I have a very bad neck, and my doctor wants me to give acupuncture a try. It scares me a little, all those needs, THOSE NEEDLES, lol. Has anyone tried this, and if so, has your experience been positive or negative?

Well, after a few acupuncture treatments the pain was completely gone and has stayed away. And according to her it didn't hurt at all (they stuck them everywhere to) and was very relaxing. It may be worth a try for you. catlover79 05-02-2008, 06:05 PM Good luck Janice - I too have a huge fear of needles. Last year I had to have a blood test taken and made the mistake of looking down at my arm during the test. I almost fainted.  Max Whittaker 05-02-2008, 06:14 PM There are a lot of other medical practices that make me more nervous than acupuncture does. It's commendable that you have a doctor that recognizes at least some form of alternative medicine. Has anyone tried this, and if so, has your experience been positive or negative? I've had acupuncture treatments before for certain conditions and I could tell you it's awesome!!! I have learned from experience that the best acupuncturists have had their training in China. If you have a Chinese community near the area where you live that would be your best bet. I've read that those needles are very tiny, so you don't feel them as much as the needles used for a blood test, for example. Remember, there is also "acupressure," done without needles. I don't know how effective it is. I have been considering acupuncture, too. I have some pain in my lower back 2-3 times/year. It flares up for a few days then goes away and comes back. InspectorExstead 05-02-2008, 10:47 PM I've read that those needles are very tiny, so you don't feel them as much as the needles used for a blood test, for example. i've read and heard that as well. last year i worked at a coffee shop & had constant back pain. one of our regulars who came in everyday was a chiropracter who i would talk to about my back. he mentioned i should look into acupuncture and that it would not hurt at all & would help to relieve the pain. my back problems went away so i never got acupuncture. but one of my friends has had it done & she said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be. definitely did not hurt as much as she had imagined. she just relaxed and it went smoothly & she has no more pain. good luck if you do get acupuncture. i hope it helps to completely erase the pain in your neck. Mr. Television 05-02-2008, 11:04 PM I wish you all the luck in the world Janice. Hopefully this will help you. I don't know anything about it but I'm not crazy about needles either. I get nervous when they just take my blood. lol Brieannas21 05-03-2008, 12:39 AM My mom has had laser acupuncture (which is needle less) and the regular. She has said that sometime you feel a pinch especially if the needle doesn't go in right the first time. But overall she said that it's not bad and it helps, especially the laser acupuncture. And my mom is deathly afraid of needles. catlover79 05-03-2008, 01:54 AM I wish you all the luck in the world Janice. Hopefully this will help you.
