View Full Version : R.I.P My Tennis Shoes
dawsongirl 04-23-2008, 09:27 PM Back in 1992 I bought this pair of Guess Tennis Shoes in Kansas City for like 60-some dollars (a large sum for back then). I needed tennis shoes for Junior High gym class (I went to JH that year...7th grade) and I was all into Guess back then.
Well today, at almost 16 years old...my shoes died. :( I went to take the right one off and the heel separated from the upper part. I don't think they'll glue back together because there is all this insulation-like stuff in there. I thought these shoes would last forever considering I was still wearing them into adulthood. And most of my shoes don't last nearly that long. :rip:
Anyone else have a long-lasting pair of shoes?

I usually wear my sneakers until they rip, and even then I'll wear them until they just can't be used anymore.

Why not try to get them fixed? Take them to a shoe repair place and see if they can fix it.
Dutabi84 04-23-2008, 10:49 PM Wow. My shoes are tattered piles of torn cloth, worn rubber, and pure nasty stink after 2, 3 years tops.
PZelda 04-23-2008, 11:16 PM I, too, have a pair of shoes from 7th grade (going to be 11 years ago this fall- actually got them 10 years ago). But I don't have them here at the moment.
This is my next oldest pair of shoes that I own. I got them at Kmart in the summer of 2000, just before I started 10th grade. I didn't wear them too much in high school because I didn't like the way they felt... but then after HS, I started wearing them a LOT. Mainly for yardwork (you can see green stains from mowing the lawn... ha). These days, I don't wear them with any nice outfits when I go out. I might wear them to go run errands... but mainly I wear them out to my balcony or to take out the garbage because they're so damn beat up on the inside.

Ediiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! I just remembered I have a picture from when I met Dutabi84 two years ago, where I'm wearing my oldest shoes... actually sandals. This pic is from May of 2006. My sandals were 8 years old by then.

Same here.
Sucks about the shoes, I'd be sad if that happened after so long too. Especially since mine never last. :(

Zoneboy 04-24-2008, 12:06 PM May their soles :rip:
Max Whittaker 04-24-2008, 12:29 PM If they are in decent shape, they can be re-soled.
Hollow 04-24-2008, 02:00 PM May their soles :rip:
:rip:, indeed.
Courtnee 04-24-2008, 04:12 PM Wow. Time for new shoes.
dawsongirl 04-24-2008, 08:47 PM I don't know if this is fixable or not.
Zoneboy 04-24-2008, 08:49 PM ^Looks like spongecake.

PZelda 04-24-2008, 08:57 PM Yep, definitely toast. :(
And dang! These are fabulous-looking (almost) 16-year-old shoes! How often did you wear them?

Not so much in my 20s, but a lot in the 90s. I have a pair of Nikes that I use more for exercise, so these became my outdoor/it's okay if they get dirty shoes.
I don't know if this is fixable or not.
Hmmm.
Time to pull the plug.
;)

They are in pretty good shape. It's only the soles that need to be replaced. If you were willing to invest money in them, they'd have new life. A good shoe hospital would revive that with no problem.
If I were you, I'd not trash them.
*InThisMoment* 04-28-2008, 05:39 AM I was one year old in '92. That really puts stuff into prospective. Those musta been some hardcore shoes you had there. Knowing me I'd probably keep them around just for nostalgia sake, even if I couldn't wear 'em anymore. :grady:

Yeah, I probably will. I mean, does Guess even make tennis shoes anymore??

It looks like they still do. (http://shop.guess.com/Search.aspx?page=LIST&free_text=shoes&CMP=KNC-reprisegoogle2008&HBX_PK=guess%20shoes&HBX_OU=50&category%7C1598=Women's%20Shoes&category|1604=Athletic)
But now they're, lyk, trendy. n stuff.

Some of those shoes don't exactly look athletic to me.

I know... I don't get why they have "athletic" high heels on there. But, uh, at least SOME of them are ACTUALLY athletic?
