Semi-regulars/guest stars like Dick Van Dyke and Herb Edelman were given good lines and counted for quite a bit in this show when they were on. As good as (especially) Rue and Bea were it was smarter not to give the four lady regulars all the good lines and scenes as these talented guest stars (plus superstar Burt Reynolds and even John Fiedler) helped make the show enjoyable too!

They still had great lines, as I think Bea, Rue, and Estelle did Improv alot (made up their own lines) at times which made it even better.

Good call. Didn't Hal Linden (Barney Miller) guest on GG at some point?

Yes, Hal Linden guest-starred as Dorothy's high school boyfriend whom (she thought) stood her up for the prom. Then he told her he did in fact show up for their date and Sophia told him he looked like a bum and sent him away.

Jerry Orbach also had at least two appearances as a married teacher Dorothy fell in love with.

I actually think he only guested once. I'm pretty sure a different actor played the character the first time.

Thanks for clarifying - I read that Mr. Linden's BM co-star, Steve Landesberg, also appeared on GG. I didn't know Jerry Orbach was on GG until now - LOVED him!!

You're right! Alex Rocco played Glen O'Brien the first time. Jerry Orbach played Glen the second time.

Yeah. Steve Landesberg played Dr. Halperin, the psychiatrist who got Stan to transfer his feelings for Dorothy to a fake monkey. And he was dating the neurotic neighbor, Carol.

"You know, for years Daddy has been telling me to see a psychiatrist. Then it dawned on me he meant socially!"

Yeah, Halperin was hilarious. The episode when stan, dorothy, and sophia were in his office trying to make sophia tell stan she loves him was a good one.

"Great, my next patient, Mr. Im afraid of the dark." Hit the lights on your way out will ya"?

I stand by my original posting and I add Vito Scotti to the list of good guests. Scotti was on Gilligan's Island as the doctor who switched the castaways's' minds and bodies!

Even though Sonny Bono only appeared in one eppy, Sonny (and Cher) were mentioned more than once!

I felt Mr. Bono (soon a Congressman!) slightly too miscast to put down as a great guest--he was just in a dream sequence if I remember right anyway!

Yeah, it was a recurring dream that Blanche had - George had faked his death and came back, meanwhile Dorothy couldn't choose between Sonny Bono and Lyle Waggoner. That was one of the most hilarious episodes, one of my favorites!!
