View Full Version : Celebrity fan mail question
waichingliu81 05-02-2008, 06:26 AM has anybody on here ever sent fan mail to their favourite star or celebrity and did they write back to you? because i am about to send off a letter and some drawings to michael urie who plays marc st james in ugly betty (the clue, just in case you don't know who on earth i am talking about, is in my avator ;) ). it's the first time i've ever done this. i guess i will have to be patient because it takes while for a response to come through. another factor is that i live in london, and his address is based in the US
tv star collector 05-02-2008, 08:16 AM I've received several "autographed" photos (actually stamped autographs) from TV stars in the mail (in response to fan letters) since the 1960s; and I
also received a form letter from Valerie Bertinelli in the 1980s ... but never a
personal response from a celebrity. They have secretaries to handle their
fan mail. Most stars are just too busy to answer the volume of mail that they
receive. But it might be worth a shot; maybe you will receive some kind of
reply (but I wouldn't count on a direct reply from a star). Today you need to
include a self-addressed stamped envelope (which wasn't necessary back in
the sixties or eighties).

thanks :) but not only that, because i live in the uk and i am sending mail to the US, i also have to include international reply coupons, which i put inside the envelope and NOT on it. that way, when someone at the post office handles the mail in america, they'd use it to purchase american stamps
HuntingtonM15 05-02-2008, 02:45 PM I write to celebrities all the time for autographs, but rarely do I receive a handwritten response. It occasionally does happen, though. I'm actually about to send off to Laura Linney and Taylor Swift today.
InspectorExstead 05-02-2008, 04:21 PM i used to collect celebrity autographs a couple of years ago. i wrote to a lot of people, and most of them weren't pre-printed autographs. so that was sweet. good luck! just be patient. :)

thanks :) . i guess these things take time, although i have read from some people that they never got a reply from a celeb they wrote to. but anyhow, if it happens then well, that is always a great feeling to get something back from someone you either look up to, admire, or fancy in the public eye
BensonFan 05-04-2008, 11:00 PM I sent a SASE to David Hyde Pierce directed to the set of "Frasier" and I got an autographed 8x10 photo in the mail a couple of months later. Some celebrities are pretty good about it and others not so good. Sometimes you just have to take your chances and see if you get a positive result.
PlayOn 05-05-2008, 12:34 AM I'm thinking of send a letter to the President and First Lady, asking for their John Hancock. Maybe even Carrie Underwood and Third Day as well. That would be awesome. The only signed photo I have is of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney my mamaw bought for me years ago. I lost it. :(

Just to let you know so you don't waste any stamps, Carrie stopped signing through the mail around mid-2006.

She probably got swamped with requests. There's actually not too many singers who do sign through the mail.

i probably know why they don't. altho, i'm sure carrie doesn't care about it and think your spot-on about why she stopped: money. people just care about $$$$.
LuLu Rogers 05-05-2008, 01:41 AM I've been thinking of sending one to Wayne Rogers to get his autograph. I've sent one to Joyce DeWitt and she sent back two signed pictures and a letter, she's a real sweet lady. :)
