Got a notification that after June (or something like that) AVG 7.5 will no longer be updated and that users should upgrade to AVG 8.0, which of course, they want $54.99 for.....this sux! If I can't find decent free anti-virus software, I don't know what I'll do. :(

they may or may not be offering a free version in the future, we will have to see.

in the meantime, you could try out:

avast! (http://www.asw.cz/eng/avast_4_home.html)

Antivir (http://www.free-av.com/)

or try the online free scans at Panda (http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/) or TrendMicro (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) - just be aware that the online ones do not give you constant protection, you must run them manually.

well, AVG actually DOES have a new free personal edition, which you can download from here:

thanks robyrob!:) that was sneaky of them not to mention this :nonono:

I see this version will discontinue e-mail scanning after 30 days, but that's fine because my ISP already does this before it delivers the e-mail to my inbox.

ok, just tried to download this twice and twice, it says it has corrupt files......ARRGH!

for some reasons, downloads from download.com are not going through...is there any other place to download from? I know there is one, but can't think of the name right now

In my opinion, NOD32 is superior anyway. It's well worth the subscription fee.

I tried more than one software download at download.com--they all did the same thing to me--aborted themselves. So i managed to dl Antivir at a different site and that worked. So I'm gonna give that one a shot in the meantime.

Thanks Neon for the advice, but right now, I can't afford anything extra.

I get free McAfee virus protection since I have AOL. Only $9.99 a month, so I can't complain too much.

Well, I tried again.....it worked and I'm back with AVG! :D

I think the anti-spyware is a 30 day trial as part of it. I'll see if I like it enough to buy it.
