon to be 16 children.

LoveMrsG 06-30-2008, 03:23 AM I'm pretty much in awe of the Duggars, too. Baby#19...WOW!!! And I agree with what everybody's been saying, that as long as they're supporting themselves and the kids are well cared for, which they obviously are, their decision is nobody else's business and more power to 'em if that's what they want to do with their own lives.
But still, I can't believe it...what is it? Eighteen kids and nineteen pregnancies, or is this actually baby#19? I lost track a LOOOONG time ago! LOL My jaw drops every time the Duggars make the news again. Hey guys, you think they'll make it to 25??? *LoveMrsG scratches her head*
LoveMrsG 06-30-2008, 03:26 AM And, yeah, somebody made a good point...with all their little ones, just how DO they get the time to, ahem, get together and put another bun in the oven??? :rotflmao:

LoveMrsG 06-30-2008, 04:40 AM You know, if I just had 2 kids in back-to-back pregnancies, by the time in my life that I WASN'T pregnant came around again and my husband started putting the moves on me, I'd slit his throat before he had the chance to lay another hand on me! I mean, I agree that it's certainly their business and not mine, but I think Ireneparalegal was right when she talked about Michelle Duggar considering the possibility of getting her tubes tied!
Almost 20 kids....*LoveMrsG scratches her head again*

What's amazing about Michelle & Jim Bob is that they LOVE having kids and all are well cared for & loved. Hard for me to imagine any woman wanting to be pregnant so much but SHE seems to like it and the Duggars can obviously handle the responsibility. And it doesn't seem to be posing any health risks for her. (I see a Guiness Record in the making....) What a remarkable couple and family!

I'll probably get all kinds of flack for this, but I just don't think this is right. Yes, it's great that they care for their children, but women aren't meant to have "litters" I'm sorry. Having children is wonderful and I can't wait to have my own, but after a certain point, it's just insane.

Plus, it's mostly the older daughters who raise the children anyway. Not to mention their cult of a belief system.

What's flawed about it? You have all these kids who are well-behaved, Parents who obviously know what they're doing as opposed to some who can't handle the responsibility of raising one.
This family isn't flawed, That definition is reserved for someone like that beeotch in Florida who waited 5 weeks to report her daughter missing along with that even bigger beeotch grandmother of hers who I believe knows more than she's letting on.

I'm in the same boat. I agree with you. And guys, PLEASE don't give me 20 different kinds of heck for saying that, everybody who preaches how wonderful it is that they're responsible for their kids and it's their business. I have said I don't know how many times on here that I agree that it is wonderful that they are responsible people and that how many kids they have is their own business. I'm just saying that in my own personal opinion, I believe that having that many kids is just plain insane. I for one am planning on having 2 or 3 and spending the whole rest of my life spoiling them rotten! :) And that's just me, if we can please respectfully agree or disagree or whatever without going to the bashing. ;)

i just think it's a little too...robotic. i find it creepy. like they're "trained" to do their chores. i dont really know...im not sure if it was in this thread or the other thread about them, i just remember reading a description of their "day" and finding it to be creepy. obviously its not on the levels of abuse or anything, i just think it's a little too robotic and "perfect", like a family you'd see in a movie. like Sara said, it's almost cult-like.
just my opinion.
James"Thunder"Early 07-24-2008, 10:06 AM As long as they can afford it, there's nothing wrong with it. It's admirable that they can handle raising so many children.
Chocoholic 07-24-2008, 11:35 AM I think it's wonderful that they can take care of so many kids and not have to rely on welfare. The kids appear happy and well-behaved too. There are so many "parents" out there that can't handle raising two or three children. I just wish they had chosen to adopt some children instead.
I remember reading an article a few years ago about a couple that adopted over a dozen children. (IIRC, they had a couple of biological kids too.) All the kids they adopted were kids that nobody else wanted. Most of them had disabilities like Down's Syndrome and cerebral palsy. IMHO, that couple deserves to be commended a lot more than the Duggar couple does.
Edit: It's the Murphy family from Atlanta, Georgia. http://www.five.tv/programmes/extraordinarypeople/family/ Here's another website about them www.murphyhouseproject.com
OH Nuts! 07-25-2008, 02:04 PM While I think the vast majority of couples WOULD NOT want to have so many kids, that the Duggars do and can obviously handle it is great. They march to the beat of their own drummer - more power to them! I think they're an amazing family.
