Ryan Seacrest might be adding hosting duties of another kind to his schedule in 2009. A source from within CNN says that Seacrest, who has filled in for his friend Larry King in the past, is involved in "serious negotiations" to take over “Larry King Live” around year’s end. King told The New York Times in April 2007 that Seacrest would be his first choice to take over the show when the time came.

“He’s the classic generalist,” King told the Times. “The only thing I don’t know, and I’ve gotten to know him pretty well, is how versed he is in politics, world affairs. Does he read the paper? Is he interested in Iraq? Because if he is, he’s going to be very good.”

Another source familiar with Seacrest and his involvement on “American Idol” said that a drastic course change might be just what Seacrest needs. “He's so serious about his career, but like anyone, he wants it to evolve. Hosting ‘Larry King’ would be perfect for him."


A rep for Seacrest said that “Larry and Ryan are close and Ryan does fill in as a guest host from time to time, but we have no comment on this story.” Another source close to CNN, on the other hand, said “there is no truth to this story.”

I have seen him host LK. He did quite well. Honestly, I hate to see Larry go, but lately his interview skills are not up to par.

I thought Katie Couric was going to get the Larry King gig..

Actually, I did prefer Brian to Ryan in the first season of "American Idol." I was sad to see him go.

Considering that Larry King is IMO a terrible interviewer, maybe it is time for a new host to step in.

You're quite right, and with Dick Clark's blessing. He's been grooming Ryan Seacrest as his successor for years, hand-picked him for the New Year's Eve Special. Seacrest is following in Dick Clark's footsteps, and in every interview I've read, Clark wants it that way.

Ryan Seacrest is like Drew Carey. Taking over the duties of someone who was loved by many and has big shoes to fill. ;) I am sure Ryan will do a great job.

I know others have seen lately how Larry King seems to not be too sharp anymore at his interviewing skills. It is not the same.

That is beyond laughable, it is absurd. Seacrest is a clod. Why is he all over the radio and TV? Good agent I guess.

i can't stand ryan seacrest. he's so overrated. i find him annoying to watch. although i'm no fan of katie couric, i'd pick her over ryan anyday.
