Jim Hager, who found national fame with twin brother Jon on Hee Haw, died Thursday afternoon (May 1) in Nashville of an apparent heart attack. He was 66. The Hager twins' boyish, clean-cut good looks helped make them a favorite among Hee Haw viewers from the show's first episode in 1969 until the duo left the TV series in 1988. Raised in a Chicago suburb, the Hagers were adopted by a minister and his wife.

While in high school, the brothers regularly performed on a Saturday morning music show for teens on WGN-TV/Chicago. After serving in the Army, they moved to the Los Angeles area, where they played in clubs and eventually landed a job performing at the Disneyland theme park. Buck Owens attended one of their Disneyland shows and signed them to a management, recording and booking contract shortly thereafter.

They spent several years opening shows for Owens, who also co-hosted Hee Haw. The Hagers signed to Capitol Records in 1969 and charted five country singles. Jim Hager reportedly visited his brother's house Thursday afternoon to discuss plans for them to travel to Florida to visit their stepmother. After leaving his brother's house, Jim Hager went to a coffeehouse in the 12th Avenue South shopping and restaurant district and collapsed in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Not only from Hee Haw, I also remember them from the early seasons of Florence Henderson's "Country Kitchen" cooking series on the old TNN.

Yeah, I remember that show of Florence's.

I also remember when my cousin would spend the night at my house and watch Hee Haw, we would disagree as to who the cuter twin was. I chose Jim, she chose the other twin. Duh!!! We were 8 years old.

Looking at them back then, Jim seemed to have a rounder face. We were silly young girls, for some reason, we seemed to think they somehow looked different. I am sure they must have, sometimes twins have a little difference in looks.

Did you and your cousin ever sneak a peek at their Playgirl spread?
Yes, the net allows you to find out stuff you never wanted to find out, but alas, you find out! ;)

OMG... No they didn't. Don't tell me they did a Playgirl spread?

Mind you, we were 8 years old at the time. My crush for Jim quickly passed.

"And this too shall pass..."

it is surprising to find out how many well known guys in the early '70s did pose for them (not necessarily full frontal).

But back to the Hagers--awhile back I rented some old Hee Haw episodes, that I had never seen before (mind you i was a tot then). Their singing was quite good.

They sang very well. I remember some channel aired Hee Haw reruns, I don't know if they still do. I enjoyed watching those episodes.

CMT last year was running select episodes, but CMT seems to pull further and further away from being what it was meant to be (that's another rant!)

OH yes, I have noticed how much CMT has totally turned away from their original programming. Good topic for a thread. ;)

So I guess the reruns of HH are no longer airing. :(

I remember watching HH on Sundays when I was younger. I have no idea what the appeal was to me since I was young. I guess the funny stuff is what kept me watching.

I remember seeing that when it first aired in 1976. I was only 12 at the time and don't recall much about it other than the fact that the Hager twins were the stars. I went to IMDb for more info and was quite surprised to learn that several Twilight Zone stars were in the movie including David White from Bewitched, Michael Constantine from Room 222 and a few others.
