I think it'll get renewed but only because the strike means there are not as many pilots as usual and because I think FOX wants to have ONE live-action sitcom survive(I don't think 'Til Death will). It's going to be on a very short leash if it does come back though. The show is HUGELY expensive with Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammar and the ratings don't justify the cost.

I haven't watched the ep yet, but I did record it. Can't wait to see it! :D

Some people want to see its demise for some odd reasoning. Fret not, everything has been down post strike. Even the almighty AI, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Dancing with the Stars etc.

That ep. was really good! The new boss is so typical, other than the hugs... Maybe they'd be smart to concentrate on the work environment more (a la MTM) and less on the home/Gracie angle.

I don't think it had to do with the storyline, almost every show was down this week. Still I didn't expect that kind of drop in the demos. You're right about the scheduling time though. I really don't get why FOX didn't put the comedies after AI.

Oh definitively, AI or not, this is a 9 a clock show. The actors and the writers have been emphasizing this from the get go. This is not an a family show!

Agreed, let's hope FOX realizes this and brings BTY back for a 2nd season and then places it in that timeslot.

DHD says it has been cancelled. :( I really thought it'd get renewed(I know I've been critical but FOX is struggling in the sitcom department big time).

Probably. I guess it came down to costs because 'Til Death did a LOT worse in the ratings.

Here it is -- the first series pickup this upfront season.

Fox on Friday night ordered the comedy "The Inn."

The network also renewed sitcom " 'Til Death," while, in a somewhat surprising move, it opted not to bring back comedy "Back to You" for a second season.

"The Inn," from 20th TV, stars Niecy Nash and Jerry O'Connell and is described as "Upstairs/Downstairs" set at a hip New York hotel.

Sophomore " 'Til Death" and freshman "Back to You" -- both multicamera sitcoms -- have run in a block to OK but not spectacular ratings. However, "Back to You" is far more expensive as it boasts marquee talent in front and behind the camera with Kelsey Grammer, Patrica Heaton and creator Christopher Lloyd.

The word from Fox of the cancelation was this past week's episode. That was the last straw for Fox. Usually every show that airs before American Idol gets a bigger audience than normal because of pre-Idol tune in (this is a well known fact, I can post numbers for shows like Bones going way up from normal), but Back to You did just about the same or sometimes even worse than the fall. A 2.1 18-49 rating in front of Idol is way too old. After I saw that, I knew its chances were slim now, because I even predicted it on my Fox preview (which I worked on Wednesday night, before the ratings came in). But yes, like Brent said, cost was probably the main reason.

I think the problem is FOX is run by a bunch of idiots. First of all, it put it Til Death as a lead-in, which since it came back from the strike, can barely manage 6 million viewers. 2nd, not every viewer turns their TV on at 8:30 to get ready for AI. It's just not a good point to make considering the number of viewers this show gets at 8:30. Third, like it's been pointed out, this show is definitely a 9pm hour show. The kind of humor this show gives is more suited for 9pm, not 8pm.

There's got to be something we can do. It worked with Jericho, why not Back to You?

Thanks for backing me on this one, Pavan. I just think they reacted too quickly from Wednesday's ratings. Nearly everything has been down this season after returning from the strike. Even AI has been down 6-7 million from last season, which is way too much for a number 1 rated show. THey definitely gave up on Back to You too quickly. They expected too much out of it.

Yet, even when it always did build on Til Death's ratings, it still got cancelled. Even airing at 8pm before the strike, it always did better than Til Death. I just don't understand the reason behind renewing that show, but not Back to You.

If anything, they should have picked this show up at least for midseason. I hope all their sitcoms fail next season . . . that'll show them-LOL

No they shouldn't. I said this in the other hreat and I'll say it again, quality is expensive, trash is cheap. Fox had a comedy of superior quality but decided to keep the mediocre on because it costs less. Excellent strategy!
