"I've been a Conservative since age three, I think.
I was never really afraid to speak my mind.
But I do remember many times on a set when
I would hear my Liberal friends talking and I did not speak out.
I stepped back and did not comment.
Because there is a STIGMA (in Hollywood) that
if you TALK (as a Conservative or Republican), you DON'T WORK."

- SCOTT BAIO: REAGAN REPUBLICAN by Ann Marie Murrell, The Reagan Report: May 5, 2011

Scott Baio's legendary showbiz career began in kiddie commercials during the early 1970s.
(A really cute and mischievous little tyke he was!)
His first big break came in Alan Parker's gangster-musical "Bugsy Malone" (1976)
where he played the title character opposite a very young Jodie Foster.
(Today, it's a cult movie with a devoted following.)
Both of them would later act together again in Adrian Lyne's "Foxes" (1980).

For nearly three decades, Scott Baio consummately maintained his television stardom
while many of his fellow teen idol rivals predictably vanished into obscurity after just a few years.
From the short-lived "Blansky's Beauties" and "Who's Watching The Kids?" in the late 1970s
to the long-running classic "Happy Days" and the cult family sitcom "CHARLES-IN-CHARGE" in the 1980s.

Moreover, Scott garnered two EMMY nominations for his excellent performances
in "Stoned" (1980-1981) and "All The Kids Do It" (1984-1985).
He also won two Young Artists Prizes during the Third Annual Youth In Film Awards (1980-1981)
as Best Young Actor In A Television Special for "Stoned" and
Best Young Comedian In Television Or Motion Pictures for "Happy Days".

But when he finally left the mystery series "Diagnosis Murder" in the middle of the 1990s,
the political atmosphere in Hollywood was already negatively changing
to the tragic detriment of many Republican stars and artists like him.
Both the entertainment industry and community were unexpectedly
turning very sharply to the Hard Left in terms of politics.
Vice-President Dan Quayle attacked "Murphy Brown" and consequently enraged
the powerful Tinseltown liberals who united in demolishing his political career.
Afterwards, the controversial impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton
due to his own perverse Monica Lewinsky scandal further ignited the toxic hostility of
Leftwing celebrities versus anything Republican or Conservative,
EVEN TO THE POINT OF HARMFULLY PERSECUTING THEIR INNOCENT NON-LIBERAL FELLOW ARTISTS WITHIN THE INDUSTRY.

RIGHT-OF-CENTER actors and actresses, tragically lacking any box-office clout for their own necessary protection,
had to quietly endure PROFESSIONAL STAGNANCY AND SETBACKS during these lean and miserable years.
Circumstances got so bad that the Hollywood Congress of Republicans and other Conservative industry organizations
had to be established as much needed shelters or havens safely away from this disturbingly antagonistic outer work environment.

"Donovan Weir (one of the founders and a former vice-president of the Hollywood Congress of Republicans),
told of another star who went from doing prominent TV roles to working behind the camera.
He said the fellow wouldn't go on a local conservative radio talk show because he didn't want 'to piss anybody off',
meaning he was afraid that publicly revealing his political beliefs might damage his career."

- "TALES FROM THE LEFT COAST: True Stories Of Hollywood Stars And Their Outrageous Politics" by James Hirsen, Crown Forum: 2003, p. 165.

Fans initially sensed the IMPENDING DANGERS threatening Scott Baio's prolific showbiz career
within a politically-biased article on Hollywood politics in GEORGE magazine,
the brainchild of Democrat prince charming the late JFK, jr.
During the middle of the 1990s, the writer not only STIGMATIZED poor Scott as a young Republican
but also MALICIOUSLY contrasted him to the cast of "Friends" who all reportedly voted for the Democratic Party.
The resulting NEGATIVE IMPLICATIONS of such an obvious HATCHET JOB were CRUEL, UNFAIR and FATAL to his showbiz career.
(Truth be told, Mr. Baio cheerfully admitted to his right-of-center politics during a celebrity interview in the late 1980s,
an era when it was still safe to be an open Hollywood Republican.
How times quickly changed for Scott and other unfortunate victims of "THE GRAY LIST".)

Said DAMAGING article was merely the literal tip of the iceberg.
After the issue came out, Scott Baio's once flourishing showbiz career underwent A TERRIBLE DRY SPELL.
The REPUBLICAN PARTY-HATING POWERBROKERS of the industry VICIOUSLY SLAMMED THEIR DOORS to him.
But on the other hand, those very same HYPOCRITES continued to EMPLOY
unrepentant DRUG ADDICTS, SUBSTANCE ABUSERS and SEX OFFENDERS.
(Charlie Sheen, Rob Lowe, Christian Slater, Robert Downey Jr. and many others.)

Some years afterwards, GEORGE magazine finally went out of business.
Personally, I must sadly confess that I cannot help but still feel
the tragic plane crash years later was somehow PARTIAL COSMIC RETRIBUTION
for the HORRIBLE INJUSTICE committed against poor Scott.
I honestly know that it may be wrong to think this way,
but perhaps certain rules of KARMA simply won't be denied.

Anyway, Scott Baio was facing a MAJOR CRISIS IN HIS PROFESSIONAL SHOWBIZ CAREER at the end of the 1990s.
He made rare guest appearances ("Full House", "Touched By An Angel", "Buffy The Vampire Slayer")
and a few interesting TV movies ("Face Value", "Danielle Steel's Mixed Blessings").
He sought a prime-time return to the familiar sitcom genre ("Rewind") but his valiant efforts were unsuccessful.
During this problematic era, Scott kept himself busy with directorial assignments on various TV shows.
He also signed up with Thirty Second Films, a known production firm where he directed numerous commercials.

Unfortunately, all of his genuine hard work tragically led to zero in the Democratic Party-worshiping New Hollywood
where he continues to suffer MISTREATMENT as a CELEBRITY OUTCAST
like so many Republican-voting artists, craftsmen and workers in Tinseltown.

"My only firsthand experience with ACTUAL BLACKLISTING occurred while casting a film in 2007.
We auditioned A WELL KNOWN CONSERVATIVE TV STAR and he nailed the part.
All of the producers, myself included, were inclined to hire him on the spot. His audition was that good.
Immediately after he left the room, we began discussing our feelings.
THE DIRECTOR then looked at us straight in the eyes and SAID,
'ISN'T HE ONE OF THEM RIGHT-WINGERS?' My producing partner then said, 'Yes.'
The director replied, 'WELL, I DON'T WANT ANY OF THEM RIGHT-WINGERS IN MY MOVIE.'
That was simply the end of it. THE ACTOR WAS NO LONGER CONSIDERED.
However, prior to our leaving the room, I looked at the director and told him/her:
'Just be careful, there may be one of those right-wingers in the room talking with you right now.'
Needless to say, we did not get along for the rest of the shoot
even though we spent a lot of time together over the next six months."

- "ARE CONSERVATIVES REALLY BLACKLISTED?" by Frank DeMartini, ADFTD@hollywoodrepublican.net : June 8, 2011

Now when we previously left our hero in a cliffhanger of sorts, SCOTT BAIO was at AN IMPORTANT CROSSROAD after the "Rewind" fiasco.
MAINSTREAM HOLLYWOOD controlled by VIRULENT ANTI-REPUBLICAN POWER BROKERS spitefully EXCLUDED HIM FROM NUMEROUS ACTING JOBS.
His malicious enemies would love nothing better than to see him ultimately discarded as a forgotten teen idol has-been
jettisoned among the pitiful ranks of grotesque ex-child stars. Awaiting him would be a pathetic celebrity life quagmire full of
materialistic excesses, artistic burnout, addiction rehab counseling, tabloid notoriety, humiliating guest appearances in junk reality shows,
and a tragic desperation to win back vanished fame.

But instead, SCOTT BAIO made a very fateful decision about HIS THWARTED SHOWBIZ CAREER.
Rather than listlessly waiting for the industry's vultures to finish picking through the debris of his eclipsed stardom,
the guy BRAVELY ABANDONED THE COMFORTABLE MILIEU OF TINSELTOWN and
RISKILY VENTURED INTO THE UNFAMILIAR LANDSCAPE OF INDEPENDENT CINEMA.
It was quite A DARING MOVE, certainly not in keeping with left-wing Hollywood's plot
to render him an obsolete fixture of the entertainment community.

His various independent features and television films during this period included:
"MIXED BLESSINGS" with Gabrielle Carteris, Bruce Greenwood and Bess Armstrong.
"DETONATOR" with Charlene Tilton, Shannon Bruce and Don Stroud.
"BAR HOPPING" with Tom Arnold, Nicole Sullivan and John Henson.
"DUMB LUCK" with Tracy Nelson, Hal Linden and Eileen Brennan.
'FACE VALUE" with James Wilder, Krista Allen and Michael Dorn.

However, three of his independent movies have become worthy of closer inspection:
"VERY MEAN MEN", "FACE TO FACE" and "THE BREAD, MY SWEET".

"Trouble is, Gino's son Paulie - played in a career-reviving turn
by SCOTT BAIO ( who is also an associate producer of this film )
with hair dyed blonde and sporting a white goatee -
is a hothead who hands the Irish clan some moolah
but then stiffs Paddy's waitress daughter (Leigh-Allen Baker)
when his crew has a lousy lunch at Mulroney's diner."
( Variety Review of "VERY MEAN MEN" by Ken Eisner dated June 19, 2000 )

The start of the new millenium proved to be a highly auspicious development for SCOTT BAIO.
Together with his older brother Steven, he co-produced "VERY MEAN MEN",
a gangster comedy involving a mob war between two syndicate families.
The ensemble cast was headed by Matthew Modine, Martin Landau,
Ben Gazzara, Burt Young and Louise Fletcher.
SCOTT himself enacted the pivotal role of impetuous crime scion PAULIE MINETTI
who unwittingly instigates the crime feud by refusing to tip a waitress.
The movie also collected a Best Editing Prize at the Seattle International Film Festival.

"Director Ellie Kanner makes her feature film debut
with this rollicking story of fathers and sons.
SCOTT BAIO makes a welcome return to the screen
as RICHIE, the affable ringleader who proves the perfect foil
to both Thomas Calabro's wisecracking Phil and
Carlo Imperato's chronically negative Al."
( Taos Talking Picture Festival review )

"Director Ellie Kanner brings SCOTT BAIO's script to life.
Yeah, I know what your're thinking, Scott - frickin' - Baio.
Funny thing is this father/son comedy is touching
and Baio's damn good as the lead."
( Chris Gore, The Top 10 Independent Films Without Distribution, FILM THREAT )

Next arrived "FACE TO FACE" (a.k.a. "ITALIAN TIES"),
a bittersweet comic drama wherein three young men
(SCOTT BAIO, Thomas Calabro and Carlo Imperato)
have to kidnap their emotionally dysfunctional fathers
(Dean Stockwell, Alex Rocco and Joe Viterelli)
for a camping weekend of genuine male bonding.

The original screenplay had been written by SCOTT and Jeffrey Gurian,
from a story authored by him, co-star Imperato and Adam Ferrara.
(When asked by reporters during a press conference
if any of the movie's elder characters were based on his own dad Mario,
SCOTT deadpanningly responded, "No, he was a lot meaner.")

This personal movie was selected by Film Threat ( filmthreat.com/gorey details )
as one of the top ten independent pictures lacking a distribution deal.
Nevertheless, it stilll won three top prizes:
The Audience Award For Best Comedy at The 2001 Marco Island Film Festival,
The Silver Screen Award at The 2001 Reno Film Festival, and
The 10 Degrees Hotter Best Feature Prize at The 2002 Valley Film Festival.

"SCOTT BAIO, best known as Chachi from TV's 'Happy Days',
is wonderful as DOMINIC, the bakery owner who's stretched
dangerously thin with a corporate day job.
Overall, 'THE BREAD, MY SWEET' rises to the occasion
and warms the heart while whetting the appetite.
Moreover, it reminds us that BAIO, who was terrific
in 'Bugsy Malone' and 'Foxes' before being helplessly
typecast by 'Happy Days', belongs on the big screen.
In his touching scenes with Kristen Minter and especially
Rosemary Prinz's immigrant mother, he exhibits a rugged charm
that so far has eluded the likes of Tom Cruise and Ben Affleck."
( Glenn Lovell, The San Jose Mercury News )

The most valuable jewel within SCOTT BAIO's crown of
independent film accomplishments has to be
"THE BREAD, MY SWEET" ( later given the new title
"A WEDDING FOR BELLA" when the film was released on DVD ).

Directed by Melissa Martin and produced by Adrienne Wehr,
this gentle romance starred SCOTT BAIO as DOMINIC PYZOLA
who is both a hard-edged corporate raider in the daytime
and a kind-hearted pastry chef at night.
He earned three (3) Best Lead Actor Prizes at
the Atlantic City International Film Festival,
the Kansas City Halfway To Hollywood Film Festival
and the San Diego International Film Festival.

This little cinematic gem also received multiple top accolades from
the Santa Monica, Stony Brook, Marco Island, Houston Worldfest
and Iowa Hardacre International Film Festivals.
It generated excellent notices in various American cities.
Critical opinion has been mainly favorable,
unanimously praising SCOTT BAIO in the lead role.
Once again, Film Threat chose this movie as
one of the year's ten best motion pictures
deserving of further public attention.

SCOTT BAIO IN "THE BREAD, MY SWEET"

"In the lead role, SCOTT BAIO is a revelation.
The veteran star of 'Happy Days' and 'Charles In Charge'
has grown into a fine actor, anchoring 'THE BREAD, MY SWEET'
with a terrific performance."
( Ed Johnson-Ott, Nuvo.net )

"Former sitcom veteran SCOTT BAIO is terrific in this role.
He shifts effortlessly between manipulative and sincere,
especially when pitching his idea for the marriage to Lucca."
( John Niccum, Lawrence.com )

"And in an image-changing turn, former kid star
SCOTT BAIO delivers a terrific assured performance.
It's the biggest surprise in a sweet movie."

"All the acting is good, especially SCOTT BAIO
who looks and plays to perfection the role of

( Michael Wilmington, Chicago Metromix )

"I cannot stress enough what a great performance
SCOTT BAIO gives. He was perfect for the role and
no big name actor could have done it any better.
His charisma is vital to making Lucca and Dominic's
relationship develop in a realistic and moving way."

SCOTT BAIO IN "THE BREAD, MY SWEET"

"Park the 'Charles In Charge' wisecracks at the door
because SCOTT BAIO is the best thing going for
THE BREAD, MY SWEET. Director Melissa Martin gets
a solid performance out of Baio."
( John Monaghan, The Detroit Free Press )

"Perhaps the biggest surprise, to those who know only his string of sitcoms,
will be SCOTT BAIO. He delivers a mature, grounded performance
and is wholly believable as a guy trying to figure out
how he may have screwed up what's most important in life."
( Bill O'Driscoll, The Pittsburgh City Paper )

"Realistic dialogue and convincing performances,
especially by Rosemary Prinz and SCOTT BAIO,
give THE BREAD, MY SWEET it's soul.
The film is at it's most powerful in tight quarters
when, for example, Baio's Dominic asks Massimo
for Lucca's hand in marriage. Baio looks away,
nervous but almost expressionless, during
the conversation which is stripped of
any affectation or Hollywood dressing up."
( Jonathan Curiel, The San Francisco Chronicle )

SCOTT BAIO IN "THE BREAD, MY SWEET"

"SCOTT BAIO still looks younger than his forty two years
but he's outgrown Chachi and has a warm, mature screen presence."
( Jim Lane, Sacramento News and Reviews )

"SCOTT BAIO, whose role as television's Chachi
has forever doomed him to trivia-game-answer status,
delivers a highly effective and restrained performance as
Dominic Pyzola, a young Italian-American who divides his working time
between serving as a ruthless acquisitions executive for a big corporation
and baking biscotti in the family bakery that he also manages."
( Frank Scheck, Panorama Entertainment and The Hollywood Reporter )

"SCOTT BAIO, still best known for his fresh-faced adolescent stint on 'Happy Days',
gives an impressively soulful, genuinely romantic and, for lack of a better word,
masculine performance - one that should persuade the industry to take another look at him."
( James Verniere, The Boston Herald )
