View Full Version : David Cook's DialIdol dominance
Brian Damage 05-04-2008, 02:05 PM It's official: There's a new king of the hill on "American Idol," and his name is also David.
For weeks, callers to the "Idol" phone voting line belonging to David Archuleta have been the busiest, according to DialIdol.com. DialIdol distributes a piece of free software that lets people rapid-dial from their computers; in exchange, they agree to let DialIdol know (anonymously, I assume) how many busy signals they're getting on their line. DialIdol then crunches the data to predict, with uncanny accuracy, who's up and who's down. Contestants who have far more busy signals on their line than others are considered safe from elimination; those with relatively low busy counts are in danger of being ousted.
Until last week, little Archuleta was topping the DialIdol "Predictions" chart. But then David Cook was the beneficiary of a highly empathetic storyline in his sick brother Adam Cook (and yes, I realize how crass it looks to refer to a young man with brain cancer as a "storyline," but for the purposes of explaining the outcome of the program, how can you not?). Cook shot to the top of the DialIdol busy-signal strength list, though Archuleta, Jason Castro and even Kristy Lee Cook (oops!) were also considered safe. DialIdol's good, but it ain't perfect.
Anyway, fast forward to this week. I thought Archuleta might be bumped back up to No. 1, but no, this has suddenly become David Cook's contest to lose.

EmoJoe 05-04-2008, 03:46 PM this article must be pretty old, because David Archuleta hasn't been #1 on DialIdol since top 8 week, and Syesha was #1 this past week.
ANYWAY. DialIdol is stupid. they said they were right about Syesha being safe because Ryan never actually said she was in the bottom 2. which is true and she probably wasn't really in the bottom 2 but COME ON. in the semis, they would say everyone was in danger of elimination except for David Archuleta

David Cook is clearly the best singer left. The young kids (especially girls) are voting hundreds of times for David A. and Jason because of their looks. The contest is about singing, NOT looks.
Stormtracker TF 05-04-2008, 04:37 PM DialIdol dominance means nothing, ask Melinda and LaKisha. Last year, they had a combined eight staight weeks at #1 on DialIdol, and neither even made the top 2.
Jordin on the other had had just a single week at #1 (Top 6) before she blew out Blake in the Finale.

i agree about Jason, but can you honestly tell me David Archuleta isnt in the top 4 vocalists of the season?
Stormtracker TF 05-04-2008, 04:39 PM Incredibly enough though, Taylor Hicks spent every week in the finals on top of DialIdol. If that wasn't a sign, I don't know what was.

Yeah, I just mean looking back...As unreliable as that site may be, THAT is definitely a sign of something.

its a good way to measure fanbases but its not 100% reliable.
Stormtracker TF 05-04-2008, 04:44 PM And my theory of the reason why Taylor's crazy fanbase didn't carry over to his album era is because they were all at the age where they began to lose their memory and forgot who he was after a few months.
In other words, they were all as old as Taylor himself.

Definitely not. I think this is going to be the year that REALLY puts that site to the test.
It already has, actually. But it would be even better if it actually wrongly predicted the winner.

well this would be the first year they measured the results where the winner wasn't painfully obvious (assuming it's a David vs. David finale, which it probably wont be cause AI sucks.)

That would be some ironic KARMA for all your David C bashing.

i dont bash him, i bash the pimping :snob:

I've yet to see that. ;)

I didn't say he wasn't Top 4, I said he wasn't the best singer. He is clearly the leader right now because AI allows you to vote how ever many times you want, and these young girls are getting on the phone and voting hundreds of times for him because of his looks. Same for Jason. Jason should of went home weeks ago. If either of them two win, especially Jason, I'll never watch Idol again.

actually David Cook has been #1 in the voting these past few weeks from what i hear.
JulieSomoski 05-04-2008, 08:00 PM I never took DialIdol seriously, too. It's just not a reliable way to choose who's going home or who's going to win, because no one know's who will be voting for who each week.
I"m not surprised to see David Cook on top, though. He's a great singer, and he's been at his best these last few weeks.

My guess is that it will be a David C vs. Jason Castro finale, just because they will most likely get the most votes in these next upcoming weeks. I think it should be a David C vs. Syesha finale, but we can pretty much rule Syesha out from winning. I like David A, but I just think David C and Syesha are overall better singers.
Jason Castro will obviously get all the 12 and younger votes these next few weeks. They should make a rule that you have to be over the age of 12 and mature to vote-LOL

well Jason was actually in the bottom 2 this week in the voting from what i hear and Syesha wasnt actually in the bottom 2 (notice they NEVER told her she was in the bottom 2), so hes not getting that many votes. i think David Archuleta is getting the tween votes, not Jason. i think the producers/judges are going to do everything they can to get Jason Castro out this week, since if Syesha makes the final 3 with the Davids, she wouldn't stand a chance in beating one of them out and ruining the David/David finale.
if Jason makes the finale over David Archuleta, i swear i will never watch this show again. and i am not kidding. that would be absolutely ridiculous. i want David in the finale but i can TAKE it if Syesha makes it over him because at least shes...erm, good.

I dont wnat to THINK about that
JulieSomoski 05-05-2008, 04:25 PM Seriously, if Jason did make the finale, this show would lose more viewers than ever.
